Carvel

Rude teenagers working there. It’s a bit overpriced for the amount of ice cream I get. They never fill up the cup. So basically you’ll pay for a medium and get a small. Pay for a small get a jr. Pay for a jr you get one spoon.

I have loved Carvel since I was a kid and Tom Carvel was advertising. I even worked at a Carvel in Baldwin when I was in high school and college but it closed years ago. This Carvel is around the corner from my house. It’s ok and I go pretty regularly on Wednesday for BOGO sundaes. Taste and quality has decreased over the years while prices have increased but we still enjoy our sundaes!
I have tried some of their newer products like dashers and don’t care for them. I occasionally pick up a box of sprinkle cups or a bonnet but mostly I go for soft serve and I like that they frequently have a machine running with other flavors like pistachio, Nutella and coffee at this store.
As for service, it’s hit or miss. Some of the kids are fine, some are a little clueless but I’m not a huge fan of the owner either. He’s older and from a time when friendliness was probably one of the most important parts of the job and so he talks and talks and talks! Don’t get me wrong, I want a polite transaction but I’m really not interested in small talk… I just want to get in and out! Also not a fan of the tip jar on the counter but they are far from the only establishment in town to have one.
As for cakes, personally I like Baskin Robbins better but it’s further away. If I’m getting a Carvel cake I order it in advance and I get the standard vanilla/​chocolate and crunchies and have them add fudge in the middle. It’s a little more expensive but it tastes better and I’m certain I’m getting a fresh cake. If you don’t have time to order one, then make sure you pick a cake from the bottom of the freezer because the new cakes go in underneath. At least they did when I made them way back when…

I grew up on Carvel. The items served at this Carvel, over the years has gone downhill. The soft serve and frozen items have a definite waxy texture and bland taste. The later items have an icy crust. The extra thick shakes are tasteless and not really extra thick and barely thick. How this place stays in business is beyond me.

Simple order chocolate/​vanilla twist with chocolate sprinkles… Got a pile of pale looking watery something (see photo) 4 dollars later 3 bites and into the trash. Service was pleasant.
Well that was a waste of 4 bucks.

I haven’t had an ice cream experience in a long time and it was ruin by Oceanside Carvel. The quality of ice cream has really taken a dip over the years. I order a large vanilla shake and to my demise it was one of the most water down ice cream shakes I ever had. You’d expect with prices so high at Carvel, that they would really try to make your experience a good one, but instead they ruin it half quality ice cream shake. I will never be going back to this carvel.

The young man that works here is VERY VERY RUDE. I just came in for some ice cream with my kids and everything I asked for (like toppings oreos, peanuts etc.) he’d just replied «NO» with an attitude and when i asked if they can add whipped cream after i purchased he just said no with a smart ass attitude. And i asked why and he’s like «just because those are the rules» i couldn’t believe it its JUST ICE CREAM!!! and and the young girl next to him said just put it on and he was very upset that he had too. It was very unpleasant we just wanted some ice cream but we had to deal with this rude little boy. I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE. We had 3 kids and 2 adults we spent at least $ 30 bucks I expect a little more customer service plus its not that serious And its not like we had any problems paying for extra toppings it just felt like he did not want to serve us or something. Very disappointing.

Helped with the unplanned design of a speciality cake. Awesome, creative and talented staff that were helpful and into their jobs. Even, 30 minutes before closing on a Friday night when i am sure they were anxious be elsewhere.
Carvel continues to be as good as they have always been.

Carvel! As great as it was 40 years ago, the only difference is the prices have really increased. They can charge whatever they want, money is really no object when you walk into a place you have been going to since you were wheeled in in a stroller. Stick with the soft serve in a waffle cone (best chocolate or cherry dip around) or an awesome classic sundae (butterscotch is classic), and get 6 flying saucers to go. Their ice cream cakes are what every other place has copied. Their chocolate cruchies should be patented. A real birthday isn’t complete without an ice cream cakes every other year or so.
