My boyfriend and I stayed here this past weekend. Based on the reviews we read and a rating of 4.5 stars, we were a bit disappointed. The saying, «You get what you pay for» pretty much nails it on the head in this situation. Other hotels in the area charge double for an ocean view. It was a good experience overall and we made the best of it. But we did have mixed feelings about this place and here’s why: PROS Natasha and George, our hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating. They are gracious people and made us feel right at home. Location is great. Ocean Grove is a quaint, small(dry) town. The B&B is 1 ½ blocks from the beach, 3 blocks from Main St where there are restaurants and shops, 10 – 15 minute walk to Cookman Ave(bars, restaurants) in Asbury Park and about a 15 – 20 min walk to the Asbury Park boardwalk area. We did have a peek-a-boo view of the ocean from the foot of our bed. CONS The building itself is old. It needs some TLC, in my opinion. But I guess some people would call that charm. We stayed in room #1 the Bel Canto Room, which was a bit small. There was a chair to seat one person, a queen bed, a small fridge, and a decent size private bathroom. The shower-head was not my friend, though. I couldn’t adjust the position of it as it was too high for me and most of the water hit the side of the shower, ugh. The room seemed a little cramped for two people, especially with our luggage on the floor. First major con, the bed was extremely uncomfortable. It sagged in the middle(real bad) and also squeaked with every small movement we made. We may have gotten past the uncomfortable bed for one night, but we stayed for three. We were eager to get home just to get a good night’s rest. Second con(although not so major), no TV in the room. The only TV in the house was in the TV room located on the 4th floor. I know, this isn’t a big deal because how much time do you actually spend in your room down at the beach… But still, it’s nice to have the news on or background noise in the mornings and evenings when getting ready to go out. Thankfully we brought our mobile speaker with us! No smoking or drinking on the beach in OG. My boyfriend smokes cigars and I smoke cigarettes(I know, I know… yuck) and we both like to enjoy beverages on the beach so we decided to truck all our gear to Asbury Park, where we can smoke and drink in peace. Although Ocean Grove is a beautiful place and the people are friendly, we don’t think we will be staying here again. It’s a little too quiet for us, we like a little more action. We do wish Natasha and George success in the future.
