Great sushi, cheesecake, drinks and live music. What more could you ask for in a downtown place.

This is a great nightspot which explains why you’ll find me here a few nights a week. Mike Patterson does a great job with the Sushi and some incredible cheesecake creations. Music through the week is pretty eclectic with Jazz on Tuesday and a variety of things on Friday and Saturday Night. Tiffany, bartender and truly the Person in Charge has become a great friend over the past several years. If you haven’t been, you should certainly check it out. They are open Tuesday thru Saturday from 5PM Central until…

My husband and I always love visiting here and enjoy Mike’s sushi and caramel white Russians. Great place to come and unwind when we can get a babysitter.

Waited for our food for an hour before we walked out. We ordered immediately after we sat down. I ordered some miso and had to ask for it after 30 minutes of waiting. When we walked out, the chef was still not working on any sushi. There was live music, but it was obnoxious and uncoordinated.

This is an excellent quite little spot. It has an interesting mix of a relaxed live music lounge along with good sushi and excellent service. the bartender(Tiffany) is super nice and great once you get to know her, and Mike makes excellent sushi. There are several good rolls that are not on the menu, or if you ask nicely he can whip up something good for you. the music is not too loud and the crowd mellow so you can actually have a conversation.

Eighth & Rail is a lovely little lounge in downtown Opelika that deserves way more attention than it does. Don’t let any of the pictures fool you because the interior is well-furnished and decorated with colorful clean sofas that has fortunately not seen many bottoms. I’m not really sure what Eighth & Rail tries to be but it oddly works. It’s a lounge in Opelika that plays jazzy music, catering to an older clientele. They have cheesecake deserts in the front and their menu consists of sushi made by a sweet non-Japanese chef. I ordered the volcano roll and it was made surprisingly well. The chef and I had a nice conversation about the different types of Japanese foods, the delivery of fresh fish, and how the textures were a delicate balance in sushi.

Finally a chill bar with aesthetic! Its on the smaller end but that kinda adds to the warmth of the place. Perfect for an after dinner drink if you don’t want the large crowds or super loud music in most auburn bars. They sometimes have live laid-back music as well. The drink prices are about average.

This is a very interesting place. It’s part café, part bar, part music lounge. It was a shock to find a place like this in Opelika. I wish I had discovered it sooner. Inside the place has a great ambiance. It’s kinda edgy with a country feel to it. If that makes any sense. I liked it a lot. There is plenty of room inside to get comfortable. You don’t feel crowded out like other bars. Big plus for me is that there is no smoking inside. What sets this place apart for me is the service everyone was the bartenders to the one cocktail waitress were attentive and I never had an issue ordering more of anything. They were always there when my cup was empty. Start with the café part: The cakes are fresh and excellent. They do not bake their own but from what I understand they buy in from both New York and local bakeries. Don’t expect to get a Starbucks style coffee here. They have alcoholic style coffee drinks or black coffee. But their plain black coffee was much much better than I expected. It was great black coffee and the Tuxedo cake we had was chocolaty and moist. Now for the bar part: Good selection of alcohol and a good variety of Top shelf. I found the drinks were well made and generous. Entertainment: They frequently have live bands perform. I believe they are all local bands. Nothing hardcore but you can relax, have a drink, cake or whatever and listen to live music. Doesn’t really matter what kind to me. It is just laid back.
