Big Jim believes in Big Burgers. In the Utah tradition of high caloric intake of burgers and fries, our friend Jimmy does it right. Burgers piled high with other kinds of tasty animal like bacon and pastrami. Throw a slab of cheese on it so the grease has some companionship as it runs down your shirt. You really should order the lettuce, onion, and tomato on your sandwich to ensure you get a little vegetable in your diet. And then there are the fries… like the burgers Jim does them up big. Fat fries hot out of the oil served with the Utah Nectar of the Gods: Fry sauce. Combo meals are confusing here and even with an abacus I can’t decipher how they come up with the prices but trust you will get a ton of food in a combo even though you won’t know the price until your order is complete. Drinks require a monster cup holder and I am pretty sure the«large» is just this side of a gallon. A medium will do you just fine so save the pennies for extra fry sauce. You want healthy? This isn’t it. You want a dainty little sandwich you can eat while you drive? Nope. Here’s what you get: messy, greasy, hot, tasty goodness. A burger you will be tasting for hours and washing out of your clothes for weeks. Fries the size of Lincoln Logs and enough Diet soda to fill a reservoir. Enjoy!

This place is pretty close to me so I go there every now and then. Food? I give it 5 stars. I love their burgers. I love their gyros and they have great fries. Prices? Too high for a fast food joint. Service? Quite unpleasant. The short older lady with the black hair that usually is at the counter is not pleasant. She never smiles. She looks like that’s the last place on earth she wants to be. Her expression gets even meaner if all you have is a $ 20 and you say no when she asks if you have change. If this place had slightly better prices and counter help that could at least pretend to be friendly I’d give it a 5. It’s not fun to walk into a place where they looked like they’re pissed that you came in. Perhaps that’s why it’s usually completely empty, at least in the daytime when I’ve been there.

I have searched high and low, using Unilocal reviews as my guide for fish and chips in both Portland and Seattle. I still haven’t found anything that comes close to Big Jims. They also ride the line between fast food and a restaurant really well. I love this place.

I’m sorry for all the other poor reviews but dang! We love this place! Just get the ribeye sandwich! I watched the lady prepare it. I saw how she pounded it out and prepared it! It is fabulous. Onion rings and fries are excellent. Drinks awesome! Burgers fantastic! So here is the thing people… ya know that this place is the same as Crown burger which received rave reviews on Unilocal?Right? Same menu. Same family. Everything. There is another restaurant in Farr West I believe that is the same family with the same menu. It may be pricey but I’m all about that rib-eye sandwich and crown burger! My mouth is watering now! So so good!

The food was ok. For the price I paid I was expecting more. The fries were very lightly salted. The mushroom burger was good, but the mushrooms were canned and large chunks of raw onion not my fav. Strawberry milkshake was just vanilla with syrup mixed together. I can taste the syrup. I will go try other things only because it’s walking distance from my apartment. Have to add the person who took my order didn’t have a price ready for me at drive thru. Had to re ask me my order to double check and give me an amount owed. She knew what I had ordered at least. Menu doesn’t tell you what they offer drink wise. Also fry sauce was good, but not enough to dip all the fries in it. Next time ask for extra fry sauce.

The best thing about this place is the exit sign you see as you walk out. Any place that has couches in a fast food restaurant is a no-no. Burgers are 8.99 for a combo and the beef pattie is so thin, it looks like it came from a discount grocer. the burger patties at Costco are bigger. Condiments are very very minimal and not worth your time. The place was extremely empty when i walked in at 3pm on a Friday. There is fruit sitting on the trash can case so customers can take one. nasty. Four words for the wise: DONOTEATHERE!

Wish I had read reviews before we went here. Cheese fries? 2 slices of American cheese on top of a plate of fries. So gross. I had a flavorless gyro — just the meat(not convinced it was lamb), lots of red onions, and some super bland tzatziki sauce. Oh, and in a burned wheat pita. My husband thought his burger was okay. (And I should mention — this place can’t seem to decide what it is. Is it middle eastern? Mexican?(Fried ice cream was on the menu — if my gyro hadn’t been so terrible, I might have tried it.) A burger joint? They’d be better off if they picked one and stuck to it.)

Love their souvlaki plate. Their chai tea is decent as well. They offer a WSU discount for students.

The place looks great on the outside. And, that’s pretty much all it has going for it. Thin meat patties, commercial grade buns and worker’s behind the counter that hate their jobs.

The burger was quite thin, but tasty and not overcooked. HOWEVER… and you knew there was going to be one of those: If you advertise a Mushroom Burger, please, please, PLEASE use real mushrooms and not canned mushrooms. Seriously — we CAN tell the difference!

I’ve eaten here once and once was one too many times! My husband had a burger, which he didn’t care for. I had chili fries, which were really gross! Who puts American cheese on chili fries? Big Jim does! Yuck! I don’t know how they stay in business with the mediocre food and the high prices.

Big Jim’s enjoys a local reputation for its burgers. They are pretty delicious but I consider them WAAAAY overpriced for what you get. In this area, spending $ 9 for a burger lunch is a rip off. And, hey, don’t give me wimpy-tasting fry sauce if you’re gonna be in the Utah burger joint scene, especially if you’re gonna charge this much! Perhaps Big Jim’s charges so much because they overbuilt this HUUUUGE building for, well, a burger joint? Is there someplace in the world where going out for a burger meal is a destination? Perhaps in Greece? That’s Greece, not grease. While the Big Jim’s Burger name leads you to expect, well, American burgers, this is one of those Greek/Burger fusion restaurants like Apollo Burgers in Salt Lake. Lot’s of choices here, a huge menu, from burgers to chicken, to processed lamb gyros to souvlaki. Does that explain the need for a big building – a big menu? Admittedly, I don’t get the fusion. I may not be alone: this place is fairly empty every time I visit. I like restaurants that know what they do and do it well. Big Jim’s is a local Ogden burger«institution» I’m told, so maybe I’m in the minority here with the big question mark this place raises for me. Big Jim’s seems like good community business owners. They just could be better restaurateurs.
