Great steaks, you got to get the whiskey marinade! A bit old school but loved it. Great food and great service! I would definitely recommend!

I don’t have any swastika tattoos on my face, my breath is not(to my knowledge) bad, I’m polite, I don’t swear, I don’t smell, I don’t dress offensively. So I ask this, why the heck was the short haired cocktail waitress giving me the stink eye and the attitude to go with it? Having worked in the industry I understand fully how a bad experience with a server can ruin your experience, regardless of how good the food is. When I ask the cocktail waitress(not the server, different person) what a good local wine is, I expected a little more local knowledge than«I dunno, they’re all good, pick one.» Steak was excellent, server was fantastic. Cocktail waitress ruined the experience as the most notable things of the evening were her condescending glare, pretentious swagger and horrible attitude. I just feel sorry for the server because I bet he has to tip her out! Seriously though, you wanna charge high end prices, can the cocktail waitress and hire high end staff.

Classic bar and steak joint of days gone by. The total opposite of chain food. The décor is contemporary 1977. I ate at the bar with good service from the barman. Had the bone our house ribeye which was quite reasonable and very good. A full meal with a salad bar. What floored me was the Excellent selection of CA wines at reasonable prices. Lot’s of locals choose The Drover and you should too.

Highly recommend the whisky porterhouse. So much meat. Don’t judge. It was my birthday.

I was in town for business and everyone recommended that this was THE place to go for a great steak. The Drover did not disappoint. The restaurant was dimly lit which had an old time feel. The host and wait staff were nice courteous. I ordered the Whiskey ribeye with a fully loaded baked potato and their soup of the day, bean and ham. The Whiskey marinade is what they are known for and is available on several cuts. They also have a salad bar, but I just opted for the soup. The meal also comes with a warm loaf of bread. When my ribeye came, it was cooked to a perfect medium rare, just the way I liked it. The whiskey marinade made it very flavorful and tender. The baked potato came piping hot, topped with sour cream, bacon, butter and chives. The bean and ham soup was also good. Overall, a must visit if you ever find yourself in Omaha.

One of Omaha’s few old steak houses left. It was extremely popular back in the big days of Aksarben racing. It’s still very popular today. Reservations required during the typically busy eating out times unless you want a wait of undetermined length. The Drover has a nice little salad bar. People go there for the steaks, however. They serve a great grade of well-seasoned, nicely cooked meat. The outside of the building is pleasantly unassuming while the inside is old money nice — nothing gaudy, just special and comfort. I haven’t been here for awhile, but now I want to go next week for our 42nd anniversary!

More like 3.5 stars. Drover plates a really delicious steak. You can count on them to serve the real deal. Solid piece of beef, man. Yet, I toss my head from side to side. Thinking about the ambience. Thinking about the side dishes. Considering the beverages. Considering the service. Hmm. Well I do but I don’t love the musty 70s mood that bring me back to mom and dad’s old avocado green appliances and shag carpeting. Oh man. it is DARK in here. Not romantic… the ambiance is more retro mafia fabulous. I have to admit I got a bit claustrophobic wondering where the exit was in this hot brick maze. Hey, that’s the mystique about Drover I guess. Our steaks were amazing. Juicy. Tender. Huge. And Delicious. Seeping with flavor. Like a fine piece of meat should be. Service was rushed. I felt like herded cattle. Servers have to turn over tables on a Friday night.(perfect analagy at a steakhouse… am i right?!) Wine was meh. The side dishes are not impressive. Anyone can steam grocery broccoli. The salad bar is nostalgic. And that’s all… certainly overpriced for iceberg lettuce. But hey… that’s what you come here for. Enjoy the nostalgia. Kiss the plaque at the salad bar and salivate for the steak that comes out soon after.

We came to The Drover to celebrate our anniversary and were looking for a nice steak house. The Drover has the rustic cowboy feel to the interior. The place was steady on Friday night. We made a reservation which worked well. I ordered the whiskey steak with salad bar and baked potato. The salad bar had a decent selection and was just OK. Nothing to knock your socks off. Iceberg lettuce and the usual fixings. The whiskey steak was very good and had an excellent flavor. I would recommend the whiskey steaks. The baked potato was just a normal baked potato and was very good. The bread is an excellent addition to supper. The staff were very professional and courteous. I would have liked to have seen a good whiskey offering with a list. Cowboys love whiskey! They also didn’t have a very good beer selection.

My family and I came here on a Saturday night around 5:00pm– the day of the 2016 Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders meeting. We called ahead and were told the wait would be about an hour. We drove there anyway because I faintly remember someone recommending it in the past. The outside looked kind of shady and just like an average restaurant. When we got inside– omg it is soooo dark!!! That was my least favorite part about the restaurant! We put our names down for 4 people and were told it’d be about an hour wait. Luckily, there were a few tables open in the waiting room for us to sit in. There was a cocktail waitress going around taking drink orders. That was nice! We ended up waiting about 45 minutes before our names were called. :) We did have to wait quite a while until or steaks were don though(since they were super busy). Food orders: We got some kind of complimentary wheat bread– it was warm, soft, and pretty tasty. Three of us ordered a steak which came with the option of the salad bar or bowl of soup, and a side of fries, baked potato, or veggies. We opted for the salad bar. Like other reviewers stated, it is a very basic salad bar but don’t let that deter you! It was still very tasty! There was iceberg lettuce, red onions, black olives, green peppers, hard boiled eggs, beets, shredded cheese, seasonings, and various types of dressing. It was all cold but still good! My sister ordered the chicken sandwich– she didn’t say much about it but I think she just thought it was OK– she didn’t even finish it. :/I guess you shouldn’t order a chicken sandwich at a steakhouse! My dad and I got the whiskey sirloin steak cooked medium rare with fries(me) and a baked potato(him)($ 27 each). I normally get my steaks cooked medium but i heard medium rare was the way to go here. Some pieces were extremely chewy but overall it was very tender, juicy, and just delicious! The fries, however, I did not enjoy. They were absolutely tasteless. My husband got the whiskey marinated prime rib and a loaded baked potato($ 31). He said both were very good! He was unable to finish it so we had it for breakfast the next day too! ;) Overall we thought this place was an absolute great deal– only $ 30 for a tender, juicy, well portioned steak and you also get unlimited salad, a side, and free bread! The only downer is the dim lighting and the looooooong waits!

Fantastic restaurant with great atmosphere. My absolute favorite part about this fine establishment is the extremely cold plates on the salad bar. The prices have increased this year but the quality is still the same. Wonderful for special occasions.

Walking into The Drover you immediately feel comfortable and at home just by the smell alone. This is definitely a no frills steakhouse. If you are trying to be «fancy» and impress someone by surroundings alone, don’t go here. If however, you are trying to treat them to the best steak dinner of their lives then by all means, drive directly to The Drover and do not pass go. They are famous for their whiskey marinated steak and that is what I suggest you have. I had the filet, with fries and salad. They have a salad bar, which is small but very fresh. I don’t mind getting up to get my own salad as I can put what I like on it and make it the size I want. My steak was cooked perfectly and was so amazing! Their wine list is great also and very well priced. Service was on point, friendly and never intrusive. For a low key, casual steakhouse, this is my #1 choice in the city.

Husband and I enjoyed a lovely evening here on our first night in Omaha. We had a 30 min wait and were sat next to a great couple at the bar, friendly service and atmosphere all around. Waitstaff was great and we were served in great timing. Only reason it’s not 5-stars is just because even though the steak was great, it was just as great as other steaks, nothing too out of the ordinary. Just a good steak!

When I called to make reservations the girl answering the phone was quite rude about the whole process. I almost considered not going at all. The Drover needs to figure out who is answering phones in the afternoon and hates their job and replace that person. There was large number of people waiting to be seated who didn’t make reservations. So, I seriously suggest you do. Even on weeknights. Weeknight crowd is mostly businessmen. I ordered the Whiskey Ribeye. Tasty, but I didn’t really taste much of a flavor boost over a standard ribeye. I did think the salad bar seemed a little«low rent» for a place like this. I was also unimpressed with the fact that Iceberg lettuce was the only option. Complimentary bread was very good. Service was excellent. Very attentive and never waited for a refill. I really like the atmosphere here. The low ceilings make it very cozy.

I had heard the legend of the Omaha steak industry. Nowhere is it more realized than at, «The Drover.» Small and dimly lit, it offers the quintessential steak experience. They won’t apologize for a long wait, however they will offer you a seat at their very rustic, very well stocked bar, while you wait. There really isn’t any way to go wrong on the menu, but trust your bar staff to make a few off menu suggestions before you head to your table. Oh and if you’re hungry, their salad bar will have no problem satisfying you while you wait for your steak. I recommend the bone in ribeye. If you don’t see it on the menu, you’re not crazy. This one is made upon request. I normally eat my steaks medium but upon the suggestion of the house I had it made medium rare. Wise choice. Enjoy!

This is easily one of the best places in Omaha for a steak. It’s an old-school place with a casual feel. It’s got a dark atmosphere with western décor. Service is attentive and friendly, but it’s not an upscale place with upscale-type service. Either arrive right when they open or make reservations. The wine list is decent. There’s some good offerings by the glass. There’s several appetizer options. There’s numerous daily specials. With each steak, you automatically get soup or salad bar and a side(baked potato, fries, etc.). And, of course, there’s complimentary bread. The salad bar was scanty and lackluster. Had I realized, I probably would’ve opted for the soup instead. Choosing a steak was difficult. So many options! I finely settled on one of the daily specials, a bone-in NY strip. You can get your steak plain or whiskied, their specialty. Why would you do anything other than their special way with whiskey? The steak was delicious and cooked perfectly. The steaks are the star here by far. All in all, a good meal was had here. If you’re wanting a real Omaha steak, this is the place to come.

There are plenty of things that keep this from being a five star review, but the steak and staff make it an easy four star dining experience. The hostess was super nice. She happened to overhear me talking with my friends, mentioning I was having a glass of wine because it was my birthday. The end result was a delicious and complimentary cheesecake with a candle. Such a nice touch all done quietly and without drawing attention to the birthday boy. The salad bar was fresh. Cold pewter plates were a nice touch. Absolutely nothing extraordinary on the salad bar — it was very basic, but fresh, cold and tasty. The meal — I ordered the whiskey filet and veggies. The plate delivered was completely nondescript. A steak in one corner and the veggies spread oddly across the other. Better presentation could have elevated my review to five stars. I must say the plate as delivered was less than appetizing. Maybe this is why the restaurant is so very dim. But putting the presentation aside, the veggies were good… nicely cooked and delicately seasoned. And the star of the paste, the filet, was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I cook a mean steak at home, but I could not duplicate the flavor of this steak. The whiskey flavor was subtle, but the part I enjoyed the most was the flavorful char. This steak was top notch incredible in every way. The cheesecake was very tasty. The berry sauce was an excellent compliment. It was refreshing, not at all heavy like cheesecake can be. I don’t live in Omaha and I’ve not tried any of the other steakhouses. All I can say most definitively is the steak at The Drover is excellent.

It doesn’t get any better than this. Old school steakhouse with top of the line steaks. First impression when we walked in was«my Dad would have loved this place». Really dark interior with a western theme. Good sized bar and plenty of seating in the restaurant. We didn’t have a reservation, but were told that if we went early, there was a good chance we could get a seat. Luckily that was the case, but it filled up really fast. It was packed when we walked out an hour and a half later. I got the Whiskey Filet, butterflied(per the suggestion of the waitress based on how I wanted it cooked). It was PERFECT — one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. The whiskey marinade was soooooo good, I’m recreating that the next time we grill steaks at home. The filet was tender and practically melted in my mouth. Crap I am so full right now, but just thinking about it again has my mouth watering… They also have a small salad bar with iceberg lettuce(no healthy leafy green lettuce here) and typical accoutrements, so pretty basic, but it works. I also went all out and got a fully loaded baked potato(salad and potato came with my steak), and it too was delicious. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten a loaded potato, but I thought, what the hell, I’m at a steakhouse, I’m not skimping on my potato — give me the works. Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend a visit here.
