This has to be one of the best place for the thickest ham with your breakfast! Oh, and the service is great! It’s a big breakfast, so come hungry!!!

Mom’s still at it. Still wakes up early to get ready for breakfast and start the soup. I spent a couple of weeks down here and learned a few things. 1. Don’t bother Mom when she is busy. She gets in the zone. 2. Show up early. If you show up late, there is something about small Texas places and running out of food and tables. 3. Don’t order bacon. 4. Wednesday is chicken fry steak day. Again get there early because she almost always runs out of mashed potatoes and will lock the place up when they run out. Sis no longer works there, but there are equally nice waitresses there helping out.

Ok This place is now a Favorite on my GPS. With 2 reviews, one from family of the owner, I had questions. After walking in, before even sitting down my doubts were answered. Good, real breakfast. Those of you who know me, I’m not a small guy, but this was enough to get me back to El Paso. If your looking for avant, or cool don’t bother. if your hungry come on in. Even with the rest of Odessa on Boom-town prices I was impressed that the $ 5 or so is still valid. Warning: it will look like your headed into a oilfield service junk yard until you see the big Smiley. I hope to be in the neighborhood some day for lunch.

I was traveling cross country with the family(which includes a toddler) and decided to stop here to eat based on the humor of the owner’s son in a previous review. We arrived at about 9:30am, and it took us about 10 minutes to make it to the north side of town from I-20. When we pulled up, I was tired from 7 hours on the road and said to the wife, «awww #$@#, what the !@#$ is this?!». Don’t be as quick as I was to judge this less than visually stunning little shack(that’s situated under a pole barn) by it’s cover. My wife made the call to stay and eat, so we did. Walking through the little bright green door, we were met by the kind waitress and easily found a place to sit. We watched as we waited and noticed that the waitress knew almost everyone in the place by name. Our order was taken quickly and we didn’t have to wait long before the food started showing up. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to enjoy the cooking of a southern grandmother, this is the place for you. Everything had copious amounts of butter added while it was being cooked and it was just like my southern grandmothers do it. Damn good. My wife considered herself lucky to have only ordered a «half order» of ham with her breakfast since it filled over half of the plate. Sitting at the table and looking around, Janie’s reminded me of several small farm town cafes that I’ve had the pleasure of visiting across the country. Often, they aren’t the cleanest, sharpest looking, or easiest to find, but they’re worth finding. Just look for the full parking lot. We filled up with good grub, paid our $ 10 tab and, as Joe R. suggested, left a $ 5 for the really nice waitress.
