First let me say that the food here is excellent. We’ve eaten takeout from here a few times and have never been disappointed. The service was never great or horrible. Until today… I called to place an order and was told «hold on». I could hear talking in the background as I patiently waited. After a few minutes of listening to a side conversation I figured they forgot about me so I hung up and called back. A gentleman answered. I asked to place an order and he abruptly told me to call back in 5 minutes and hung up. I’ve never had someone tell me to just call back and hang up without even being able to respond. I’m torn because I love their food, but refuse to accept this level of customer service. I’m not sure if we’ll be back here or not. We certainly went elsewhere tonight!
Update. We’ve been back since this incident and have not had a similar experience, so I am upping my review to 4 stars. The food is still great.

This place has great Chinese food. It used to be our go to place for Chinese and went here often. This would be a five a five star rating however, the last time we went we had fish mixed in with our chicken dish which was very unsettling for us as we not fish people. This hopefully was just an error and not due to a shortage in which they thought «we wouldn’t notice». Nevertheless we have had great experiences here both in food and service and will be back at some point.

Horrible service! In THE PAST I ordered a particular meal from this restaurant once a year on my birthday. Too expensive for us to eat often. There was something wrong with the food (usually a sweet sauce, tasted like mayo) and I called in. I was told they would make new. I went in and was then told I had to bring the bad food in (in the trash at my house). I was on the way to my kids piano lessons in the opposite direction. The owner refused to make a replacement until I brought in the bad food. I offered to bring the bad food back the next day and he still refused.

Wow. I have never gotten take out that I was this disappointed with. Discolored broccoli! Gross! They even put more rice in the side where the good stuff is supposed to go. I ordered the chicken in hot garlic sauce which was more like broccoli with some chicken in garlic water. Will probably not order here again. Really disappointed

I stopped in for a late lunch– really lovely place and friendly servers– lunch was $ 12 with egg rolls, I enjoyed the hot and sour soup one of the better ones I’ve had and would go back again the egg rolls were fresh and delicious. no mushy eggrolls here. I ordered Mongolian beef which was extremely tasty. was very pleased with my lunch.

Had excellent Hong Kong pan fried noodles at the westroads location, decided to pick up an order here since it was on the way home. Here their idea of pan fried noodles are the regular crispy noodles you buy in the grocery store made soft by soaking in the sauce. Yuck. Back to Five Spice!

I don’t know what was wrong but took approximately an hour and a half to get our food. Granted, there were 20 of us but I go with this many in a group a few times a month and rarely do we see this problem. I believe they were short staffed. Someone had to give their order over after everyone was served but him. The waitress had a hard time speaking, English not being her first language so even trying to serve the food was a problem when she tried to say what it was. Rice came out in individual bowls when a few big bowls, family style, would have been better/​easier. I was one of the last 4 – 5 to get served. By then, my rice was cold. The food was also not that hot. It was very disappointing. Never had this problem at the Clocktower location even with a big group. I don’t think we will be back. Not sure if a manager was even there?!

Easily some of the best Chinese food I’ve had in Omaha. Service is fast and they are all very polite. My favorite dish is their peanut butter chicken. Crab Rangoon is a must purchase. Highly recommended.

You get a lot for your money! At least two meals worth. The chicken or pork lo mein is awesome, as well as the broccoli beef. The only thing that I wish they would add is none of the meals include rice, so I always have to buy a small side. Great crab ragoons

Not sure what has changed here recently, but every part of this place has gone downhill rapidly. The restroom cleanliness isn’t up to par, the service is considerably slower due to a lack of staff, and the food quality is almost inedible now. Really sad considering this used to be our go to option for Chinese food in west Omaha.

I’m a freak about clean restaurants and this one passed :). We went at noon on a Friday but the place was empty. I’m surprised because the food was excellent. I had shrimp lettuce wraps. They were an appetizer but plenty for main dish. Is go there again. Very pleased!

The food is delicious. Usually. The service is good. Unless it’s really busy. Also, they have let their website lapse, and they don’t post their menu online — so trying to come up with it (if you don’t have one at home) was a pain in the a$$ for me.
Lucky for you, I did the legwork. You can google
and find it. The owners need to overcome their apathy and get on the ball. Good food in this town — it’s everywhere. Only service and passion for your food/​business keeps me coming back.

As far as I remember, several businesses occupied this location. It went from an optometrist to a Chinese restaurant. From a Chinese restaurant to another Chinese restaurant. From THAT Chinese restaurant to J.C. Mandarin. I decided to try it today and was impressed. It wasn’t busy at the time, so I was immediately seated and had my order taken. The egg drop soup was great (they have it, even though it’s not on the menu) and the General chicken tasted great. Unlike the breaded chicken fingers I’m used to seeing at Applebees, they had a light breading with sauce and fresh vegetables.
My complaint? Just the portion size for the price, especially since Chinese food makes me hungry after I step out of the restaurant. But that’s to be expected. Excluding tip, I paid less than $ 10. If you come here during lunch, expect their prices to be around $ 9 for entrees.
