Scratchtown is another awesome addition to the brewery scene in Western Nebraska. It is located in Ord which is about an hour North East from Kinkaider in Broken Bow. So if you’re visiting one, it’s definitely worth the trip to visit the other. The vibes are completely different and a nice contrast to one another. While Kinkaider is more scenic and relaxing(think winery), Scratchtown has a vibrant downtown feel to it even if the town itself has just 2,000 residents. It wasn’t something that I expected to find in Ord, NE. After surveying the place, i noticed that the patio was packed and just one or two tables remained inside. No worries, my wife and I took a seat at the bar and reviewed the beer list from the chalkboard above the bar. The bartender pointed out that the selection changes frequently and could feature all different beers the next week. The limited selection leads me to believe that they currently operate on a fairly small scale and is still in the process of ramping up its operation. While I didn’t see it on the menu, the bartender let us order a flight of all six beers for just $ 6. It’s hard to beat that. I enjoyed all of the beers but three stood out as favorites for me. They include ‘Ol 59 Smoked Porter, the Alpham Ale Wheat IPA, and I Don’t Get It Honey Blonde Ale. There was one that I didn’t particulary enjoy, Sandhills Gold Bohemian Blonde Ale, however, my wife did so it just comes down to preference. After checking this place out, I have no doubt that they will expand their operation and more widely distribute their beers if that is a goal.
