Don’t waste your money in restaurants. You can’t buy fresher, tastier fish anywhere other than here. The fish is almost entirely locally caught; if it’s not local, the proprietor’s mantra is: «it may not be local, but our locals love it!» We used shrimp and flounder for a ceviche one night, shrimp with tuna steaks another, four bluefish filets for fish tacos on a third, and scallops/shrimps on couscous for a fourth. We were a very happy party of six that would have gone broke eating out. Go early(between 6−7am) and try to get in on the locals’ conversation on the dock behind the store!

Great selection, very informative and friendly to help with meal plans. I tried at least 5 kinds of fish I have never had and super fresh shrimp just caught. Good stuff !!

What an awesome place! Mrs. Patty was so charming, friendly, helpful, and full of knowledge. The prices were fantastic. We bought beautiful, fresh scallops that had just come in that day. We also picked up shrimp and local favorite, Drum. She gave us tips on preparation too. This is a «Don’t Miss» spot on the island!!!

Seafood right off the boat. Literally. This is the best way to support the local fisherpeople of Ocracoke and they are some of the nicest people you will meet on the East Coast. If you don’t know how to cook what you’re buying, just ask. Also, get a slice of the locally made fig cake — fantastic.

This place is fantastic! We were only in Ocracoke for the day but picked up some Red Drum and shrimp here to take back to Kitty Hawk. Honestly, it was probably the best fish I ever had. If you go to Ocracoke for a day trip, bring a cooler and stop by. They are incredibly friendly, helpful, and even provided us with some extra ice to keep the catch cold. Note that some of their catches are not commercially available… i.e. red drum which is a commercially protected fish, so definitely ask them for something different that you may not be able to get anywhere else. (We were helped by a recent college grad at the front desk who was absolutely awesome!)

Ocracoke is known for many things… for me, it’s all about the fishing. People come from all corners of the US to check out this tiny island. Any restaurant you visit will offer fresh, local caught seafood. Most of what you’ll get will be Blue fish or Spanish Mackeral… occasionaly Mahi. If you can’t get on a charter and catch it yourself, this is the next best option. Here you will find Red Snapper, Grouper, Wahoo, Cobia, Trigger and Tile fish. It will be fresh caught by locals. The past hurricanes have taken a toll on the local oyster beds but they are beginning to come back. Check out my photos of their selection and prices, quite impressive. Fishing is part of the history and heritage of Ocracoke. This is the last remaining Fish House and operates as a Co-Op for local fisherman. Check out:

The fish and shrimp can’t be any fresher. Buying here gives you two things, great seafood and knowing you are supporting a local buisiness and more importantly the waterman who catch it. Nothing taste better than fresh seafood. This trip we picked up Spanish mackerel and shrimp. Put them on the grill and they were awesome!

Simply fantastic. Shopping here has spoiled us for all other seafood. We buy fish here every day that we are in Ocracoke. We love the red drum, the wahoo, the mackerel, the bluefish, and especially the shrimp. And the local fig cake is to die for!

Have been coming here since Murray owned it. Fresh seafood, whatever is in season, right off the boats. Had fantastic bluefish today. The Seafood Company is a successful cooperative of local fishermen. A testament to innovative thinking in fisheries management and marketing. Wish that other NC fishing interests would see the potential in cooperatives and other inc

Yes! Go here and support the local fishermen. Everything is fresh and reasonably priced given the quality. The woman behind the counter was so nice to me and helped me to great shrimp for my jambalaya. Be aware that if there is some street festival or anything in the town going on, they can shut down whenever, so call ahead. It is one of the charms of being in Ocracoke that everyone supports everyone here!

I’ve been shopping here for a few years, whenever I come to Ocracoke. They have a great selection of fresh seafood, caught locally, and they can tell you what was caught where, and probably by whom.(We went in today and they had yellowfin tuna. I asked if it was caught locally and the extremely friendly woman behind the counter said, «No, it was caught off of Hatteras.» That’s 17 miles away.) Plus, the business supports the Ocracoke Working Watermen’s Association, and has been a driving force in keeping Ocracoke fishermen in business.
