Came with a friend from pretty far off to check out the lake. The scenic trail was well-paved, and you could see super far. It was especially cool seeing all the thunderstorms in the distance. In terms of the lake itself, there’s quite a bit of marsh between you and the lake proper. It also doesn’t seem to have a clear shore, so it’s not as exciting to see from the scenic trail. I think it would have been better to be on the lake in a boat. Overall, I think it’s a nice stop to stretch your legs if you are in the area, but I wouldn’t come specifically just for the lake. Be sure to check the right maps online, as it can be hard to find the trail entrances from the road.

The Big O. or, as the Hitichi named it, ‘Big Water’.Lake Okeechobi is a 6000 year old lake born out of the receding ocean. The biggest fresh water lake in Florida, seventh in the U.S. it is amazingly shallow with average depths of between 9 – 13 feet although heavy rain has caused the lake to become as deep as 20 feet.
