Redneck Saloon

My sister and I were trying to drive from Denver to Chicago. We were stranded from a storm and Unilocaled some bars. We saw great reviews from this one. We drove from our hotel, only in for the night in Omaha looking for a good time. As we approached the redneck saloon we were stopped by an employee of the bars. He informed us that they weren’t open because they had a holiday party. I asked him where to go because we weren’t from the area. His words «I don’t know». He obviously lives here and was just a total dick, lick he doesn’t know any other bars in the hood. My sister and I continued to google bars and found Bucky Dexters. The best bar in Omaha!!! The bartenders were amazing, the patrons were so friendly, and the prices aren’t bad either. Only a mile down the road for 100% better experience.

Upfront disclosure: I am so not a cow-​person, rodeo go-​er, nor do I own boots or a Ford.
I do however, have a dang fun time in this place. My desire to drink and have fun is fulfilled here. It sometimes seems a bit high schoolish (real word, I swear), as I watched a guy punch the brand new privacy fence in the smoking area. But other than that, it has a feel of closeness that seems all too rare in Omaha.
Good time had by all.

This isn’t really my kind of crowd, but I was happy to lurk at our table and drink cheap light beer… After reverse HH at Hiro 88, why wouldn’t a country bar with smoke machine and very active dance floor be the next likely stop? And I can say from what will likely be my one and only experience here that they don’t charge a cover if you roll in after 1am (though if we’d had a more ‘dude-​heavy’ ratio that decision could easily have gone the other way.
The crowd was nice overall, and nobody hassled us even though we were clearly out of place. If you’re a lady looking to do some fancy country dancing, there are plenty of hat-​wearing guys that would love to twirl you around to the tunes of country provided by the bar’s live DJ. Our friend got asked to dance almost immediately and a couple of times thereafter.
I was ultimately pretty impressed by some of the dancing prowess on display by some couples. And the impression I got was that this is a place where nice people go to dance and enjoy a weekend (no drinks allowed on the dance floor). Kind of an awkward strip-​mall location, but the backwards «D» on the sign should show you the way.

We live very close to this bar, so it is frequently the ‘eh, lets go there’ when we want to go out but don’t want to put any effort into it.
It’s self described as a ‘redneck cowboy bar’, and the name fits. The first thing you see when you come into this bar is cowboy hats and boots as far as the eye can see. The second thing you see is the giant dance floor in the middle of the bar, full of people two-​steppin’ and line dancin’.
My wife and I are avid people watchers, so this bar provides hours of entertainment paired with cheap beer. In other words, we love it.
If you are into dancing, then you’ll like it too. There is always a good mix of two-​step, slow, and line dances, and the have professional dancers on staff who will dance with you if you don’t like being hit on by sleazy drunk cowboys (but who doesn’t!).
One thing that always bothers me is there is a cover every day, but it’s usually about $ 3, and the cheap beer more than makes up for it. I suspect it’s just to keep the bums out (though I can’t say I’ve ever seen a bum at 84^th and Center…). I just have issues with paying just for the privilege of entering your bar, seriously, I’m going to buy your beer, get over yourself.
Finally, the bouncer /​always/​, and without fail, will hassle my friends who have non-​Nebraska IDs. It’s like he can’t comprehend that someone who doesn’t live here might actually want to come into his bar. Seriously dude, we’ve all been legal for years, just check the birthday and move on.
Overall this is a great bar to people watch in, or drink cheap beer (go for the pitchers!), but it’s nothing fancy and you guys aren’t going to be picking up any chicks here (girls, you will find lots of desperate boys though!)
