Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken

This is a good place to get Chicken and Sweet tea at an affordable price. The food is good, and the service is excellent. It is also very clean.

There is nothing better than Lee’s Chicken! Really.
Their chicken has to be the largest (photo) and tastiest of any chicken chain I’ve eaten in and now that I’m back in the SW I really miss it.
Whenever I’m in Ocala, I make several visits, particularly on Wednesday and Sunday’s for their 3 piece Specials for $ 5.49 (see photos). Lee’s has a full menu and everything is very good.
A little background, Lee Cummings and Harold Omer open «Harold’s Take Home» in Lima, Ohio back in the day and that’s where Lee Cummings Forster introduced his Famous Recipe chicken.
But this wasn’t some some kid with an idea for better tasting chicken. Lee was the nephew of Colonel Sanders and spent most of his childhood in hs kitchen.
Lee even hit the road with his famous uncle in 1952, selling their own special blend of spices along with their famous pressure cookers, which later became part of KFC’s «Secret Recipe». In just three years, Lee and the Colonel opened over 800 KFC stores. Wow, 800 KFC outlets in three years, that has to be a record of some kind.
Sadly in 1979 Lee sold the chain to Shoney’s, who in turn sold it to RTM Restaurant Group in 1995. BTW, Colonel Harland David Sanders died on December 16^th, 1980 and is now played by former SNL cast member Darrell Hammond on KFC’s TV commercials. Though I enjoy his Sean Connery Jeopardy skit better. LOL

The 200 location is great, love the roasted chicken strips and the sides are very good. Service is good too. Their chicken is the best and the prices are very fair, coupons make it a great deal.
