I read older reviews(there are two Ocotillo Red Feathers here on Unilocal), and I had to laugh, bc the BATHROOM was GREAT, and we «rated» it the the best bathroom of our weekend out in the Anza Borrego area(before reading an earlier Unilocaler who said the Ba needed attention.) Anyway, so THAT is fixed and ready for all visitors ! LOL The feel of the whole place is both artsy(inspires investigation, thinking, discussion, and connection) and practical(provides condiments, sustenance, seating, ordering, feeding, toileting, etc.) The store/café is both feminine and masculine. Love it. Being a motorcyclist, and discovering Frank’s history and connection to my favorite bike shop(National City Motorcycles) made this a super visit. Oh! and the menu items and special requests we had where graciously handled by Frank and Debbie. Top notch. Top notch everything. Very reasonably priced. One sentimental note. This old gas station was a favorite stopping place for me in my travels over the last decade, and in a small way, I miss being able to sit on the concrete benches out front whilst parked under the old gas island cover. But, embrace the new! — We still did this, AND had a clean bathroom and super owners serving us yummy food in a moto-centric air conditioned«museum/general store» It rarely gets better than this.

The couple that owns this place are super thoughtful and welcoming. They made good food for a good price and it is clear they have taken a lot of time to decorate and clean the restaurant. I’m glad I stopped in little Ocotillo on my way to San Diego to eat at this hole in the wall gem.

I love this place because if you forgot something you needed for your desert trip, this place probably has it. They even have steak dinners by reservation on Fridays which the locals love and the steak is pretty good!

If you are looking for a great road side café this is your place, the quintessential«Diner, Dive in and Dive» — they have a short but sweet menu — one of the best Hot Dogs I have every had… from hamburgers to shaved ice on those HOT summer days in the desert. If you are driving down Interstate 8 it is definitely worth the stop.
