Had a really bad experience. Service poor and got attitude from the management when we wanted yo leave. We were on the rooftop deck. Drinks were served and then waited over 45 minutes and waiter never came back. When I went to the manager to cancel our dinner and to pay for our drinks, I was told we had to pay for the entire meal(even though we never were served). As a local to Ogunquit, we found out that we are not the only ones who have had similar experiences. There are a lot of wonderful restaurants to choose from. Don’t waist your vacation time being treated poorly.

After reading some of the reviews my wife and I were excited to try Gyspsy Sweethearts. We both ordered the lobster salad after the waiter talked it up. Unfortunately it was more like a plate of arugula and cherry tomatos with a minuscule amount of lobster claw pieces on it… and frankly, saying minuscule is being generous. Really quite inexcusable for the price. It’s Maine… give me lobster!

I love this place! We go here every time we are in town. Food is delicious and omg they have the best margaritas ever! They do their own margarita mix and it’s the best one I tried. Lobster bisque is not in the menu but they have it as special very often. Their special tuna is always delicious too. Favorite item from regular menu is shrimp margarita. I love that portions are small so it’s always room for desert. They have amazing crème brûlée!

Very enjoyable food and dining experience. Pricey so we didn’t indulge too much but was definitely worth it for the gnocci, grilled romaine salad and also a chicken dish that was really good but as this was last summer I cant recall exactly the name of it. I am adding this review belatedly because I haven’t been on Unilocal for a while and by chance was reminded of our time there while using Unilocal to help us plan our next set of food adventures and realized it would be a shame not to add more stars to their roster. We so enjoyed our experience here last summer that we will come to Ogunquit for the sole purpose of having another great meal here while en route to the less developed areas east of Bar Harbor.

The expectations for this restaurant and reviews had me believing the meal was going to be much better. The waiter disappeared and we waited forever for him to return — I know we are late in the season and they must have been understaffed but waiting in what are probably the most uncomfortable chairs for him to return was excruciating. The waiter was nice but definitely overworked and I think the bartender was forced to do double duty. The Margarita was strange tasting and if there was alcohol in the drink I would be amazed. I ordered the rack of lamb and my boyfriend got the pork shank. The meals looked nice and the lamb was good but the pork was way too spicy despite requesting it be mild. It took well over 45 min to be served and another 15 min to get our check and we are on 10 min waiting for the waiter to take our credit card. As the old song goes goes — ‘…will he ever return, no he’ll never return, and his fate is still unknown…’!

I can’t believe this place. I had a lobster bisque that was amazing. They also had an onion date soup that was terrific. I always love coming here. I’ve never had a mediocre meal here.

Many people overlook Gypsys on the Ogunquit dining scene– that would be a big mistake. I have eaten there many times throughout the years, and have without exception had excellent food and warm, genuine service. This is a true family owned/run restaurant and the ambiance is cozy and relaxing. Love the upstairs lounge, and in good weather the deck and garden dining. Perfect for both a date and a place to meet up with friends in an intimate setting. We have also celebrated many family milestones here, and the staff always goes out of their way to make the experience special. All of the salads are out of this world, my favorite is the great hill blue cheese, date, and toasted almonds on greens. The duck confit small plate with sauerkraut is phenomenal, as is the lobster ceviche. One thing which I really appreciate too is that gluten free options are indicted, and there is much to choose from. The polenta roasted vegetable stack is also fabulous for vegetarians. You can really bring anyone here and they will find something special and satisfying on the menu. Creative and well presented cocktails, and an intriguing wine list for all price points. A true gem of a restaurant.

What can I say, I loved this place. Had dinner here the other night for my birthday. We weer fortunate to get a table without a reservation.(I would suggest making a reservation). The atmosphere is very nice and cozy. The staff were very pleasant. We had Tapas and it was so good. Started with the roasted portabello and warm buffalo chicken dip. Both were amazing. Next we had the Great Hill Blue cheese salad and that was so delicous. We finished up dinner with the Gnocchi, Lobster sliders and crab cakes. The food just kept getting better. For dessert we had Marscapon chocolate cake and a cinnamon, apple crumble. A great way to finish off a great meal. This place is a must try.

Randomly found this place while looking for dinner and drinks pre– musical at the Ogunquit Playhouse. Super cute outdoor seating area in front with pretty flowers, twinkle lights, candles, and water feature. Lots of great people watching and close proximity to the playhouse were a plus. There were also stand up heaters to keep the chill off. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful with suggestions. I chose to start with the Elder Margarita and was not disapointed! It was so good I had 2 and could have had several more!(St. Germain Elderflower Liquer, house made sour mix, and teguila. Complimentary bread was brought to the table– soft and delicious. We chose to do several small plates and they were all fabulous. 1. Steamed mussels in white wine, shallots, spices, and asiago cheese. $ 11.50(large mussels, good sized portion, delicious broth) 2. potato gnocchi with spinach, walnuts, gorgonzola, and panchetta. $ 11.50(these were little pillow of buttery goodness from heaven– get them and you wont regret it) 3. grilled skewer of sea scallops with roasted garlic aioli $ 12.00(cooked perfectly but only came with 3 and and they were fairly small– 3 small pieces of red pepper where also included) 4. grilled local goat cheese with basalmic reduction and crostini $ 9.00(delicious — highly recommend). We chose the ginger crème brûlée to finish our meal and was slightly underwhelmed with the result. It wasn’t terrible but definelty not the best crème brûlée I have ever had. Overall, the romatic ambiance, yummy small plates, location, and great service made it 5 stars for me! I loved the place and plan to go back. :)

Wow! After months of bad restaurants we hit thee restaurant that gave us the best meal we have had in several years. Almond Crusted Haddock, Steak, and Bone in Buffalo Pork were all outstanding. These could get no better. They were cooked to perfection. When your 12 year old hoards his food and steals off your plate you know they got something good going. So good we booked for tomorrow night too. It was easily 5 star good and yes we have eaten at 5 star restaurants. My son said if they weren’t 5 stars he would find the reviewer and beat the remaining stars out of them. A little aggressive but given the excellent meal I can understand his exuberance.

The happy hour special was great. Two margaritas with chips and salsa. We then ordered the Mexican corn and lobster tacos and more drinks. I agree with other reviewers that the taco shell is at best a «mystery shell». Having just returned from Hermosillo Sonora Mexico I may be a tad on the snobby side when it comes to tacos burritos etc. The lobster concoction was excellent and enjoyed these. The me I am corn was amazing. Bursting with moisture and flavor it was a real treat. The service was acceptable but not great. There was one server for seven very busy tables outside in the garden. I don’t blame the server here. He needed some assistance and management should have helped him out. Sorry for being lazy here, wanted to post something here(if I don’t do it now it would not happen). Cheers!

Oh Gypsy Sweethearts, our love was short and fleeting. The first time I came here the food was AMAZING, server was prompt, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and we had a great experience. But then that all changed on our second trip. We came here again when we found ourselves in Portland last weekend and realized we would be driving right by Ogunquit on our way home. I was so excited for round two of the amazing meal I had before, and was so disappointed when that did not happen at all. A few tips if you decide to brave the waters of Gypsy Sweethearts: 1. Drink. Drink a lot. Because if you’re drinking a lot, your server will basically sit at your table with you to ensure that you are getting prompt refills, to see if you need anything else, and to offer to feed you your food. If you’re like us and just drinking soda and water(because you’re about to drive two hours home) then good luck even getting your server to make eye contact with you. And when he finally does come over and you simply ask for a dessert menu, he will act as though you just asked him to procure the Hope Diamond out of his rectum. 2. Don’t order the lobster tacos. I don’t really know what they put in the tortilla, but all I know is that tortillas aren’t supposed to(a) crumble and(b) smell like lavender. The filling of the lobster tacos is delicious, but is totally masked by the potpourri cakes(I can’t even call them tortillas for fear of dishonoring actual tortillas). 3. If you sit outside in the garden(which it’s fair to mention is beautiful), wear bug spray. Because heaven forbid that they put out a few discretely placed citronella candles, or any type of mosquito repellants. If you contract West Nile after sitting out in their garden, you know why. 4. Loud children and drunk people. Loud children and drunk people as far as the eye can see. Another thing worth mentioning is when the bus boy came to clear our table, he asked us if we were having dessert. I told him yes, and he replied, «oh, well then you may want to hang onto your fork.» Excuse me? The fork with which I just ate dinner? Is your dishwasher broken? Do you have a shortage of utensils? And not to sound like a snob, but I’m pretty sure that dessert was not meant to be consumed with a clunky dinner fork. Luckily our server brought dessert forks with our dessert(a half hour later, after he had finished wiping the mouths of the table next to us that was four cocktails in). Oh, and our table didn’t even get table bread. Every other table did, but again, since our cocktails were«Diet Coke with a lime wedge», I guess we peasants weren’t quite good enough for table bread.

Came here for dinner while on vacation. We heard good reviews about Gypsy Sweethearts, and were interested in trying it out. The ambiance is very cute, and the servers were friendly. I was a little disappointed with the menu options, as it is kind of limited. We ordered the Lobster Tacos(fantastic), Cheeseburger(Okay), Crabcakes(I’d order something else next time), Shrimp(Excellent). I might come back again, but it’s worth a try if you’re in Ogunquit!

My wife and I chose this place to dine at the spur of the moment, since the other two places we picked as possibilities were either empty or rancid looking — at least from the outside — and also no place to park. The Gypsy Sweethearts had their own private parking lot, and a very interesting but somewhat limited menu. The both of us had one glass of wine each, and then two items on their menu, each with a salad, but no desert. The portions were average, but the dish that I had(chopped beef steak with fries) had to be warmed up after it was first served. Other than that, the service was fine, and the intimate ambiance was above average. We sat by a window facing the side street and since it was raining, it had a very unique atmospheric view at the time. I should mention that the noise level was way down — so be careful, you folks who have loud voices — you can be heard!!! The prices, on the other hand, could have been lower, but I guess that’s not the case since this place was located in the heart of Ogunquit which was packed with tourists(including us!) everywhere you looked. We were lucky in that we did not have reservations but yet were seated immediately — a potential sign that this place was not doing so well, but as we finished our dinner, we noticed that the place was pretty occupied with lots of diners. Would we go here again? Perhaps!

We were in Ogunquit for a bachelorette weekend and 6 of us girls went out to dinner to start off the night. I made a res… which was no problem at all. We started off with drinks and a few tapas to split. Grilled goat cheese was excellent. Gnocchi was pretty good. One girl got the grilled caesar salad which she liked. Drinks were tasty… a round of Typsy Gypsies all around! After splitting tapas and the table bread… we decided to go for the small plate fare for entrees… raves about the burgers. The crab cakes were very tasty, I only wish there were one more on the plate. The atmosphere was nice… cozy and different in an old house… cobalt blue stemware, candles on the table… very pretty and would be nice for a date night. It was not super busy(which I didn’t know how to take at first) but we were happy with our food and the server was very nice. Attentive but not rushing in any way. there’s a small lot in the back for parking, but it’s also easily walkable from the large lot at the beach a couple blocks away.

Wasted about $ 75 on three tapas and 4 drinks. Totally disappointed. I go to Ogunquit a lot and I often eat in the same places, because I’ve been burned too many times trying a new place. This was one of those times. The food was pretty good, but the experience was so bad that I would not go back and spend my money there again. The service and atmosphere were awful. We were seated on the upstairs deck which sounds like a good idea. However, our table was next to the door and the whole floor shook when people walk on it. The whole time everything on our table was shaking. It was like eating on a train. I was putting things under the plates so they would stop rattling. The atmosphere was really bland — no music, unless you consider the small child running around and singing Spiderman at the top if his lungs entertainment. It was really obnoxious. We ordered top shelf margaritas and they were so-so. Our server spent most of the time inside at the bar washing glasses, so maybe he really wasn’t a server and was filling in for a server who didn’t show up. We ordered some tapas and our glasses were empty through most of it. Finally the guy came back and we ordered a couple of beers. We decided to pack it in and left to have the rest of our meal at another restaurant that was excellent. Another couple near us were turned off for the same reasons and left as well. It’s probably a better experience if you sit in the garden or on the porch, but after wasting my money, I can’t really think of a reason why I would risk it again.

Yup, I did it. One sad star. One very sad star, only given because the staff was very nice. I really hate to give bad reviews, but I have to be honest. I have NO idea what these other people are reviewing, but I cannot believe it is the same place. Are they real Unilocalers? Friends of the owner? I do not know. I will keep it quick– like removing a bandaid. I am fairly certain my food was microwaved. No joke. The fish that my friend got was so horrible– I told her to stop eating it for fear that she would become ill. It looked like those pre-seared tuna steaks. Brown/grey throughout the cut… smelled like it had turned and was COVERED in some sort of remoulade that likely was used to cover the badness of the fish. My chicken tasted really good– but I am 99.9% sure the glaze was that red Ah-So chili glaze in bulk. The rice on both plates tasted and felt like boil-in-bags. I have been known to enjoy EXTREMELY manufactured food… like McDonalds and TGI Fridays… so I know MSG and plastic when I taste it. Our margaritas tasted like sour mix. And not even GOOD sour mix. really really bad sour mix. I asked for another shot of tequila and another shot of triple sec. Adding these did nothing. I never drop this annoying bomb in reviews– because i think it is pretentious… but I’m a freakin bartender and am very forgiving of other barstaff… but these drinks were genuinely horrible. There is no other way to describe them. The one good note here is that the staff was VERY friendly– and very accommodating. I have no issues with the staff– they were truly lovely people. In summary, the food and drinks were so completely abysmal, that I have to say something in a public forum… or I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. We left the place cursing Unilocal and doubting reality. We then promptly drank at least 4 more drinks to try to decrease the odds of becoming ill.(this actually works– empirically backed) If you are going for a glass of wine or a beer– knock yourself out. But do NOT go for the food. heartbreaking.

I’ve dined here about 5 times over the last two years. Love Gypsey Sweethearts. It’s settles in a small old house and love these types of restaurants because it just adds character. I’ve had the haddock and scallops here before and they both have been delicious. Reservations recommended on busy fri-sat nights and holiday weekends. I’ve also eaten outside on the patio and that was great too. Able to waterhole watch as we ate. Wish more places in Ogunquit offered outside dining. Bottom line I would recommend a visit if you have not been before.

we barely squeezed in before closing time, who knew restaurants closed so early, especially on a friday night. I think we got there at 8:30? The service was a bit lacking for a full service restaurant. Our waiter acted as though it was his first day on the job, very nervous. I got two appetizers — the gnocchi was Fabulous, practically licked the bowl. The portobello mushrooms on the other hand were awful. Tasted like I was eating a flavorless small pizza… but the gnocchi was wonderful… :) He got the Haddock, it took up the whole dinner plate, but don’t worry we managed to finish it — the pecan crust was perfect as was the Haddock. Would definitely recommend this. The au gratins that came with it on the other had are nothing to write home to mom about. So, my two cents… they are hit-miss, some items they do REALLY well and others not so much. Would definitely go back for the gnocchi and Haddock
