This is my second year going to the vikasa expo at this community center. This is a large community center with basketball courts, meeting rooms and a pool. For such a large facility there is very little parking. During vikasa a lot of people parked in the grass along the street. I got there early and got to park in the lot. They turned the gym into the main area for exhibitors, the gym is big with equipment for basketball and volleyball. There are several meeting rooms that were used for lectures. The kitchen was used for food demonstrations and tastings. The facility is clean and allows for multiple uses of the space.

It has been a while since I went to the community center, but this weekend I took full advantage of the pool. This is a really nice city pool. It is very clean and well kept for an outdoor pool. The life guard is actually on duty, not playing on a cell phone or chatting with friends. The people are nice and if you live in the City Beautiful, Open Swim is free. FREE, I said! Adult Fitness is $ 3.20 per visit, and there are monthly, 6 month and yearly memberships available. $ 100 for the year, not too bad. What you’re buying is a pool set up for laps, with no kids playing and splashing around. The times are subject to change, but currently it’s 10am-12pm Sat&Sun, 9am-1pm and 7pm-9pm Mon-Fri. Pretty sweet. Holy crap what a workout! I am loving it though. You can’t find a better spot to beat the heat!

The Dover Shores Community Center is a place where you can take free English classes, get free computer classes, and, best of all, take free aerobic classes. Woot! The Good: Plenty of Stuff: In addition to the computer use and classes, you can also play basketball work out in the gym, or go swimming. Of course not everything is free, but it certainly is a lot cheaper than joining a big gym. SPARK program: Dover Shores is one of the locations for Orange County’s low-cost after school program. If you haven’t heard of it, it is definitely worth checking out as it will help cut your daycare costs in half. Seriously! The Bad: It’s a little hard to find out about their programs without actually going right there. So unless you are *actually* planning to enroll in a Dover Shores program, it’s not really worth checking out. Dover Shores is a great community center with an awesome fitness center and free classes. Oh, and they have a mini golf course. Joy! Overall 8.1/10= Community Center Cool.
