I remember when, as a kid, going to Toys R Us was just about the awesomest thing in the world. There were rows upon rows of video games. You had to grab a ticket, pay for the game and then claim your prize from this glass enclosed area in the corner. Not really the most hands-on consumer experience, but when you could get your mom to drop $ 60 on Final Fantasy III for the SNES, who cares? Beyond the games, there were aisles upon aisles of every single toy imaginable. And I suppose it’s still like that for a lot of kids these days. But big box retailers aren’t what they used to be. Not only is the Toys R Us I once loved now gone(76th and Dodge), but the others have noticeably slimmed down their offerings in the face of the age of buy-it-now/free shipping online retailing. Still, you can go to Toys R Us to get the latest hot new video game. Plus they still stock all the trendiest toys, from Legos to amiibos to whatever else kids these days are into. As an adult, coming here can be a fun diversion to attempt to relive a slice of childhood bliss. It’s sad that trying to re-experience something from your past is never quite the same as you remember it. But you get those little glimpses of Saturday summer mornings and after school hangouts that make you keep trying. Oh, and Toys R Us is still a great place to buy toys for your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, etc.

Spoiling the grandkids at Toys R Us has become something of a ritual for us over the years. The prices are usually higher than those at WalMart, but the experience is half of the fun for the kids. The shelves are stocked with a great selection of items, everything is colorful and fun, and the staff is generally uniquely kid friendly and pleasant. This three star review reflects our most recent trip to this location. When we arrived, we were blocked from the entrance by a small row of stopped shopping carts– it was literally precluding us from access to the store. When I looked around for the reason, I saw a young lady standing at the back of these carts. She was so caught up in hiding out in the entryway, texting on her phone, that she had no idea we were standing there waiting to get in. I got her attention and she pushed the carts out of the way and smiled. After the children selected their toys, we went to the front checkout area. There was one lane open… and guess who was at the register. Again, this young lady was engrossed in texting. There was no one else in line, yet we still had to wait, because this employee had to finish her text and put her phone back in her pocket. The last time I was at this location, a young man at the register sold me a replacement guarantee on a children’s video game. He stated with 100% certainty that all we had to do was bring the broken game back to the store for replacement. On the way out the door, I double-checked this policy with the store manager, and the cashier was completely wrong. There is some mail in hassle that takes weeks with the guarantee. I was given my money back. I understand the need to text during times of emergency, maybe even at work. I also understand that TRU has a certain hiring pool of teenagers for part-time help, and most of them do a great job. HOWEVER, Toys R Us management: If customers are going to spend more money at your store than they do at other stores, you MUST have the added value of superior service and customer experience. If your employees are going to be as inept and out of touch with the needs of the client as the folks I mentioned, the customers will vote with their wallets and you will not be around much longer. We LOVE Toys R Us, that is why I still gave three stars, but you are down to one store in this city. Please get your act together so we, and others, still want to shop with you.

I have placed an online order for store pickup. The pick up process is a big joke. You need to check-in at the front kiosk and the pick up location is at the rear end in the store. There wont be anyone to ask questions or to assist you. You will have to wait indefinitely for someone to come and deliver you the item even if you are the only guy waiting for pick up.

a surprisingly nicer looking store than I expected… people seemed friendly and helpful… didn’t end up buying anything, but if I had to make the trip all the way out here, I wouldn’t be against it… still would be nice if there was a Toys R Us closer to downtown

Do yourself a favor and drive down to the Toys R Us on Dodge. The Oakview store is an unorganized, poorly staffed dump. We’ve tried to shop here a few times just because of location. We won’t make that mistake anymore.

I admit I walked out once after standing in line forever(30 min) but generally the employees are very nice and helpful.

Toys R Us and Babies R Us both seem yield the same experience for us. Terrible. Example, Babies R Us not helping my 8 month along pregnant Wife take a carseat(in the box) to the car. They were not busy. Corporate was called.
