Who still buys porn anymore? I can understand sexual aides, erotic clothing and other sexual devices, but porno movies and even mags. Most porn can be gotten for free online so seeing this shop still running in downtown Oceanside was a little weird. But I guess with Camp Pendleton right up the road there will always be those horny jarheads who need a quick fix. The selection is small as the store is rather small itself, the staff seems nice, but the patrons can either be young marines or sketchy looking loners. If you’re reading this you’re obviously online so there’s an endless well of porno out there for you to search.

Last year while I was unemployed, broke, and miserable, I frequented downtown Oceanside to immerse myself in all its hobo/alcoholic/hallucigenic-induced/military glory. You see, when you visit downtown Oceanside, you not only have access to a lovely beach, art studios(yes, they are there!), and funky little boutiques, but you also get an inside look at North County’s finest characters. A quick stroll is innocuous at best, but when you actually spend several days a week there trying to forget about your money troubles and Orange County experiences, you will find those unforgettable, special characters who will reach out and touch your inner core. Which brings me to the Adult Bookstore that is inconspicuously wedged between the Surf Museum and Crêpe Shop. I can’t even verify if my exact location is correct; the bright, sunny day I decided to go visit it, I actually *missed* the entrance to go in. I’ve always been fascinated with the obscure and the«non”-norm, and every time I passed by Pier View on my way to the beach, that«Adult Bookstore» sign never ceased to whet(LOL)my curiousity. I sure felt like a moron for missing that dark door; I was hoping that the person in front didn’t notice I missed their entrance by mistake, although I highly doubt that. Upon entering, the guy behind the desk at the right of the door(and he looked like he just turned 21) greeted me with a smile and asked to see my ID. I flash it to him. Then he proceeds to tell me to look around and ask if I have any questions. I liked him; he seemed entirely normal and nice. He’s not one of my special characters referring to earlier… rather… It’s the customers, the ones society would consider sexual deviants. Maybe it’s because I’m female or maybe it’s got to do with my «aura», but I *never* once got to look these men(yes, all men) in the eye and see their faces. They were all in their respective corners, feverishly flipping through the vivid pages teeming with voluptuous women with assets much more appealing than mine. The store itself is crazy tiny and jammed packed with all your adult, creative needs. Sexy lingerie. Lubes. Magazines and videos. Toys(all different kinds and tons of them, depending on your price range, need, and fetish). And, of course, protection. There are also a couple special pills that promise interesting results, but I’m not a fan of ingesting something that may not be FDA approved. Fascinating, yet creepy. You’d have to visit it yourself to see what I’m talking about. After 10 minutes of indulging, I decided I didn’t fit in and left in a hurry. I wouldn’t mind going back, so long as I had a partner in crime to come with. ;)
