Loved this place. They had everything I needed and their service is great. I had my son with me and they offered to help me bring my bags to my car. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an Asian market around the area.

We were craving Asian food(and needed water), so figured we’d stop by and get some groceries. Limited options(and… they don’t sell water??), but it was nice to grab a couple packages of noodles, some vegetables, and make food at our room, rather than go out.

We don’t have much in Asian markets in the area. We have a pretty good Indian and excellent Mexican, but the Asian ones have not inspired confidence. Chao’s is a gem. Unless I need an ingredient I can’t find here, this is my new regular place. It’s been on the list to get to for quite a while, but it’s kind of hidden and easy to forget about. Make the effort. They also have Tim Tams. It’s an Australian cookie I learned about on a business trip to Sydney. It’s a deadly good treat.

Mr. and Mrs. Chao have long since retired but Ernie, the new owner, is just as friendly and helpful. Love that it’s in Orem instead of it’s old Provo location because it means it’s closer to home. Ernie keeps the store well stocked and is constantly bringing in new products to try. I’m just a big fan of the place.

Went to check it out today. The place was really hidden and was smaller than I imagined but it’s two minutes from my house with very reasonable prices and a decent selection of items so I can’t complain. The owner was surprisingly nice and offered a few suggestions. Will be coming back again

i love love love chao’s. this was my asian market all through college, and i have still been going since i moved back to utah. the guy owner is super nice, and i’m pretty sure he knows how to say«pretty girl» in every asian language. i know, because i have a lot of different asian friends who have gone there with me and have heard him say it in their language. the wife(i’m assuming it’s his wife) is sweet too. she loves my daughter and gives her lollipops when we go in. the store is small, but the selection is great. it’s in a good location, even though there is not parking always right in front. i mean, it’s provo – not a major metro. so there is parking always close by. also, the prices are right even for a student budget. so, go!

Four stars because I am happy that there’s a store that sells Asian foods. I was craving dumplings! It’s really tiny… definitely no 99 Ranch Market, but they had what I needed. I agree, the owners are great, and the store takes credit cards(which I didn’t expect based on another non-yelp review). I’ll definitely be back!

Chao’s is a hidden grocery gem. The owners are very pleasant and kind, and they carry a wide variety of Asian and other foods at very good prices. In the back they also have a small but good assortment of fresh vegetables as well as a well-stocked freezer of fish, squid, etc. And loads of different kinds of noodles. Ask Mrs. Chao for what you’re looking for. Ask her for cooking advice – she’s a great cook herself.
