This used to be THE place for a great Philly Steak & Cheese sandwich. I have gone there many times over the past couple of decades. Unfortunately, it appears they have recently(12⁄15) changed their meat recipe. It comes pre-seasoned now – way, way overdone on both salt and pepper. Those two spices overpower all other flavors. I could not eat my sandwich and returned it for another without salt. Cook said they could«wash» the meat to remove some of the spices before cooking. I had them do it, and the second sandwich was much better, like the ones I remember previously, and still had enough spice. Fast service, a dive, reasonably priced.

I took a trip to Philly last month, and was blown away by the Cheesesteaks there. Ever since, I have been on a quest to find something similar here in Utah. So far, this has been the closest I have found to the real deal. Very good, very big sandwiches, at a pretty reasonable cost. My only complaint, was that the meat was slightly dry — but when it’s smothered in Provolone and Cream cheese, who really cares. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place, especially to you cheesesteak purists.

As much as I loved the food, I loved the setup. It’s like surfers not wanting to tell you about a great surf spot… it’s good but it’s also on the DL. I had the steak everything monster… prefect. I’ll be back and back some more… I’m holding back on the 5th star until I eat more of its food, but yeah for Orem eats… top 3.

So… it seems like quality is going down. Bread is still great. My problem is the meat. I’m picky with meet. They need to make sure meat is chopped well. Need to make sure bone and other weirdness are not in meat. Turnover seems high. Wish they would clean this place up. Still good(sometimes) but they need to step it up.

My husband has eaten here several times, and I’ve been here twice. It’s delicious. I’m not sure why it’s called«The Italian Place,» because Philly cheesesteak sandwiches are their specialty. Based on the atmosphere of this restaurant, I expected very little, and the setting is what’s keeping them from getting five stars. The place smells like a dirty flat-top grill – and trust me, I know that smell from working at a diner! The interior is grungy, the tables a little sticky, and the décor desperately needs to be re-vamped(think Kitchen Nightmares). I think I’ll be getting takeout in the future, because it’s depressing in there. HOWEVER, the cheesesteaks are great. They use, as far as I can tell, a higher quality provolone than you’d expect, which gives the sandwich a chewiness that’s hard to find in cheesesteaks. The flavor is excellent, the onions perfectly cooked, the bread exactly the type I associate with a cheesesteak sandwich. My husband likes the cheesesteak with pastrami on it – the Thor – and I like the plain cheesesteak with onions only and a side of banana peppers. Service is young and a little clueless, but polite, quick, and great at making sandwiches. I’ll definitely keep picking up food here despite the décor.

Quick on the service and the food quality is better than I expected. I especially recommend the«Italian Delight». Can’t go wrong with the the salads either. Cheers!

Hot, delicious sandwich. Seriously, I’m not even much of a sandwich person, but the bread was soft and the sandwich was hot and really tasty. Not very many people in the restaurant at all, but it tastes a lot better than it looks on the outside.

I too have been eating Steak & Everythings w/Cream Cheese for over 40 years and it’s still amazing every time!!! I remember the days the original owner used to come by each night south of BYU campus in his Detomaso Pantera and leave it idling outside. What a great time and so many incredible memories of the Italian Place. Nobody, I mean nobody makes a sandwich like these guys. Both this and the Lindon location are just as good. Don’t wait, go right now and try a Steak & Everything right now! You’ll be coming back at least for the next 40 years.

The steak and cheese is amazing, the only one around that we’ll eat — 5 stars. This is a family favorite! The place is a dive — 2 stars, it reminds me of a few grinder places in Boston. Due to the yumminess of the food, we don’t care. I love the tomatoes, onions, loads of cheese, meat, pepper, and the bun is amazing! This place has been around for as long as I can remember. We used to go there for lunch when I was in high school and it was down on University Ave. in Provo. Thumbs up for sure!

I’ve only been here a couple of times, but have loved it each time! This place is a hidden gem. Their sandwiches have unique combinations of flavors(for example, the Italian Delight, which is delicious, has steak, cream cheese, marinara sauce, mushrooms, mustard, pickles, and tomatoes). Quickly becoming a favorite!

Delicious and filling. I have been here a couple times now and crave it all the time. They give you plenty of meat and is affordable. I like the monster size Zeus and Philly and everything. I do t like the name of the place though because there is nothing Italian about this place.

My family has been coming to the Italian place for years and years and years. Conveniently located on state street next to radio shack, Italian place is one of the best steak and cheese sandwiches you can get in the state. Choose from a standard steak and cheese to a steak and everything, piled high with your favorite peppers mushrooms etc. The bread they use here is what keeps me coming back. Soft and always fresh. They add just the right amount of pepper to the meat to leave a soft kick of spice after every bite. Loaded with cheese, it melts in between the steak leaving every single bite a good one. Prices are more than fair considering how much steak you get in a sandwich. I usually go with the full steak and cheese. Get a half if you aren’t too hungry, and get a monster size if you want to save some for later. The staff is friendly, and they always cook your steak fresh to order. Your food will always be hot and delicious. Come here for one of the best cheese steak sandwiches around. You won’t regret it!

When you’re looking for somewhere different with strong flavor, Italian place is the best option around here. They are nestled on State Street so its easy to miss if you’re not looking for them. I only eat here once in a while but they never disappoint.

I was in the mood for a burger, but this place was closer and after driving by it repeatedly over the past few months, I finally stopped in. So, here we have a sandwich shop called«The Italian Place» with one arguably Italian sandwich and no salami, no soppressata, no Parma ham and no fresh mozz. Based solely on that, despite the low, quasi-romantic lighting, this place fails instantly as an Italian joint. Instead, there’s a bunch of hot subs like Philly cheesesteak and ham & cheese and the one I tried, the Pastrami. Hey, give me a good pastrami sandwich(harder to find than you think) and I will forgive all of that and that’s exactly what they did. The Pastrami was fairly lean, flavors were on point and they used ground mustard along with the melted Provolone. I had to take it on the run, but no worries there as the sandwich was clean enough that I could eat it on the road without wearing it. It wasn’t too long and I wasn’t missing the burger anymore and was thinking that I had finally found a lunch spot in Utah County, which has gone unrepresented to this point. The menu is a bit light as far as offerings, but it does have both Coke Zero and Diet Dr. Pepper on the fountain, so good there. It also looked pretty clean overall. I wouldn’t hesitate to pick something up for the road, but I’m not sure I’d really want to eat there, despite the double tvs. Definitely will be trying more of their offerings in the future, though. They make a pretty mean sandwich.

I finally went here for the first time the other day… and had a steak salad. I know, I know! Don’t hate. The salad was really good, though. It was like a sandwich except on a delightful bed of lettuce. I’m not sure it was healthier than the sandwich, but I’ll pretend it was. I also had a bite of a turkey sandwich, and it was pretty damn good. I’m sure the steak sandwiches are equally delicious. The prices are quite reasonable, and the food came out quickly. I’m not sure why they call it The Italian Place, though.

My standard steak sandwich place. Mushrooms, cream cheese and provolone cheese – kind of bad but tastes so good. We usually call ahead.

Good food. Greasy as all get out, but what do you expect from a cheese steak place. Yes, it’s a dive. Yes, it’s fattening food. Yes, it’s a pretty simple menu. But the flavors are there, the authenticity is there, the sincere love of food from the owners is there, and the food is definitely good enough to make a return trip for(the right amount of seasoning, tender«steak,» lots of veggie). You shouldn’t be disappointed.

I have to come here on every trip to Provo. This rating is for the only sandwich I get. The Italian Delight – steak, cream cheese, marinara sauce, mushrooms, mustard, mayo, pickles & tomatoes, all thrown together on the griddle until they meld into one indistinguishable mash of greatness. This last time I thought I loved it so much that I got the«monster», but should’ve gotten the«full». Dine-in is only for those who like the«dive» feel.
