Do. Not. Use. Our AC was no longer blowing cold air and a tech came out and told us that not only was our unit super old, but that we need to buy a new one because the coils were bad. He set up a consultation with their sales department and left, with a $ 10k estimate on a new AC unit. We had a second guy come in from a different company and he told us we needed to replace our filter for 50 cents. And WOW! AC works. They tried to sell us a $ 10,000 air conditioner for a 50 cent fix.

Earlier this month my air conditioner stopped working and I called McCarthy’s One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning to take a look. Not only did they show up on time, but the technician was very knowledgeable about my system and what I really needed in my home. In the end, I decided that it was better to replace my 17 year old system and I’m glad I did! Now things are back up and running and my house is cool. I don’t have to worry about excessive cooling costs because I have a brand new, high efficient air conditioner. McCarthy’s One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning took care of me and gave me the peace of mind I needed.

I appreciate McCarthy responding to my recent review. Let me set the record straight. McCarthy’s tech/salesman was indeed out in May 2014. We never heard back from him after the visit. After repeated attempts, he finally called and provided verbal quote for new air conditioning unit with no specifics. Disappointed, I called the McCarthy office to get details. After they verbally provided the information, we contacted our service provider on the east coast for an opinion. The east coast company spelled out requirements for a system/s outlined in the contents of the email(pasted below) along with their recommended pricing which I forwarded to McCarthy. McCarthy politely declined the job. Here is the body of the body of the email sent on June 6th, 2014. Thanks for the call today and we appreciate the follow up. Can you please re work the quote and send me a revise proposal based on the information below: 1) Trane/Carrier/Bryant/Payne/Lennox unit is our preference 2) Include the replacement of the furnace as well 3) For the 3.0 tons cooling unit, is the line set size(3⁄8 for the liquid and 7⁄8 for the vapor line)? Anything smaller than that will cut down the seasonal energy efficiency rating(SEER). 4) Also, the evaporator coil, we want TXV not the piston. 5) R-410 A refrigerant because R-22 is out of the date and is very expensive for service/repair down the road. 6) For all the above, the installed price here in Northern VA under $ 4500.00 7) For example: 8) Condensing unit(outdoor) Payne/Carrier model: 9) PA13NA03600G(13SEER-R410A, 10 year warranty) cost $ 881.00 10) Gas furnace 80% natural gas 70KBTU3 tons blower(10 yrs. on all parts and 20 yrs. on heat exchanger warranty) 11) PG8MAA036070 cost $ 416.00 12) Evaporator coil Carrier Vertical All– Aluminum coil(10 yrs. warranty) 13) CNPVP3617ALA cost $ 427.00 14) Line set(30 ft.) 3⁄8 and 7⁄8 cost $ 142.00 15) Total equipment cost: $ 1866.00 16) Labor allowance is $ 2,000.00 17) Total $ 3,866.00 Further, with regards to the furnace – McCarthy’s tech did not even get to the blower before he started recommending a complete replacement unit. The bottom line is we are happy to pay vendors for services rendered but like most other consumers, don’t appreciate being overcharged for or sold something we don’t need. An thank you. I have used them for over 5 years now. Have always had great service. I LOVELOVE that they use booties to cover their shoes when stepping into my house. To me it isn’t even about keeping the dirt off my floor, so much as showing respect for my house. The one time i had an issue with them, they stepped up and took care of it and more so.

We had them replace the motor on our furnace. It broke on the coldest day of the year. They were able to have the new motor installed within 48 hours even though the furnace wasn’t a brand that they were a dealer for. The service tech helped educate us on the issues and completed a professional install.
