I recently purchased my first gun through SoCal Firearms and everything went great. James was helpful and very patient with me. He also had the lowest price in town for the shotgun I purchased. A Cerakoting service is available on-​site too. Thanks to this store, there are going to be A LOT of dead ducks and dead geese in my freezer later this year.
** Details **
I recently purchased through SoCal Firearms a new Mossberg 930 (water-​fowling model). The out-​the-​door cost for this shotgun was $ 585 ($ 490 gun, $ 30 ship, $ 25 DROS, $ 40 tax = $ 585 total).
The owner, James, is a kind and helpful man. James’ store is a hole-​in-​the-​wall shop that previously focused on selling to the military and police, but in recent months has begun selling to the public as well. He keeps very little inventory on-​site. To meet with the store operators, you must schedule an appointment; walk-​ins are generally not allowed.
To purchase a firearm, you must first place your order online through SoCal Firearms’ web-​store «socalffl​.com» and specify SoCal Firearms as the receiving FFL. When your gun arrives at SoCal Firearms, you are notified by E-​mail to come on in to verify that the gun is indeed what you purchased, to fill out the usual paperwork, and to pay your background-​check fees. Your ten-​day wait now begins. Assuming you pass your background check, you’ll then schedule another appointment to pick up your gun. You then fill out your «after purchase» paperwork (no fees this time) and are then on your way home. If any part of this process makes you uncomfortable, you’re welcome to meet with James at his shop and ask him any questions you might have.
The only reason why this is a 4-​star review and not a 5-​star review is because the SoCal Firearms web-​store is a little difficult to navigate by price. You’re allowed to search SoCal Firearm’s inventory by firearm type, manufacturer type, and firearm caliber, but not by price. For a broke person like me, it can be very disheartening to have to scroll through several pages of firearms out of your price-​range before you find one that you can afford. Other than this small complaint, everything was great.
