Dropped boat off at busiest time so I knew it would be a while. I specifically asked for a call with an estimate before any work was done. I ended up calling a week later and was told it would be another week before they could look at it. Still no call so I stopped in and was told they were trying to figure out how to attach the bracket to raise the outboard 4″ because its a long shaft and the boat needed a short shaft. Not only did I not get a call with an estimate on the outboard diagnostic and repair, but this «custom» bracket was already ordered and being installed. They told me it would be ready in a couple more days, this is 3 weeks now. Still no phone call in week 4 and I was out of town so I had my buddy call, who recommended this place and said he knew the owner, they told him it’d be done the following week, 5 weeks since I dropped it off. I get back in town and call to check on it again and I got voicemail, then the next day I get a call saying it was time to pick it up. Thankfully I had the over $ 800 for the repairs and bracket or I would’ve made a much bigger deal about never getting an estimate call but when I saw it, I about lost it. This «custom» bracket is two stainless steel posts bolted to the stern with a pressure treated 2X4 across them that the outboard attaches to. Not only is that ridiculous for $ 300+ but when they installed it, they covered up the hole where the plug goes so they took a disk grinder and cut it right there on the boat. So it has an ugly cut in the metal and they also cut into the fiberglass on the boat, looks like crap. This is no show boat by any stretch, but that looks terrible and the 2X4 really adds to the back yard hack job look.
On the bright side, the motor runs good and starts right up, after I went and bought a new fuel line since that was not functioning when I went to the boat launch after picking it up. Long winded but bottom line, communication was bad, workmanship on the bracket looks lazy and cheesy but the motor runs well and I think it will last another several years, won’t go back here.
