Went based solely on reviews and wasn’t disappointed. This cute restaurant is small but mighty! Ate the Naveyaki Udon as recommended by another Unilocaler, I dislike Udon but really enjoyed theirs. Very authentic experience. Food was fast and delicious. Dessert was sent out incorrectly but the owners don’t speak a lot of English so it was hard to communicate exactly what we wanted but the couple was so cute. No way they could accommodate a large party. Also keep in mind a lot of what they do is based on self service and self bussing. This is a small business with little staff, the self bussing and service didn’t bother me, it made the experience more efficient, which is probably why food came out so quick. Would have loved to post photos but was eager to try everything and didn’t get the chance to take pictures.

This place is so awesome. Best authentic Japanese food in the state, and the owners/staff are top notch. Go here. You will be glad you did.

Love going here for delicious ramen on Saturdays! Friendly staff and a good place to go with friends.

It is a small place and groups larger than four will be a challenge. Parking is also a challenge. Rather than ordering to a server, you write it down on a pre-printed form. There, I got all of the quirks out of the way. Now let’s talk about the food. ‘Cuz if the food is good enough I will low crawl over broken glass to get to it. I have only been there tonight, so I cannot comment on the entire menu. Everything was reasonably priced. The sushi was quite good. It isn’t a large sushi menu… but it ain’t a sushi restaurant either. I had the agedashi tofu which was pretty standard(which still means good). I didn’t try the gyozas, but the people I was with liked them. The tempura was excellent. We had noodle bowls, one soba and one udon. Both were excellent as was the broth. We didn’t get desserts. Normally I would end my review here. I want to comment on the sukiyaki which I ordered. I have not had it that good in 30 years. If for nothing else, I will return for the sukiyaki.

I finally found an authentic Japanese restaurant here in Ogden. This will probably be my new go-to place when I crave for Japanese food! I ordered my favorites; salmon sashimi, gyoza, sukiyaki. I shared this with my husband and we were both so full. I wouldn’t mind paying. Little more to taste authenticity.

It’s good to know this restaurant is run by Japanese. We came here because of the ramen noodles, however, when we arrived, they did not have ramen on their menu. I was a bit disappointed. My wife did not waste time and went crazy ordering a bunch of dishes and sushi with only 3 of us dining but could be for a party of 7. The udon and soba noodles soups were delicious along with their perfect tasty cooked broth. The Katsu chicken curry rice was ok. The sauce was a bit bland and it was missing strong curry taste to it. The sushi we ordered was good except for the nigiri tuna which tasted fishy. All and all, I would definitely come back again and try out the other items. Note that this is a small place so be sure to call in first before you head out to the restaurant. It only seats four tables of four and three at the bar.

As a college kid going to weber state, I was introduced to this restaurant by many of the international students I hang out with. I was immediately hooked after the first visit and now make weekly visits to the restaurant. However, I marked 4 stars because having to order yourself and do everything yourself besides the cooking is inconvenient. Other than that this place is a true gem of Ogden and should be treated as such.

Very disappointed with the meal. I ordered beef curry and it was a gelatinous glob of brown sauce with two tiny strands of beef which I had to search for. The rice had the consistency of oatmeal. There is no chewing with this meal– it could be served to a baby or a toothless person. The small salad it came with was okay. The tuna in the sushi roll was not a normal color. My son had a noodle dish which was not substantial at all– although he said the broth was good. While the place is clean, it’s more cafeteria style food and service than restaurant.

Got there during early lunch hour. We started with tempura shrimp. Really good, big shrimp. I then had soba with tempura shrimp and my daughter had udon beef soup. She’s a picky eater but she loved it! Great atmosphere. I will come back and back and back again!

The food here is delicious. I would recommend this gem to anyone looking for authentic Japanese food. I have not had their sushi as I have been way too preoccupied with their other dishes!

I’m in town for work and found this place on Unilocal.Small restaurant just off the main road. Inside and out, the place has a warm welcoming feel(the Studio Ghibli soundtrack playing in the background was really nice). I was looking forward to trying the Katsu curry, but they were out of curry by the time we got there. I was a little disappointed, but my friend and I ordered a bunch of different things to share. Everything we ordered was fantastic! The tempura was delicious and perfectly cooked. The sashimi was fresh and just melted when eaten. The curry dipping sauce for the tempura was great. The owners are wonderfully friendly and charming. I love this place. Only problem with Hanamaru is it’s not closer to home. I’ll definitely be back before I leave.

Possibly the best ramen place in Utah. Wonderful broth, chewy noodles, and decent toppings. They only have ramen on Saturday for lunch, so make sure you get there before they run out of broth. Service is super polite and adorable, too! I’ve never had anything other than their ramen(of which I’ve eaten several times), but my friend doesn’t seem to think their other items are worth coming over and over again for.

My wife and I were told by some good friends to try this place. It did not disappoint with the flavors of their food. Highly recommend that you make a reservation especially for weekends because of limited seating. Nice ambiance and very clean.

This is one of Ogden’s hidden gems. The food is prepared with skill and care in the kitchen right next to the patrons and in full view, and is served as soon as it’s been cooked, fresh and hot. No heat lamps here! The sushi rolls are outstanding — full of flavor and no skimping on ingredients. It’s a small, intimate place, so it’s probably a good idea to leave the kids at home this time. Prices are reasonable, so treating your significant other to a really good dinner doesn’t break the bank. Do yourself a favor and try Hanamaru!

Best Japanese in all of Utah! Intimate dining experience. Call ahead for a reservation and leave children at home. Very clean and tastefully decorated. The staff were super friendly. We completely enjoyed our dinner. We loved the Tonkatsu. It was moist and beyond tender. Incredible! Calamari was perfect, but the tempura with curry sauce was the show stopper! The curry came out steamy hot and was perfect for dipping the tempura. You will definitely double dip! Spicy Tuna Roll and Dragon Rolls were excellent. They wear heavy handed with the salmon. No skimping here. We have a new favorite place!

This is a great little place(emphasis on little). Seating Max is 22 so get there early. The fried calamari was excellent(large strips, not small circles). Had a playboy roll and the tuna was very fresh. We also had the potato crocket which is basically a thick hashbrown with sauce, but way better. I would order two! Service was a bit slow, but there was a group of 10 next to us so I understand the demand on the server. Overall, this was a great experience and I will definitely come back.

Finding a real-deal mom & pop restaurant serving up authentic Japanese soul food in Ogden, UT was quite the pleasant surprise. The sushi and sashimi were both excellent. Also liked the shabu-shabu, katsu curry, and korokke(two different visits). Restaurant is simplistic and stylish in the Japanese sense, yet also clean and contemporary. Prices are very reasonable. Small, might hold 20 people tops. The parking lot is smaller still. If it’s busy you’ll have to be patient with your service expectations as it’s just a husband and wife team running the whole show. In general the focus is more on the food, which I personally can appreciate. Highly recommended for washoku lovers. My only disappointed was the lack of shochu and nihonshu, which would compliment the food perfectly. It’s likely the only thing that keeps this place from being packed all the time. Would be quite the rocking izakaya if alcohol was on the menu. Note1: 2 years prior they were located across the street in a larger establishment, might keep this in mind for reviews and pictures posted before Aug. 2012. Note2: they also offer washoku cooking classes. I so wish this place was in the Dallas metroplex. I envy Ogden!
