Stop & Shop

It is the general stereotype that ladies like to shop… For me though, I hate shopping. Except for food… especially at this food store… my happy place!
I think Stop and Shop is like my security blanket. Yupp… totally odd. When I first moved out on my own, the nearest food store was a Stop and Shop. I seriously got lost in this store. Lost, in a good way. I made my way up and down aisles as if it were only me in the store. We had a connection! I know this is sounding sick! I seriously bonded with S&S…
Prices were under my tight budget and I loved the variety.
After I established a more local apartment, I explored the Oceanside, Atlantic Ave. Stop and Shop. Again, I discovered this was gonna be my go-​to-​food-​shop-​spot.
Walk in and immediately presented with flowers and produce. Totally geared to the ladies. (haha!)
I have never done the self-​checkout/​scanner thingy but, it is right there to the right of the door.
I just love perusing the aisles… a mindless therapy for me.
Sundays are not the best day to go do a big shop (even though that is my «food shop» day :/​.) A lot of empty shelves, sale items gone… on a Tuesday, after the shelves are bustling, yup. Place to head over to.
Produce is super fresh from veg to fruit. Have bought fish straight off the block, as well as amazing chicken breast and skirt steaks.
I love that they have Polar Seltzers (season /​limited edition-​wide.)
When I drank Red Bull, there were always sale prices.
Aisles are wide and you don’t feel as if you are always in someone’s way. The only aisle I hate (with a full cart) is the dairy/​bread aisle. Oh, and the frozen veg/​meal aisle. Always packed…
The bakery I have not used yet but, it smells beyond amazing, especially when I am food shopping for healthy-​ish items! Tease!
Parking is no no nonsense for your in and out trips. Checkout is always fast and savings on the club card are generous.

Huge supermarket. This rating is for one manager… Herman. He confirmed our little Mickey Mouse doll was found after our littlest dropped it from the stroller. He called us to say it was found and kept it safe until we picked it up. Very happy with this service.
As an aside, the lines are usually pretty quick moving. We love the well stocked natural food isle.

This place is kind of dirty to start. I placed my deli order at the kiosk and went shopping. After 35 minutes, I went to pick up my order and it wasn’t ready but he was busy helping other customers that had just walked up and kept taking them. I ended up standing around for another 15 minutes while he worked on other customers that kept coming up after I arrived to pick up my order. Did I mention the store was dead and there were two people at the counter moving at the speed of zombie?
These people are hopeless!

This store is nice but are are never any salads and a staff member said they were «too backed up to make any today». I thought salads were a staple item. Also, the staff puts their stocking carts in the middle of the aisle, even on a busy Saturday morning.

I went out to purchase some items at Stop and Shop this morning. I was extremely careful to check the sale prices on each item and to confirm that was indeed the item I had purchased. When I got to checkout I was astonished to learn that several items I purchased were not rung up as being on sale even though the shelf display and a rather large display I saw when I entered the store indicated otherwise. I called over the manager who stated there was an error in the organization of the display and she did not know why some of the items were being rung up at a higher price. They then after my protest she adjusted some of the items and refunded some others. It should not be my responsibility to check on the accuracy of store prices. Most shoppers take the bill for granted and walk out without checking it. The error this time was over 20.00 or 25% of my bill a unconscionable amount. I was surprised by such a problem from a usually efficient and well stocked supermarket chain. This is a poor business practice and I will not be returning back to this location.

This is my favorite grocery store and because we do not live close it is a treat when we get to make the trek to this store. The aisles are wide and the store is very clean. The employees are friendly and very helpful and I do not think I have had a bad experience yet (knock on wood). The healthy food section is quite large and they have a wide variety of foods which I like. Definitely recommend this location compared to the one in Inwood.

Clean, organized, well stocked and very convenient. Great selection of produce and specialty items. A winner on the local supermarket scene.

Update. Saturday morning 9 am. No milk no ½+1/2. Hardly any candy for Halloween. But thankfully Christmas stuff is here. This place sucks. Fire the manager and start over. How many people have to go to the customer service desk and ask «where’s the milk?»

Much nicer than some of the other stores I’ve been to. Clean and organized. I’ve seen prices a bit cheaper at other Stop N Shops but the quality of their items is up to par so I don’t mind kicking out a few cents extra. I’ve never stood on line for a long period of time and have never seen this place obscenely busy. Great experience.

Still shop several different stores looking for the best prices. This store is big and bright… but still pricier by far than their competitors, lots of bells and whistles. I shop by the circulars and still feel I couldn’t do my only shopping here.

Love their organic food. The store is always clean. Everyone there is very helpful. I dont usualy buy seafood from a supermarket but their scallops were amazing. Unlike «other supermarkets» never had a problem.

Pretty nice Stop & Shop. Definitely the best one I’ve been to in New York. This Stop & Shop is new and huge. I am also amazed by the scanner system, it’s pretty cool that you can just scan everything as you shop. I definitely look forward to shopping here more in the future.

A few more discoveries that make shopping here somewhat enjoyable:
1. Gas rewards. I just filled up my truck for $ 3.19/gallon thanks to this place and their rewards. Check the circular to get bonus rewards for buying certain things.
2. Minimal human interaction. Not only do they have the scanner system where you scan and bag all your items before you even get to checkout, but you can also order your deli meats through a computer when you first walk in — continue to shop — and then it will TEXT YOU when it’s ready for pick up. How awesome is that? Yes, their deli prices are double, but not having to deal with humans makes it kinda worth it.

This review is based on relativity. WIthout disparaging the alternatives, this supermarket is a NY Strip in a land of Salisbury steaks. So clean, so fresh, so well lit, so friendly. I was a Stop & Shop acolyte until I moved to the area @ 2 years ago. My wonderful supermarket has followed me here and so I can resume happy grocery acquisitions.

Huge store which just opened this week on Atlantic Ave.
Great selection, good prices for a Stop & Shop and a great layout. And they offer the scan as you go system, which is a huge time saver!
