I like this place, I mean what a great convenience, but they stylists seem to not listen to the client when they ask for a specific style. Please, seriously please, listen to what we are asking for. Regardless, this is a nice luxury and I like the products that they use.

I tried this place after purchasing a groupon for a blow out, conditioning treatment, and 5-minute scalp massage. I sat down after being greeted by my stylist and she thrust an iPad into my hands asking me which type of style I wanted. She talked through them very quickly, and not wanting to take too much time deciding, I went with the glamazon. I liked the«menu» idea for styles… like a look book. Before my appointment I had perused the website and it mentioned digital magazines on iPads for clients. So once the stylist was done showing me the menu, I held onto the iPad. Then she sort of made an awkward grab for it, before asking for it back. She then put it on the counter behind her where it sat unused. I’m a fan of reading fashion magazines while getting spa and hair care services… it’s just more fun when you’re being pampered. So I was disappointed that I was left to my own devices. Literally. I dug around in my purse for my phone so I had something to do. Which leads right into my next point… my stylist was pretty awkward. She tried to engage in some small talk at first, but once she got to work, keeping up a conversation seemed to be too much. An expectation of a stylist is that he/she is able to «entertain» their client a bit and keep things fun while providing the service. My stylist needs more practice multitasking and making clients feel at ease. She also probably needs more training. While round brushing my hair, she got my hair tangled pretty bad several times… ouch! At one point, a few strands of my hair got caught in the back of the blow drier. Even more ouch. As I was sitting in the chair oft in silence, I observed three other stylists with nothing to do. One was watching a movie on the tv, and the other two were doing their own makeup at the makeup bar. I felt that this was a bit unprofessional, and made me feel largely invisible. I was pretty pleased with the end result, though it looked nothing like the photo. The products they use really made my hair soft and shiny. However, a few hours after the service, my hair was pretty much a mess. I didn’t do anything crazy, just walked around my house, so you can imagine my surprise when I checked myself out in the mirror only to find that my hair had become frizzy and the volume had all dropped out. I had to basically redo the whole thing before going out that night. Again, disappointing.

Lovely space and ambiance. My visit here was a few months ago. However, after turning off the blowdryer to finish my hair, I learned that there is a $ 10 additional charge for any other styling tool. Um… I was rendered speechless. Out of the dozens of «blow outs» I’ve had over the years, I have never been asked to pay more to run a flatiron over a few of unruly pieces. This was a bummer as the blowout didn’t smooth my hair or add nearly as much body and volume as my previous blowouts. Unfortunately, it was kind of frizzy as well because of the rainy day. Most styling aids for those hair issues are serums and sprays that are«sealed in» with the heat of a tool. I didn’t want curls nor did I want a «sleek» straight look. I wanted to leave feeling that my hair was done; full, bouncy, frizz free and feeling great that I found a new, cute place to frequent. In defense of this place, they DO say that the use of «hot tools» is an additional charge. Unfortunately for this dumb customer, I had never heard ‘flatirons’ or ‘curling irons’ referred to as ‘hot tools.’ Of course they’re hot. Of course they’re tools. Had I paid better attention or asked more questions, I would have known ahead of time to NEVER book an appointment. Really, out of principle. A la carte services at such a lovely place turned my experience into a cheap diner experience. «You want steak and potatoes? Well, you’re going to have to pay an additional cost for the use of any utensils.» Also, after hearing the owners response on a prior unfavorable review, her defenseivness sealed the deal for me. She defended every issue and not once accepted any accountability of the client’s poor experience. Incredibly tacky and classless. When you own a business and someone leaves your business unhappy with their experience, sometimes you’ve just got to suck it up, keep your mouth shut and say those 2 little words that this place doesn’t like…“I’m sorry…“ I don’t work for Chill Body Manicure and Pedicure Bar nor have ever set foot in it. It just gets a lot of reviews on Unilocal. However, I am inspired to try it on the sole basis of professionalism and grace that the owner treated each reviewer with. Looks like the other blowdry bars in town still have no competition. Regards, Me
