You have got to stop by and visit this place if you are at all close on your travels. It is the best. Awesome fresh cooked food, insane beer selection, super friendly folks workings there, and a fantastic atmosphere. Among all their great food, my family especially likes to stop by in the morning for their baked goods and breakfast sandwiches. Try it you will love it.

This place reminds you what has been lost by the proliferation of convenience stores. The Orland Market is about as friendly and as comfortable as a place as you’ll find, with an assortment of everyday Maine essentials like coffee, milk, bait, beer and bbq sauce. But the market’s owner also serves up tasty pastries, smoked ribs and good pizza. Who thought buying a gallon of milk could be so pleasant?

I’ll admit that I didn’t ask the right questions. Like, «what is your name?» and«are you the owner?», but the gal that was working at this store was just about the hardest working person I’ve seen. She cooked everything that was served – from scratch – and there was a huge selection. The menu included all kinds of sandwiches and pizzas as well as «chop suey:(which, I’m told is sort of like goulash), meatloaf and ribs. And it was all in the back of a little roadside store. My friend ordered the smoked ribs which were flavorful and tender. The proprietor was friendly and well liked by the locals and treated my friend and I very well. I ordered the«cheeseburger sub» which I loved. basically she made a cheeseburger and put it on a sub roll, but she chopped up the beef patty in big chunks, so it was actually easier to eat. We had sides of homemade potato salad and homemade macaroni salad. We ate outside on a little picnic table on a beautiful summer afternoon. Doesn’t get much better than that. I wish I knew the name of our little worker bee. I wish I knew the story of the Orland Market, but I don’t. I highly recommend this place if you’re ever on this road, which chances are, you won’t be. If you do, find out her name.

I have to write a review about the Orland Market and General Store even if no one ever reads it. I grew up in Maine about a ¼ mile from the store and would frequent it on my bike with friends to buy penny candy.(Penny candy! They don’t sell candy for a penny anymore.) It’s been bought out by some new owners about 3 or 4 years ago sadly, and the previous owner now works at Wal-Mart I think. Anyway, it has ok pizza, lots of candy and over-priced supermarket food. I’m partial to it because it’s in a very small town(2,000 people) and I grew up with it. It’s a small store in an old farmhouse, so it’s kinda cool and traditional. Check it out sometime if you are ever traveling through backwoods Maine.
