Honestly this place is great for movie rentals. You can rent a movie(old to almost recent) for $ 1 a week, no credit card needed which is a great plus for me seeing I don’t use a credit card, also if you return the DVD one day after you rent it, you get 51 cents credit in store! So at that rate you can rent two movies at the same price as Redbox, but get your third rental free! And on top of that there is a much greater DVD selection, only downfall is that new releases can be rented at a slightly higher rate, but I’m ok with that, especially because their movie selection is humongous. A++ from me! Hastings is great, and this review is only about the DVD rental aspect of the business, the rest is pretty sweet too! PS I know a lot of the negativity regarding this store is that they don’t give refunds, but the employees and the receipts make it very clear that they can only exchange products or give in store credit, so make sure you understand the rules when making a purchase anywhere!

Went into hastings today to purchase a turntable. Mission accomplished. Brought said«brand new» turntable home. Opened the package wire ties missing, looked like it been opened before. Went to play the new record I purchased with the turntable. Skipped liked a school girl who just got her first kiss. Random and clumpsy. The record was brand new, dust free, straight and free of scratches. Shouldn’t skip a beat Go back to hastings to return the turntable, which was a previously used item before my purchasing and sold as new. Was informed by the sales clerk, they can’t give refunds for opened products. I told her it was opened previous to my purchasing it and she didn’t believe me. Asked to talk to the manager. She reaffirmed the clerks opinion and treated me like I was trying to screw hastings over. When I was the one being(insert appropriate swear word here) in the situation. Shame on hastings for selling electronic equipment that was previously returned, as new. Then refusing customers refunds when they bring it back for that reason. They will never receive one cent from me every again.

I love the store and it’s selection of goods, BUT the customer service of the employees is mediocre. When I approached 3 employees at an information booth for help finding an item, none of them looked up when I asked for help. One didn’t even look at me as he told me he was busy and walked away. Then another spared me a glance and warily answered that they were out of stock. He did not offer further assistance but continued about his work as if he was done with me. I had to keep asking questions to finally find out that the item was in stock at a different location. My suggestion, know what you are looking for, because the employees are just as willing to help you as a toddler getting a cavity filled.

I know, I know… it’s a chain. But something about this place feels«local» and I enjoy shopping here. They relish in long-forgotten gems like movie rentals, actually stocking DVDs and music(they won’t drag you to online ordering here) and a plethora of geek toys. I don’t mean geek toys in a bad way either. This place makes me long for a better time. When MTV showed actual videos. When you didn’t have to stand in line at a box painted red to rent movies. When you could actually rent movies that were older. It makes me miss vinyl, and record stores. Probably the best thing about this place are the employees that seem to like their jobs and love to help you. They can talk about music, DVDs, movies, those geeky toys, and everything under the sun that has been lost to an internet world or a sterile environment where the buy may not really be «best.» One of two locations left in Utah and definitely worth a drive up.
