We adopted our son using Heartsent. We had interviewed several agencies and selected Heartsent because they were so personable and helpful. As this was our first child, we were looking for an agency that would patiently walk us through the necessary steps and answer all of our questions. We got that and more. Everything about our experience was excellent. Not only was the process clearly explained but we also got a very organized binder that allowed us to collect the necessary paperwork and other documentation required. In addition, we took classes offered by the agency that prepared us for the unknown from caring for a baby in a foreign country before you head home to fostering attachment. We are so grateful that we chose Heartsent, our experience was a beautiful one and we highly recommend them to other prospective families.

I adopted a child through Heartsent this past year. I adopted my first child through another agency. The other agency was so much better! Heartsent is expensive for what they provide and very impersonal. They are competent at processing the mountain of paperwork related to an adoption. But that’s it. They offer limited emotional support and no advocacy that I saw. Their«education» is just an online course offered by another company. Would advise against Heartsent for a first time adoption or an anxious family. But Heartsent would be fine for families who are clear about the journey and have a strong support network in place.

My wife & I are looking into adoption for the first time. We heard the Heartsent radio commercial and went to their 2 hr orientation and was told there would be a couple who adopted and a adoption lawyer. To my sad sad sad surprise the couple was 2 homosexuals, I was expecting a 1 man 1 woman married couple. I was pretty disgusted, and thought there has to be an agenda with this company they also promote single parent adoptions, a child needs both, a mommy and daddy. The legal aspects with the lawyer was informative somewhat, even though I was seething.

I adopted my baby girl from China 6 years ago and this agency made the process logistically and emotionally so smooth. If you’ve thought about adopting internationally please call Heartsent and ask to make an appointment with Val Free. They make the experience a pleasure rather than a stressful experience so that as an expectant parent you are able to enjoy the prospect of your new arrival. They have offices in Orinda, Sacramento and Pasadena.

Wonderful organization; very helpful every step of the way. One flaw which did not affect the adoption process — only noticed this afterwards: if you don’t adopt from Asia, you are not welcomed into their family of adoptees. Great that the Director has such a love of Asian children, but sad that she does not embrace or have a love for the children adopted from other parts of the world. Would have received five stars if not for that.
