I’m giving the Chapman University Gym 2 stars overall, but if you’re looking to do cardio or legs it would be 3/3.5 stars First, the gym has a pretty ridiculous policy of sleeves for everyone. Let me repeat that– all men and women in this gym have to wear sleeves. I’m not trying to put on a gun show while I gym, but nitpicking like that is a bit odd. The gym has a decent amount of cardio equipment, handful of treadmills and ellipticals. The machines they have are a bit dated and there aren’t enough of them to go around. They’ve got a decent squat rack and leg machines tho, hence the higher rating for leg day. There’s also a track right next to the building where you can get a run in after the subpar gym session. In the end it gets the second star overall for convenience. It’s located in the heart of campus and that definitely is a plus for a busy student. I’d recommend hitting up a local 24 if you have the time

I’m spoiled. As a UCI alumni, I was treated to a 4-year membership at the glorious Anteater Recreation Center(ARC). Naturally, my expectations of a typical«fitness center» were a bit unrealistic. I’ve calibrated my expectations by exercising here and at 24-Hour Fitness. With that said, The Julia Argyros Fitness Center is ADEQUATE. Nothing more, nothing less. First, this place is small. The website claims that it’s 4,000 square feet. Sounds like a huge area of space, right? Wrong. Fortunately, Chapman has a much smaller student body relative to other universities, so overcrowding is not an issue. Perhaps this accounts for its cleanliness and well-maintained equipment. What are the main amenities? Glad you asked! –Ellipticals(4 – 5) –Stationary Bikes(5 – 6) –Treadmills(4 – 5) –Free weights(various) –Squat Rack(1) –Assisted Squat Rack(1) –Leg Press Machine(1) –Lat Pulldown Machine(s)(2) –Thigh Crunch Machine(1) –Leg Curl Machine(1) –Leg Extension Machine(1) –Ab Crunch Machine(1) –Incline Bench(1) –Flat Bench(1) –Bicep Curl Machine(1) –Pull-Up Machine(1) I might be missing a few items, but this is a fairly comprehensive list. Personally, I prefer to work out at 24-Hour Fitness if my schedule permits. However, this fitness center is suitable for cardio or leg day. There are no lockers, but this facility has cubbies for storage. Also, SLEEVELESS shirts are NOTALLOWED. I really don’t understand this policy. The fitness center’s hours can be a bit erratic depending on the time of year. Make sure to check the online schedule before you go. To check in, simply write your name and student ID on the sign-in sheet. The front desk staff never checks ID’s.
