We had such high hopes for you, Fiesta Garibaldi. A name that is known for decent food, a location that is convenient to many, and a location that has seen a string of failed Irish Pubs brought back to life with bright colors, new signage, and some interior improvements. Then why do you let us down so? We ate lunch yesterday around 2pm. We found a very empty restaurant and bar, so we had high hopes that without others competing for our food’s time, we would have a great meal and some great drinks. We were sorely disappointed. The menu looks great with some decent choices and foregoes many of the combo platters of the other restaurants nearby. The drink menu is decent, although when I see things like«Blody Merry» on the menu and other miscues, I take note and give pause. The website has holdover language regarding their great steaks and prime rib and large beer list which is a holdover from the former tenant(O’Reiley’s Irish Pub). We ordered a house margarita, a margarita with Cuervo Gold, and a non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri. Of the bunch, the virgin drink won and tasted the best. Please, why do we have to use syrupy, crappy, iridescent mix in margaritas versus just some agave nectar or simple syrup plus some fresh lime juice. Strike one, bad drinks. At $ 5 and $ 7 respectively, not too cheap either. We ordered a combination platter with nachos, tamales, flautas, and quesadillas along with a quesadilla con rajas and some queso fundido with chorizo. The combo platter held the most hope to show what this new place was made of. What we got was a mess of half melted cheese over a handful of tortilla chips, some burnt flautas with charred meat inside, some tamales which were just OK, and some soggy quesadillas. The queso fundido was a greasy mess with more chorizo than cheese and with it being just lukewarm, it started to harden before we could dip a chip into it. The quesadilla con rojas had peppers, onions, and was done well and came with the normal rice and beans which were just average as well. The new layout does have an ice cream counter which will be nice in summer. The mexican fried ice cream for dessert was OK with more whipped cream than ice cream. The coating was good and tasted to be a combination of corn flakes and honey. Service was OK. Our server didn’t know the menu too well and even though we were the only table in the place, she didn’t appear often. When others came to the bar, it was nice to hear the owner talk about how this was his«second choice» of locations and he preferred another location that had many more«regular noon-time drinkers.» Not sure if he’s truly bought into this place as of yet. A location with potential, a local community looking for something good and close, and a name that has meant good food and drinks at other locations gave us uninspired food, lackluster drinks, and average service which equaled a huge miss in our book. Other than some chips and salsa or greasy, average food in a pinch, we won’t be back. Sad day… sad day indeed.
