Laurie Ann’s Piano School

I had numerous piano teachers while growing up and all them were very strict, unfriendly and altogether unpleasant to have as instructors. It wasn’t quite like the movie Whiplash — but, to this day, I still have nightmares about metronomes. Fortunately for my 7 year old, there is no Mr. Fletcher in his life. Instead, he is getting an incredible (and enjoyable!) music education from Laurie Ann.
We started him in a group class about 15 months ago, which is an excellent way for a child to be introduced to the piano. Laurie’s group classes are fun, educational, and she is great with groups of young kids. We switched to private lessons after the group class ended and have been doing that for about a year. My son can now easily read music, pick up new pieces very quickly, and is learning a great deal about music theory. He loves learning new music and playing his favorite songs (Star Wars and Angry Birds theme songs tend to be the background music at my home). He’s been in two piano recitals so far and, thanks to Laurie Ann’s instruction, he played wonderfully in both. If you ever want to be impressed by children playing rather complex pieces, check out one of Laurie Ann’s recitals — kids of all ages are playing the piano beautifully and clearly enjoying it.
Other than (gently) pushing her students to nurture and expand their musical abilities, Laurie Ann is a lovely person and friendly instructor who makes learning music a pleasure. She teaches guitar and drums as well and I have no doubt that she is equally wonderful with those instruments.

I can’t believe people haven’t written about this wonderful woman! I stumbled upon Laurie Ann 5 years ago on some music site and it was literally love at first sight! She really is hands on and isn’t about just making $. I’m so glad I found her, she inspires me to tackle harder pieces that I would have never thought I could learn ! She makes learning piano fun! She also teaches drums & guitar :) I love my private lessons because I’m stingy and don’t want to share her with anyone! Perfect for little kiddies and even their parents to learn ! :D
