I love love love this place. My stylist is Jennifer and she ALWAYS does an excellent job. Everyone in the salon, from the receptionist to the other stylists, are super sweet and nice.

After looking for a salon home for more Han five years, I think I’ve finally found one… This place is amazing! The staff is friendly and knowledgable, and they offer, for sale, a good selection of products that are great for your hair. I love the fact that appointments always begin at the scheduled time, and are finished in a timely manner. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and full of laughter and interesting conversation(and great music!). Since gong to the salon my dull hair has improved tremendously. What was once dry and brittle now feels and looks moisturized, shiny, and health. My cut, where all my dead ends where clipped and the hair shaped to better suit my face, is flawless and looks great anyway I style it… even in a plain blowout! I love the variety of style options, services, and products available and I especially like the gentle way they take care of my natural hair. Perk #1 Meko and staff also offer water and/or tea and an assortment of granola bars if you need a little snack while getting your hair done. Perk #2 The staff is absolutely delightful! They are friendly and professional and really go out of your way to make you feel welcome. They seem to genuinely love what they do. Perk #3 Very accessible in Northern Nj and no issues with parking! Perk # 4 Pricing is reasonable and fair – they treat your hair like it is their own and do not rush their services!

I have been to this salon about 4 times. I do not know of any other strictly natural salons in my area so when I heard they first opened I was ecstatic. I drove almost an hour to go. The first experience I went in for a «steam treatment». The stylist was unfamiliar with the steam unit and the hood fell off while I was under it with hot steam beaming out of it. Granted the staff was friendly worked very gentle and I left with my hair feeling amazing. Only con is that they blow your hair out each time which I’m sure is not that great for your hair. The second time I went, I asked for a trim and flat iron. My stylist was new girl and didn’t know how to trim so the owner did it for her. The stylist then«flat ironed» my hair and it looked like a blow out. The owner told her to do it again. «Double heat» and it still wasn’t straight. Totally dissatisfied 150 dollars later. The last few times I went, the staff changed very frequently. I always had a new face work on my hair. Which is not a problem, but says alot about a business. I finally decided I may not return after I was told that they DO take walk-ins, however I was turned away after I had driven almost an hour and only wanted a deep condition. Granted I did not have an appt BUT there were 0 clients in the shop when I walked in at 10am(their exact opening time). The stylist walked away from me and said they were booked for the day and the receptionist didn’t even offer to make me an appointment! I tried contacting the owner several times and NEVER got a returned call or she always wasn’t there when I called. I found that very unprofessional and horrible for a prospering business to turn away money. Doubt I’ll ever return.

I’m writing this review because I actually like this NJ salon. I’m a native New Yorker living in New Jersey and I have been looking for a natural hair salon in New Jersey. First thing I notice when I looked around, no price list posted(hmmm…ok?). My first experience was great. my assigned stylist Jennifer was EXCELLENT! She was professional, knowledgable and totally into hair care for Naturalistas. My second experience not so much. Prior to scheduling my second appointment, I was again asked a series of questions by the receptionist(who by the way is very courteous) about the style I wanted. When I showed up, I was assigned a stylist who specialized in braids. When I sat in the stylist chair, I showed her my photo — the style was simple, shoulder length box braids with square parts… Everything went down hill from there. Could have been a bad day for her(don’t know — No need to share additional negative details) but whatever the case, $ 250 later I walked out the salon with braids but nothing that I asked for… very dissatisfied. As it stands right now, I give this salon 3-stars because it has the feel of a new business that needs improvement. Jennifer would be the only reason for my return.

Great first experience! Everyone is professional and downright lovely. I was attended to by multiple people to ensure that I was not sitting idle and there appeared to be a nice cohesion of energy in the spot. I was given details of every single step of the process; what products were being used/why my hair was being blown out before the cut… everything! That made me feel very comfortable even though I am no stranger to natural hair care.(Naturalista for 7 years tomorrow, Oct 1, 2014) They used tea tree oil to stimulate and massage my scalp before shampooing(I struggled to stay awake during the relaxing process) and they use Jane Carter products to condition and style…(Which I have tried before and love.) Child, they even offered me bottled water and a snack! «Don’t threaten me with a good time!» Lol I sat under the dryer for a little to let my new incredibly short cut set and had amazing small talk with a fellow Naturalista who ended up with a smokin’ hot flat twist out! All in all, a I had to give them 5 stars, because it was seriously a perfect visit. And they’re right down the street from the train station! #ImDone lmao

I’ve been there twice, and had good experiences. I like the salon, it’s spacious and clean. The staff is courteous and they’ve offered me bottled water and a little snack which is a nice added touch. They sell accessories too, so you can pick up an nice pair of earrings to rock with your fresh ‘do. I can tell they strive to be efficient and respect their customer’s time which is great! They have policies in place to reduce the traditional long wait times, they don’t have kids running around the shop and other annoyances that would make the experience less than spa-like. My hair looked great and my styles really lasted. They use quality products. The prices were not cheap, but good natural hair care never is. So why only three stars? They don’t have enough operators to keep up with the demand, hence the wait is too long to book an apointment an evening or Saturday appointment. If you work during the day like I do, you may have challenges with scheduling. Also they have a lot of special events(product demonstrations, listening parties, open houses etc…) which I think is great, but I just want my hair done. If I can’t get an evening or weekend appointment within three weeks from calling… I’m just saying… Your mileage may vary.
