Beach Street Cafe

This place is wicked cute, prices are good, the food was good, the staff was nice enough — all in all, it’s a great place to get a bite to eat if you don’t want to deal with a crowded spot right by the beach and arcade.
The only downside was there was a hair in my boyfriends food. I was a waitress for 3 years, I know stuff like this is bound to happen every now and again. The waitress was very nice and offered to get us a whole new meal and apologized over and over.

Breakfast has to be one of easiest meals to get right but this place manages to get it wrong at every step. Coffee was horrible, eggs were smal as was the home fries which were cooked to a dried cardboard. Price was high and the total experience was poor. There are better breakfast places around.

I don’t even know where to start. I am NEVER one to complain and am in the industry– so I usually have more patience and understanding– but the experience I had here yesterday. ABSOLUTELY HORRID. I had arrived late to join my party who had already been waiting outside for over 45 minutes. When I had arrived there were plenty of tables inside available as well as three picnic tables set up outside. We were quoted no wait time, not followed up with at any time as for any updates either. When we finally were approached we were told they could split us up between two tables inside or take one picnic table outside. There was eight of us. We opted to all sit together as we don’t get to see each other often. What a mistake! We sat outside for almost 20 minutes before we were approached for drinks. Drinks arrived 20 minutes later. At this point we all knew this was going to be quite the experience. About almost an hour into this, being seated at the table– we were finally able to place our order. One of the members of our party asked if she could just order a bunch of sides– and the servers response was «you could but that would just make it harder for me» complimented with a sigh and a shift it weight. CUSTOMER SERVICE– at least a million thumbs down– but i only have two. I Haven’t even gotten to the food and feel like I’ve already written a novel. Let’s just say the meal was not worth a penny. to sum up everybody’s meal one ended up being to go because he had to travel to work and was going to be late if he waited any longer which was gone found before all our food was even delivered. The Home fries were warm at best, completely flavorless, and don’t even get me started on the portion size. The hash that came out late was the only thing that was hot and it was served on a little side plate and was a dollop size at best. It did not look the least bit appealing at all-​it looked like flattened cat food that my grandmother forgot to scrape off the plate before putting in the sink. The French toast was rockhard and warm at best as well. it’s a good thing that this meal was after a long night out because we ended up consuming most of it anyway– because we were THAT hungry and already having the worst experience anyway. Drinks and coffees– never refilled. Never asked about how everything was until what we COULD stand to eat was gone. At the end of this when we had had enough– my friend’s mother went in to see about talking to a manager. The woman we spoke with was INCREDIBLY unprofessional and her response to our experience was «well you could see that we were busy, so it’s your own fault for coming here» SHE WAS BLAMING US for this absolutely horrible experience. She huffed and puffed outside on the sidewalk near our table and cuts «mom» off from talking and throws her guest check book on the table and says to her «just tell me everything on the bill that wasn’t eaten» EXCUSE ME?! Ugh!
If you have made it this far into this review, I am so sorry LOL I am re-​fumed about what happened yesterday and am on fire. Basic summary-don’t go there, don’t eat there, and save yourself the trouble – don’t suggest it!
IF I could give this place NO STARS– I would have. Save yourself the trouble– unless management, server staff, and kitchen staff have been changed DO NOT GO THERE.

Although well intentioned, this restaurant really struggles. The service here is glacially slow, and the food is poor. But what do you expect for beach food?

I stayed at the Waves Resort on property. We ate here everyday of our vacation for breakfast. I have nothing but positive experiences of those mornings. We walked in like we owned the place, sat in the same booth and enjoyed a good cup of coffee and a delicious breakfast. Staff was friendly and the service was quick. I was a big fan of the omelettes.

We went here today because it was close to where we were staying. Please go somewhere else. The breakfast is ok. We were seated but it took about 30 minutes for the waiter to come to our table. We got the drinks pretty fast. But the actual waitress took forever. Then ok né of the orders came with toast and we never got it! Horrible service. Save your money and go somewhere that is better food and treats you better.

Skip this place. If you’re looking to wait 45 mins for over-​salted corned beef hash then this place is for you. All the food is served on paper plates. The ‘restaurant’ isn’t properly ventilated so the overwhelming smell of smoke will be all that you remember when you leave. Food carts sell better quality food than this place. Disgusting.

We went to breakfast here this morning and were super disappointed! We walked in and were not acknowledged by the hostess, who was texting. We were told to seat ourselves but 5 out of the 7 available booths were filthy (covered in other people’s dirty dishes).
Once seated we waited for almost 10 minutes before getting up and getting our own menus. Service was slow and forgetful. The hash browns were so hard that they couldn’t be stabbed with our forks. I honestly don’t know how you screw up breakfast, but they managed to do it. The employees had a general «we don’t give a sh*t» attitude and nobody seemed to be in charge. Bummed out and we will not be returning.

If you are looking for a traditional breakfast, this is a great little place. The staff were friendly, and I was surprised at how quickly we were served with how busy it was. We both had the breakfast sandwich — which hit the spot. What struck me was how hot our food was. Typically I expect the food to sit, but not here!

Friday morning, place almost full. I asked if I could have breakfast to go? Of course, coming right up, was the words she used after I ordered and paid. After three minutes she gives me my 2 coffees, and then says: «the rest will take about 30 minutes». ??? Am I supposed to stand and wait (with the coffee getting cold) for 30 minutes? And I ordered toast!
Never coming back.

Disappointing, frustrating and maddening experience. SLOW, inattentive, obnoxious waiter. If you’re short staffed tell customers in advance and give them an opportunity to go elsewhere. Don’t make it our problem. A 40 minute wait for cold and rubbery home fries and lukewarm eggs is unacceptable. We waited 15 mins for coffee and juice; then had to scout around other tables to locate spoons and creamers. All the while watching them fill seats and ignore those people, too. Our waiter then capped off this lackluster breakfast with a comment about tip not being included! He was lucky to have been facing 7 well brought up women! Lets just say we won’t be going back any time soon.

This is a nice little breakfast place for those seeking to avoid the tourist traps on Old Orchard St. The staff is very courteous and friendly, and the chef came to the table to make sure we liked the food.
We ordered two portions of «The Cure» — shaved prime rib on a roll with a side of potatoes. The dish includes a beer, and they had a decent mix of regular and seasonal beers to choose from. The sandwich itself was very generously sized and fit our needs for a decadent breakfast. Everything tasted great.
Highly recommended!

Went to beach street café today for breakfast and it was a horrible experience. First they had no ice for our drinks because they ran out and don’t have an ice maker. Then they were out of corned beef hash and strawberries. We waited a long time for our food and in the meantime watched others send theirs back because the order was wrong or bad. Finally we got our food and my eggs Benedict was poached hard not per my request. The only thing they didn’t mess up was the French toast… Because it wasn’t burnt. Would not suggest this place to anyone.
