China Mex

They used to take pride in their food, the used to have great service, they used to have decent prices. (drastic jump in a short time I might add) People jam in here everyday because China Mex «use to». They should of expanded the business instead of cutting corners and raising prices. My family ate there once a week, we have now stopped completely. Most of what you read here is true, hopefully the family that owns it will see and make changes. Sadly as long as they are making money, I don’t think they care.

This used to be my favorite place until I was in a really bad car accident after placing a to go order and called to cancel my order and they said I could never order again.

The Emperor’s Rice is the bomb ! This and some egg rolls. Tea could use some… well, some tea.

Some years ago, I used to think China Mex should expand to take advantage of their popularity; they opted to raise the prices instead. The food is still very good — never eaten a bad meal there. The Hot and Sour soup is probably the best in Odessa and the egg rolls are excellent — but not worth $ 8 for 4 small egg rolls. The Emperor Lo Mein IS excellent and not terribly overpriced. It is the appetizer/​drink sections of the menu they plan to retire on. Regarding to go orders — you can sit on hold ignored for 20 minutes if they are busy.

I was cautious about trying this place due to the name. Definitely different than the other Chinese offerings in Odessa. Their Emperor Lo Mein is to die for! Unfortunately they are not the most accurate when taking orders — never have I been able to get home with my take-​out without something either missing from the order or something being wrong (such as receiving fried rice instead of Lo Mein). Their hot & sour soup is unique — more of a Mexican flair than expected.

My favorite Shrimp, rice was burned, and served to us just like that (who eats burned smoked rice) And my
order was over charged!
The wait staff is so disrespectful, bad mood, dont ask for anything else!
Oh but when you get up to pay and leave the staff is like bye thank you! I’m like wtf. Where did that come from you huffed and puffed as I asked you for my order correctly!
I’m guessing the owner’s don’t care how there staff treat and act in front of paying customers that enjoyed there restaurant.

A couple of years ago this place was awesome. Now I’d rather eat out of a dumpster. The quality of food has gone way done. Just cause your making money doesn’t mean you should stop caring about what your food taste like. Way to oily and salty and definitely not worth the wait.

They went from $ 8.50 a plate to $ 12.50, SORRY No Stars for that, Food OK but way way too expensive for what it is.

Little hole in the place with great food. They are always packed with people trying to eat there. Hibachi steak with emporor fried rice is my favorite.

This place has the absolute most ignorant rudest staff I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with. It’s like they’re high all the time. You can never call in your order because they literally refuse to answer the phone most of the time. I’ve stood there waiting for my food and watched them ignore the phone. Tonight we called and called but only got the fax machine… Why you ask? Because they ran out of food! They tacked up a sign on the door at about 7 and called it a night. What the hell? Something’s stink there… This place is insane!

Expect to use up your entire lunch hour plus 30 more minutes. There is so much going on in the kitchen that you can see in the face or the servers that they are flustered and confused. The chicken lo mein is good but do not add soy sauce, it is already salty. Egg rolls were good and crunchy. Drink your beverage slow because even after an hour they won’t refill it for you because they are too busy with Togo orders and helping the dining room. The food is good but the service deserves a $ 1 tip. If you don’t get there by 11:30 am, go somewhere else because the seating area is very limited.

Ehh, it was so so so oily… but aside from that, I guesssss I can stand to eat this on a rainy day when I’m craving chinese food… I guesssss. :/

Great place!!! Great food!!! Big portions. And it’s cheep, it’s not the most amazing Chinese food I’ve had but it’s very good.

Went early for lunch and had to wait 50 minutes for our entrees. When we got there only two other tables were seated. Out of the three orders one was wrong and when I pointed it out to our server she argued with me and said she would have it remade. I asked to just have the item removed from our bill since I didn’t have time to wait. When she brought our ticket she once again had to show me what she had written down for my order. This place does not believe «the customer is always right». The food is usually good but the service is what will keep me away. Take your chances, I won’t be returning.

China Mex is awesome. Hot and sour soup is the best I’ve had in years and the pork fried rice is AMAZING! Little pricey for lunch, but they definitely don’t go stingy on the portions. One of my new favorites right off the bat.

This little place almost hidden on Andrews Hwy is very good. I’ve only ate here a couple of times so far and you really get a lot of food to go for the money. So the value and taste of the food is definitely great.

Good chinese, biggest portions, i would have given them 5 but my mom and daughter had to wait for food after we had been served, i dont blame place though because ALL restruants in Odessa-​Midland are shorthanded

Best Chinese food in odessa. Not a buffet but u always leave with a box of food. Great service. Not the best décor, but that’s not what this place is about. Very afordable good food.

The best thing I can say about this place is that they do cook the food to order and it is average tasting. The thing about it though is you lose your appetite when a roach crawls across the wall right next to your face, which is what happened to me! Also, it’s very crowded and uncomfortable in there. The drinks are gross tasting for some reason also! I do not recommend this place at all!

China Mex is one of the best hidden gems in Odessa. While it’s hours aren’t conducive to showing off their great food, it is an awesome place to go for lunch or order takeout for an evening in.
The food is delicious Americanized Chinese food that comes with all of the staples. One could argue that their fried rice is the best in Odessa, but it just depends on who is on their game at the time. China Mex is very consistent in their quality and the staff is always polite.
While I would not suggest coming here if you’re on a strict diet, I say throw caution to the wind and don’t let the outward appearance scare you off! China Mex will be one of your favorites in town, especially in the Chinese food category.
