I skimmed some of the other reviews and I agree. Price is high at $ 9 for a full sandwich so I got the half sandwich at $ 5. I had the muffuletta. It wasn’t as good as the original at City Grocery in New Orleans but it was good. Great location just south of Creighton. I do miss the crêpe restaurant but I guess Mr. Market spoke.

I’m so glad that Star Deli opened up by Creighton! I had never been to their original Benson location, but it’s quite likely that I’ll become a regular at this one. Their sandwiches are a bit on the pricey side($ 9 for a full sandwich is a little higher than most sandwich shops), but for the quality, I think it’s absolutely worth it. Plus, half sandwiches are a more reasonable $ 5, and are still plenty big for a typical lunch. I really appreciate that they have a full menu of vegetarian options, which go far beyond the usual cheese sandwich offering that a lot of delis have. So far, I’ve tried the caprese and the sweet potato avocado, and they’ve both been delicious, with plenty of fresh ingredients and served on a perfectly toasted baguette. I keep wanting to try some of their others(their house made hummus sounds great, as does the indulgent jalapeño popper grilled cheese with strawberry jam), but that caprese keeps distracting me! Now that the weather is cooling off, I’m also getting intrigued by their soups. Today I tried their vegan chili for the first time, and wow, it’s awesome! It’s really rich, with a great roasted tomato flavor, and lots if seasoning. It’s pretty spicy, which is just how I like it, but if you have a gentler palate, be advised! Overall, this is such a great sandwich place, and I’m so glad to have it so nearby!

How much better could Star Deli be? I asked myself that question as we sat eating Ted & Wally’s ice cream and preparing for sandwich perfection at the new location(near Creighton on N. 24th) yesterday. That time spent waiting isn’t a strike, either, in my book — five or ten minutes building and toasting a sandwich just right is an investment, not a wait. For that matter, the service is always excellent. Of course, it’s mostly about the food. On that note, my favorite sandwiches are the Sweet Potato Avocado, the Pork Carnitas, and the Stampede. Oh, and the Rachel, and Long Beach Club. And the Peach and Pork. And, and, and, and, and. Although there isn’t as much artwork at the 24th Street location, I prefer that space to the Benson location. Better feng shui, I think. Or, maybe just having more light and a higher ceiling help. I often pass by(or, God forbid, enter) a mediocre restaurant that is packed with people, and I have to scratch my head. Here, it’s the opposite — why isn’t this place packed? Forget the Subway comparisons I hear people make(Seriously, there is no comparing the ingredient quality!) and instead compare Star Deli to some other high-quality Omaha restaurants, and the value of a delicious $ 9 sandwich made with quality ingredients, big enough to be two meals, becomes apparent. Maybe it is the curse of being«just» a deli — who knows. Want to rub salt in the wound? The Groupon that is(was?) recently available turned a good value into borderline robbery.

I am glad that this space is becoming a functional lunch and dinner café for the nearby work and Creighton population! Soups, salads and sandwiches round out for a good menu. Star deli is beloved in Benson so another branch shows their obvious success. Today my stampede sandwich was pretty good. It’s a in-house roast beef sandwich with horsey mayo and lettuce/tomato. I called ahead to order bc sometimes the sandwiches can take a while. They quoted me 15 mins and it was ready right on time. My only recommendations to Star is please cut the roast beef a little thinner and also a little more seasoning/flavoring would be great! I can tell that the roast beef is homemade– it’s not generic coldcuts but the cuts were thicker, needed a little more flavor, and could have been a tiny more tender. I’d also like to see the horsey mayo pack a little more punch like the Arby’s variety. This one tasted more just like plain mayo-which I don’t mind at all but just don’t advertise it as horsey! I’m sure with 8 weeks under their belt they are still working on kinks in the kitchen and I look forward to more great meals here.

My first reaction when I saw the menu, «wtf, $ 9 for a sandwhich?!». And then I tried it and realized it was well worth the price.(or $ 5 for half a sandwhich) The bread, the meat, the veggies, are all quality stuff. The bread is soft with the right texture, meat doesn’t taste like it came out of a package and the tomatoes actually have flavor. Service is great, I can tell these guys take a lot of pride in their product and genuinely wants their customers to enjoy their experience. My favorite sandwich is the stampede, which is their roast beef sandwich. You know the roast beef is homemade and not from a package because it’s actually med-rare. Oh and they also sell Ted and Wally’s ice cream for dessert!

Star Deli, which has another location in Benson, took over the former Corner Creperie… and I couldn’t be happier… after seeing a menu, I decided to stop in for some dinner to go… the two options I wanted they weren’t serving due to not having the proper equipment yet… No big deal… So I ordered the Cubano, with mozarella instead of Swiss and a caprese salad… the guy working here was great, very friendly and took his sandwich making seriously… the sandwich was great as was the salad… no real complaints… the cost for the food was in line with what I ordered, which was always my biggest gripe with the Corner Creperie… I will totally come back since it’s so close and is worth the money spent…
