Worth the side trip! House was moved due to lake but still impressive. Plan on making sure you go the memorial if only doing one. This stop takes about 20 minutes but the view for a family picnic could be longer.

Breathtakingly beautiful and so much fun. We stopped here during a recent trip to visit family in the area and I’m so glad we did! It’s definitely out of the way, but so worth it. Beautiful scenery for the adults, lots of animals for the kids. Everyone was happy! Plus, baby goats! I mean, do you need any other reason?

20 miles north of the Memorial for Will Rogers is the Birthplace Ranch. It’s waaaaay the heck out of the way of anything. You basically take back roads and long middle of no where roads to get to it. but when you get there? it’s absolutely beautiful. i had read about where will grew up, but had no idea how pretty it was. the house is on top of a hill overlooking lake oologah. the view is stunning. and to think– back in those days there weren’t boats or anything out there spinning around. it had be be gorgeous. still is, but even so. you can wander around here for free. there’s animals wandering around the grounds, like horses, goats, and birds. i just couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. i was there towards the end of the day, so i didn’t really lollygag around. the animals were heading in for the night, and i went through the house as quickly as possible without losing the chance to take a glimpse. they have the house set up like most historical buildings. it looks like it would have 100 years ago. pretty neat.
