The beer at Three Magnets is so frickin’ awesome it defies explanation. As a WABL member, I’ve sampled a few beers and I can tell you these boys brew absolute magic at 3 Magnets. Compliments to Jeff, Nate and Pat. Hey, just check out how many WA Beer awards they’ve earned. Jordan is pretty dang chill as well. Oh, and the lunch is super laid back, affordable, and delicious with combos including seasonal entrees, fresh cut crispy fries, and delicious beer! Recently, I particularly loved their Press Release pale, Staying Alive dry hopped non-kettle sour, and Bigger and Juicier triple IPA. Watch yourself with that last one!

Here is an awesome spot in downtown Olympia that on paper states that it serves great, local when possible, eats and drinks… buuuuuuut on a continued basis has demonstrated a pattern of disregard and complete lack of customer service. I have watched others and myself sit and wait and wait and wait for service and even the same occurs when you wait and wait and wait at the bar to order food and beer. Totally limiting the effort needed to provide normal customer service literally anywhere else. There’s a great atmosphere, they show soccer games, the food is decent and drinks are good, however you can only acquire these things when the employees are willing… which is far and few between.

Although I really like their beer my first visit for lunch was a huge(and I mean HUGE) disappointment. After ordering our drinks on their patio we asked our waiter for a moment to decide on our entrees. Fifteen minutes later my son had to get up to try and locate him. Amazingly, he found him at a table with a female customer, calmly eating his lunch! One of the bartenders had to come out and take our order. To add insult to injury it was another thirty minutes before our sandwiches arrived. They were decent but the fries were some of the worst that I have ever had. They were undercooked, cold and barely seasoned. As my son commented, this place is riding the wave of being trendy and hip but with their barely average food and abysmal service they won’t last long. Do yourself a favor and spend your hard earned money somewhere else.

On the way home from Portland and wanted to give a local brewery a shot. Awesome beer and Cider but we’ve been waiting for an hour for our sandwiches. As the food slowly comes out to other tables, we inquire about our order and are told the kitchen is working in a space about the size of our table. Our bad I guess…

Stopped in for some lunch and a beverage with friends. The service at the bar was pleasant. And then 1 hour later our sandwich came out cold which might have been okay if we’d ordered a cold sandwich but we hadn’t. The fries were cold and the aoli that came with them more like mayonnaise with red food coloring. Their IPA honestly taste likes peanuts(which i do love but not in a beer). Hoping it was a total off day as I’d love this place to be awesome.

I’ve been coming here since this place opened. The beer is good and the menu had been refined over time. Generally, I have no complaints with this place but tonight must have been an «off night». My server promised to be «right back» after she dropped off my beer. 35 minutes later, no service, left and went down to Fish Tale for dinner. …

I really, really want to love this brew pub. The ambiance is exactly what olympia needs, rustic meets hipster, casual meets vaguely sporty, roll up garage doors open to an outdoor patio. The food is interesting and fun(e.g. Blistered Shishito Peppers with edamame and sea salt) the drinks are good(Mezcal Manhattan) Unfortunately: The Service. I wish I could say the service was even hit or miss, but alas, it is always A. Big. Miss. The service, in a word, is pure Olympia. Eventually the servers will bring food 90 minutes after ordering, disappearing and failing to offer to bring more drinks, not wearing bras… it’s the New Cruelty. Again, I really, really, REALLY, want to love this place.

Food was definitely eclectic. The atmosphere is very inviting with an open garage for the inside to go out and enjoy a patio experience. Not only is this family-friendly but pet-friendly. A menagerie of beers on tap as well as being able to purchase them in Growlers and single bottles for the beer connoisseur on the go! The food we enjoyed or a bison sandwich, a grilled cheese sandwich, and a turkey sandwich with sprouts and two kinds of pesto exclamation point the food was delicious, the service was great, and this writer was even better! 1 Growler 2 bottles of beer to go please!?!

My wife, infant son, and I were heading down to Portland and wanted to stop along the way for some lunch and a pint. We found Three Magnets on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. Their tap room is all-ages until 4pm and has tons of natural light, and a big-screen TV showing lots of soccer(Sounders scarves are proudly hung on the wall nearby). We each ordered a different IPA from their tap list but one had just run out; so we ordered two of the same instead. The waitress returned a couple of minutes later to tell us that keg had just blown too. She apologized for the issue and gave us a 22oz bottle of a special IPA on the house instead. It was the Little Juice Smoothie Edition. Deliciously hoppy with tropical fruit notes. The head provided a nice creaminess that held true to the«smoothie» name. For food, we had the bison sandwich. We had it cold and it was very tasty. Good thin-sliced bison cold cuts, flavorful white cheddar, a good spread of mayo, and a combo of mung bean sprouts and red onion that gave it a delightful crunch. Really hit the spot. Our waitress was awesome with our son. She brought him a couple of straws to play with which made him extra happy. Overall, she made our lunch a pleasure and ensured that our son stayed super-happy throughout. Three Magnets was a great stop and we’ll definitely stop by again on our next family road trip.

Three Magnets is a solid brewery with some tasty beer and unique food options. I tasted multiple beers at the table but ended up ordering the Little Juice IPA which was fresh and hoppy. For food I tried the blue cheese and mushroom burger which was flavorful but hard to eat because it was so tall! The fries were good, but cold. My friends got the meat and cheese tray that came with olives, nuts, and three mini beer tasters. The portion was generous and enough for them to eat their fill and share with the table. I’ve gotta be honest, after reading the Unilocal reviews I feared the service here would be atrocious. Turns out it was a bit overblown. Our large party of ~10 had an extremely attentive waitress who cleared dishes as soon as we were done, made sure we never had any empty glasses, and kindly divided up our check when we left. I can see how they may get a little overwhelmed during a weekend rush, but our weeknight visit ran smoothly. I wouldn’t let the bad service reviews deter you from checking this place out.

I can’t believe 3 Mags only has 3 stars right now! I love this place, the atmosphere, the service, the beer, the food. They pair their food and beer extremely well. This is a step above any other Brewery in Olympia! Try the Boards. They pair food and beer together and they are on point!

Waitress was rude. I get it. You’re busy. Don’t roll your eyes at me if I ask if you have something. Ordered the clam beignets. They were rubbery and not very good. Decided after those to leave and eat elsewhere. My husband and I went here on our first time tonight on a recommendation. Needless to say we may not be back for a while and will prob never recommend anyone here.

What a FUN time we had here during an event for the Olympia Family Theater. I’m a huge fan of Captain Little and an even bigger fan of the food and environment at Three Magnets. My kiddo recently had her very first root beer float and so this was a really fun event for her and her little buddies… And for the parents! I’ve had the Farmer’s Salad… Which is a whole lotta yummy goodness packed into a small bowl and then today the kimchi potato salad. Both so good. Buuuuuut… I’m a lover of kimchi. And I’m determined to make my own version of this. Because I really, really love it and want more. The kiddos had a cheesy flatbread… Which, they made before the standard 4 pm serving time. Thank you… They loved it. They also had cheesy fries(So. Much. Cheese.)… There was a hair in the fries. Gross. Gross. And gross. The event was fun. The cider was great… But I can’t do hair in the food. I’ve been here a few times, most typically during lunch, and it’s been slow service but great food. Today, perhaps because of the popularity of the event(I hope) they kinda failed on food and service(hair and conflicting servers accounts of what could be ordered when). I like this space. And I generally like the food and cider… Which is why I’m almost certain I’ll be back… Just keep the hair out of the food, please!

This place is a bit of a disappointment to me. I had previously tried their beer at a festival, so I was super excited about grabbing a flight and some food while visiting Olympia. My wife had previously looked up the menu and found 3 – 4 sandwiches that sounded amazing. When we arrived we were both shocked to see that they stopped serving sandwiches after 4PM… something I am still struggling to understand. I looked at the starters and didn’t really see anything worth grabbing and the price was high enough that i figured I would just get a burger. I was not really impressed by any of the burgers, but grabbed just a basic cheese burger. One of our friends had the mushroom flat bread and honestly it was pretty tasty, but not enough for a meal, plus was really only mushrooms, arugula and balsamic on flat bread. My wife and her friend split a Mediterranean flat bread and the pork belly fold sandwich thing. I didn’t try to flat bread, but the pork belly half sandwich was not good at all. My wife thought it was tolerable, and she was absolutely wrong. It was gross. It had a weird glaze or something over it that gave it a tart, unappealing flavor. The burger came out medium, like any good burger should and the fries were pretty good. Of course this is not the main reason to come to a brewery. Since I was day drinking and got an upset stomach I was only able to sample all of the beers, but my wife and friend split a 6 beer flight. All of the beers were very flavorful and delicious… except for one of them, but 5 out of 6 is still really good. The main reason for the mid star review: 1. I cant fathom why sandwiches would not be served at night time… it is absolutely baffling. 2. Prices were pretty high overall. Even eating the food, I never felt like I was getting a good deal. Its trying to be a more upscale bar and that’s fine, but I would have killed for some humas or tots or cheesy flat bread. Just something cheap and easy to soak up the bad stomach feeling. $ 15 for a burger and fries is not outrageous, but not great by any means. 3. The food is too fancy for a bar/brewery. I love hipster bars that have great food. Hell take Red Hot in Tacoma for example They serve a variety of hot dogs and chips for around $ 5-$ 7 and that is the type of experience I want have a brewery. Simple, good, cheap food… or I want the full amazing food experience. Take for example McMennimens or Dirty Oscars. You leave spending a good amount of money, but its totally worth it. Hell I even prefer the Odd Otter experience, they don’t serve food, but are next to 3 – 4 food places that will deliver. This place is in the middle food wise but near the top price wise. Overall I would stop by for a beer again… and possibly for a sandwich… but never again around dinner time. The food was not equivalent to the price and the menu was severely lacking.

Great spot in Olympia. The atmosphere is great, friendly staff, giant TV on the wall for sportsball. Had the lamburger and it was delicious! They were out of 2⁄3 of the Three Magnets brews on the menu when I visited, but I got the Sun IPA and it was yummy.

I liked the vibe and the wide variety of food and beers offered. It’s also cool that part of the brewery is family friendly. This made it possible for us to stop in now that our group includes a baby. I love that Olympia businesses are so family friendly. On a Saturday night the vibe was still chill and nice for a spot to have a drink and catch up with friends. They also offer non alcoholic options like ginger soda and rootbeer which were definitely house made. I loved this since I don’t drink if I’m driving. The rootbeer was crazy good. The best I’ve ever had. The only area I think they could pick it up a little was with the service. On the family friendly side we waited at the counter for quite awhile without getting any service. I ended up having to walk down to the other side to order my drink. Someone else had to order for my friend with the baby since she couldn’t take the baby to the other side. So, awesome that they have a family friendly side, but it’d be even better if they better staffed that side. We definitely weren’t the only people on that side either. I’d love to come back and try the beers that my friends really enjoyed. I’m definitely getting the rootbeer again too.

Overall the place was good, had kind of a fun vibe. I like the indoor-outdoor door that makes the place feel open. Seems like they put more effort into their food as opposed to just something to help was their beer down. Service was kind of slow, but that kind of thing doesn’t bother me nearly as much as most of the entitled princesses on this site. Now the beer geek complaint(and reason for low star rating): 6 out of the 8 beers on tap on 10/11/2015 are pale ales or IPAs, which is the beer scene in the PNW in a nutshell. None of them are particularly noteworthy or mind blowing either. The black lager was actually pretty good. If you can brew a decent lager, you are a good brewer. I wish the brewer would spend some more time exploring other styles than the stagnant pale ale/IPA. I won’t come back to drink more pale ales, but as soon as the taplist reflects some diversity with some darker beers, I will surely come back.

Was alright. Good friend of mine, knifemaker Mareko Maumasi suggested the place. Nice big wide open space. We shared a plate of the cheese curd beignets, and they were tasty, but there was a berry topping on them that was not very flavor forward, so it sort of moistened the beignet and that was unnecessary. We each had a sausage, mine without bun, and it was very tasty… although I would have preferred a stone ground or dijon mustard, served on the side, so I could season as desired, fries were great! Our server was not on her game, and we were ready to leave about 10 minutes before we were FINALLY handed our check. I’d go back when in Olympia… for a glass of cider, but in my estimation, Trinacria is STILL the restaurant to beat in Olympia for food!

I went here recently with my hubby and a friend and we loved everything about this place. First the location is great and the ambience is casual cool. We had our little one so we sat in the family section. The regular bar area looked like a fun place to hang out. After speaking with our waitress for a bit we found out that they hired a new chef who completely redid their menu. I ordered the watermelon salad and was blown away. It included frisse salad with pistachio butter, salt and goat cheese. I tried bites of my hubby’s mussels which he absolutely loved. There was an interesting sauce on top of the mussels and the fries were delicious & salty. We also loved splitting the beer sampler — I liked the sour ale and the brown ale the best. We will definitely be back!

I walked in here having absolutely no idea what to expect from them, and that’s speaking as somebody who spends waaaay too much time reading about new breweries, special releases, and beer industry news. I don’t know if they’re under the radar, or there’s just too much going on to keep up anymore, or whether it’s because they’ve only just recently begun shipping kegs up north to the Seattle area, but all I knew about them was their name and address. Clearly, though, in the year they’ve been here, they’ve already built up a nice following and they know what they’re doing for sure. They’re right downtown, near the capitol(I say that like I know Olympia geography… forgive me if this area isn’t considered close to the capitol). Even very early on a sunny day when most of the world was probably headed outside to recreate, they were already building up a steady stream of customers through the door. You can park on the street on one end, or in a decent-sized lot on the other. The parking lot enters on the bar, and the street side brings you into a medium-sized cluster of restaurant seating. In between the two, there’s a kitchen and a brewhouse. The brewhouse looks sizable, with nice shiny new equipment, but it wasn’t in operation on the Sunday we visited. The kitchen was bustling(plenty of staff all flying around at the start of the lunch hour), though. We wandered down to the bar. There’s a big high bar with tall stools, a long barback, some communal highboy tables, and then a scattering of smaller tables. They have nice coasters and glassware, and the tables even have the company logo burned into the wood at regular intervals. Lots of full-custom construction everywhere you look. These guys got some cash from somewhere before they opened this place, that’s for sure. They haven’t even been around a year yet and they already look as nice as 90+% of the breweries around. Fortunately, the nice touches extend far beyond the superficial. The beers were all startlingly good, and not messing around with a garden-variety lineup, either. We had an APA, IPA, saison, table bier, pils, and kellerbier. They all had great flavors with real clarity and balance. Only the pils showed some off flavors, with the pilsner yeast throwing some esters that smelled(and tasted) like swimming pool toys. This is an easy mistake to make in brewing a pils(and it’s not even a mistake, so much as it is a yeast by-product), and I’m sure they’ll tidy this beer into lovely shape in short order. We didn’t try the food at all, but the burgers cooking definitely smelled great. There were tons of families and small groups of friends coming in for meals and beers. It seems like this place has already found its niche. The staff are super friendly and nice, cheerfully answering questions with information that was helpful far beyond just addressing the specific questions we were asking, telling us all about the local beer scene and interesting details about the brewery. I like everything about this place(most importantly, the beer), and will definitely be back.
