Went to Dr. Alters to get help for my son, who is ASD/ADD/ADHD. Had to do two appointments for evaluation, ok. His office person is an old lady with an attitude! His office smelled like an old man and his office manager seemed more like his wife! She lays down the rules to see Dr. Alters and you must not deviate! Before the 3rd visit, we had something come up and cancelled about a week prior(speaking directly with his wife… er I mean his office manager). I called back a week later to schedule another appointment and the office manager told me that she would not schedule us another appointment because we have been dropped as patients. She said that she sent a letter explaining why… Ok! I get the letter which says that because we failed to keep a scheduled appointment, Dr. Alters was no longer going to see us as patients and please see the attached bill for $ 300.00 for wasting his time. I called the old lady(office manager/wife) and asked her if she did not remember that I had called her a week earlier to cancel the appointment and she said«Sir, you did not call me and cancel your appointment and I never spoke to you.» I knew right then that I was dealing with someone who was not all there. I asked to speak with Dr. Alters directly and she absolutely refused saying«if you continue to call here I am going to call the police.» She told me that on the first and only call to the office after receiving the dropped patient letter! I never called again. I just paid the bill and vowed to write negative reviews of my experience with Dr. Alters any chance I got!

I haven’t been to this office. My review is based solely on the prices. I don’t have insurance and needed to pay cash for an appointment to get my meds refilled. I, of course, understand that all doctors will require an evaluation for new patients. However, this one requires 2 evaluation appointments for some reason. Seeing as how every other doctor requires only one eval appointment, I am already on meds that are working very well, and I am under the care of a psychologist, it seems completely unreasonable to tell me I need 2 appointments at $ 300 each to refill my meds. I called The Waring Group in Oceanside right after I hung up. They could get me in within a week and charge $ 200 for the ONE eval appointment and only $ 75 for follow-up visits. If you don’t have insurance, I would give them a call!
