I grew up in Opelika so this place is home for me! Best BBQ, chipped pork sandwich has always been my favorite. The sauce is a mustard based sauce and unlike any other, IMO. Love Chuck’s. I go there still when I am home, and this TX girl misses it so much!

Mathew 23:12 «Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted» They have a bible scripture on their sign and I’m adding another one! This is a humble, down to earth, hometown feeling, knock it out of the park, awesome bbq joint. Deserves to be exalted! I almost didn’t come here for totally shallow reasons, looks! But man am I glad we didn’t know any better and walked in anyways. It wasn’t full, we even thought it was closed. But the locals that drip in slowly but continuously know better. We just moved out here from pretentious, haughty Miami(I still love you though), googled something nearby and hesitantly came due to lack of reviews. But it’s a small town anyways! The bbq was delicious we tried 3 sides– beans, slaw and potato salad– one word, YUM! We also got the recently added to the menu fries, and I’d come back just for those alone! We had the ribs, the chipped and the chopped on the block pork. We recommend ALL of the above! And the service was pleasantly friendly and helpful. Keep it up Chuck!

Really wanted to like this place. Stopped in on way through town to try it. Pork was tough, slaw was ok, stew was ok. Sorry guys.

Love that you can SEE the pit where the bbque is cooked. Daily specials but I always love the BOGO chipped sandwich special on Saturdays.

Had the chopped pork sandwich. I’ve eaten their«chipped» product before so I kinda new what to expect tastewise. The meat was overcooked and dry. So much so that even the copious amounts of mustard based sauce couldn’t disguise this fact. I’m not a fan of the mustard/vinegar sauce but without it, it would have been hard to get through the meat; in fact the sopping wet bun may have been the best part.

Good food, fast service. I was pleased with everything at this place, nothing to complain about. I just feel that for the same price, Mike & Ed’s gives more food that is a bit better quality.

Going home from Destin stopped at Chuck’s because of a recommendation. 4 minutes off I75. Got the chipped pork, chips, medium drink lunch special – $ 4.99. It’s 12:30 and the place was packed! Pork was served on a hamburger bun with coleslaw, pickles and sauce. Sauce was good! Not too sweet and not too much. I’m surprised there aren’t lots of positive reviews. People are probably too busy eating! Highly recommend!

Bar-B-Puke. Bad, even by Alabama standards. I’ve had BBQ all over the country, and this is by far the worst. Texas, Memphis, and Carolina, this is not.

Go on Saturday to take advantage of the BOGO chipped sandwiches. The service here is great. Really fast and friendly. Prices are the lowest I’ve found in the Auburn/Opelika area for BBQ, but the quality of the sandwiches does not suffer.

Shared the rib plate with a side of brunswick stew and slaw and the BOGO chipped pork sandwiches(Saturday Special) with the wife. The ribs were okay, but a tad dry. Everything else was fairly standard. Nothing too crazy. Not sure if it’s worth the drive from Auburn.

The service was friendly and the recommendations for the third-pound of chipped BBQ pork were helpful. The interior of the restaurant was musty giving this restaurant an authentic BBQ joint in the middle of the South. I wish there more options on the side menu but I was happy with my stew. All of the food I ordered here was not only rich in delicious BBQ flavor but texture. I had a third pound of chipped BBQ pork.

I’m going to say the four star rating is slightly generous. The meats are done fairly well here they just need to work on the sauce. I have had mustard based sauces before that seemed to do more for the meat while this one made everything messier more than it gave it flavor. But other than that I enjoyed the stop and they move their line of hungry customers very well.

I grew up with this style of BBQ so I am biased — this is very good central Alabama BBQ. Simple but always perfectly prepared. Give the Brunswick Stew a try, served as it traditionally should be, with sliced white bread and dill pickle slices. One can and should certainly debate the varieties and qualities of all the regional BBQs but for this region, this is one of the best that I have enjoyed. Well done.

Ate here today. Actually, I have eaten here about 2 times per a month for the past 17 years. Clean, consistent, affordable & yummy. The menu had about tripled in size in the past 2 months. I get the chipped sandwich and potato chips. The hot sauce is great — mustard based. Give it a try…

Best BBQ sandwich ever. I check out BBQ restaurant’s wherever I go and this is the best BBQ sandwich I have ever had. Get it chipped on the block all the way(pickles and their special slaw) the way the locals do. Ask for a large. It’s a not on the menu secret.

I like the attitude in this place. This is Alabama BBQ for sure. Auburn kinfolk make the drive for the chipped sandwich and the Brunswick stew on a weekly basis. I was a fan of the sauce and wouldn’t be against going back. Oh yea, the price is mos definitely right!

Everything happens for a reason… Meeting runs an hour late in Auburn — which means flight out of Atlanta is missed and now there is actually time for a meal. Pit-stop at Wendy’s, but a huge thunderstorm knocks out electric, so no food there. About 30 minutes east of Auburn is the Opelika exit and lo and behold, a Wendy’s sign, but alas its a bait-and-switch and once you get off the exit a sign tells you that Wendy’s is 1.6 miles down the road, but guess what… before you get there, you come to Chuck’s Bar-B-Que. A mostly brick building with almost no windows and a large chimney out the back and in Opelika Alabama — one answer — check it out! The inside of the restaurant is basic. The menu is basic. Everything is basic… that means the focus here is on meat. There is a small variety of product, including chicken and ribs, but its obvious the priority is pork and it comes in two forms — chipped and chopped. Chipped is shredded and in the sauce and chopped is as it sounds, chopped and then sauce dolloped on over the top. I had chopped and it was great. I found a pdf interview with the owner on the web: Chuck is a guy who takes his bar-b-que seriously. Like I said — everything happens for a reason. I love bar-b-que and respect the art. Did I come to Chuck’s through luck… or fate… Everything happens for a reason. 5 stars because its real good and because we must protect and encourage those independent contractors who are bold enough to create their own brand, unique product and great eats — and not just decide to buy a Wendy’s franchise.
