Wag’s Liquor & Fine Cigars

I have lived in Oceanside for over 25 years, Wags… I used to come here often, while most of the guys that work here are nice and friendly, ie. Alex, the owner or the one who acts like the owner is a complete DICK. When I see that he is working, I give a big sigh, and dread dealing with this guy, he is totally rude and always acts like a prick and for this I will not spend my money in this place. Sure, there is a decent selection of Craft beers and a little cigar humidor, however, they don’t carry any decent snacks for when the munchies hit.
I’m sure all of these 5 stars are for Alex, when he’s there the service is great, but, let’s face it, one man does not make a store…

Alex is awesome. He is the OG. No really. My family and I rented a beach house down the street and we have been here only 2 nights so far and have been twice already. Alex (behind the cash register) was fun, helpful, and nice. They have a big selection of craft beers, liquor, and cigars. Being that we are staying for 6 more nights We will be back.

Friendly, always with a smile. Nothing better than a neighborhood liquor store!

I love Wag’s. LOVE. I never knew you could love a liquor store quite so much.
It’s located about a block from my friend’s old place, so we would stumble over there regularly for PBR or Oly and smokes. Alex knew us all by name, and would not only have our cigarettes on the counter by the time we got there, but he would pack them for us too. What a gentleman!
I’ve moved a bit farther up Coast Highway, but this has made me nostalgic enough to take a trip down there to bid Alex hello.

When I’m up in O’side and I need something, I pass 7 – 11 and numerous liquor stores just to get to Wag’s. I’m usually up there with friends and one of them happens to be a cigar aficionado. I can kill 2 birds with one stone because they have a large selection of liquor and an even bigger selection of cigars. PLUS, they have flints and fluid for Zippo lighters. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find flints & fluid? Buy a Zippo and you’ll see.
Here’s why, besides the great selection and outstanding customer service, they get 5*s. I wasn’t aware that your credit card purchases had to be $ 5 or more. I understand that rule beause the merchant pays for each credit card transaction, no matter how small. I don’t carry cash and I forgot to get flints. They were only a dollar but even the change in my car wasn’t enough. I wish I could remember his name… it’s right on the tip of my tongue… ugh, I hate it when I forget… let’s just call him Wag. Wag tells me that he always remembers me and to pay him the next time I’m in the store. Granted, it was about a month until I was up there again but I hate bad karma so I went into the store and gave him a dollar and some change. That’s just a great way to run a business. Give them something to remember you by. Now I won’t go anywhere else.
