We are from Texas and we were visiting Oak Ridge, TN for a funeral. While searching on line for nearby attractions I cam across a website for Windrock off-road trails. We went on a Tuesday morning. There was only one other family, so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves(250 miles of trails!) We were driving our stock Nissan Titan with street tires. Nothing special, just a regular daily driver. We chose a moderate trail, assuming the Titan could handle what Windrock described a moderate trail as «mud, water, some hills and rocks, etc.» About a mile into trail #22, we came to many large rocks in the middle of the road on a steep incline. After numerous failed attempts to get over the rocks we had to drive in reverse up the steep and narrow trail until we could turn around and head back. We were a little disappointed that we couldn’t continue, be we understood that our stock truck wasn’t really meant to be out there anyway. It was exciting and I enjoyed it, but my wife was worried the whole time I was going to scratch the truck! We made it out without a scratch(luckily!) The map was a little difficult to follow due to not having many landmarks to use as a guide. Once we got out of trail #22 we went up the windmill trail. The frost on the trees at the top added to the«wow» effect. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and had fun on the trails. Overall we had a great time and it was an awesome first-time experience.
