Visiting my family for the holidays we were doing some shopping around this area. They had always wanted to try this place, so we stopped in for some takeout. The place had a rather strange smell, almost musty like a basement. It didn’t instill great confidence in me for my upcoming food experience. I ordered a pulled pork burrito with the habanero and honey BBQ sauces on the side. The burrito came out and it was actually quite delicious. Beans, onions and peppers, and perfectly cooked pork stuffed the inside. The sauces were okay. The honey was way too sweet for me and the habanero had barely a hint of spice to it. The sauce were also very thick, not my style BBQ sauce. My mom got a pulled pork kids sandwich with fries. The fries were«eh». But again the pork was really good. The kids version of the sandwich was HUGE. I would go back here for the meat for sure, but probably not the sauce.

Got the pulled pork dinner with coleslaw and baked beans. Pork was pretty good — moist and flavorful; a lot of sauce — should have asked for sauce on side. Both beans and slaw were good. The cornbread that came with was dry. I’d go back again

I placed an order for 150 wings two weeks before my husband’s surprise 40th birthday party, so that Pappy Bob’s would have plenty of lead time to prepare for such a big wing order. I had originally planned on getting food for the party from a well known place in Lorain, but figured I’d give the local place my money instead. The owner of Pappy Bob’s took down my order and asked what time I wanted to pick up the wings on the day of the party. Well the party day rolled around and it was time to pick up my order. To my horror when I went to pick up the wings, they had COMPLETELY forgotten my order! This was a surprise party with a fairly rigid timeline, and I asked for them to be ready at a set time specifically so they would still be hot for the guests. The owner was not there but the two people running the restaurant made a panicked attempt to fulfill the order. I ended up with 150 disgustingly soggy and greasy wings. I can’t begin to explain how much of a disappointment this was. I ended up having to rush around to the hot foods sections at local grocery stores to try and compensate for the wings that no one at the party ate. So much for trying to support local business. I will NEVER patronize Pappy Bob’s again.

Would give Pappy Bob’s 3.5 stars. Pulled in parking lot and smoker was going. The scent was intoxicating. I had the pulled chicken sandwich with habanero BBQ sauce. Smoked baked beans on the side. My friend had the pulled pork with spicy BBQ sauce. The chicken was all white meat. Nice smoky flavor the bun was good too. Had a nice buttery flavor. The habanero BBQ sauce was tasty and a little hot in a good way. The baked beans were just OK. There was stringy smoked meat in the beans that was somewhat unappealing. The BBQ pork had a gamy flavor that was disappointing. Not sure if it was a quality of meat issue or a prep problem. I would give this place a second chance, though.

I feel bad giving this place a poor review, since we had pretty decent service, we where greeted and served by a very nice women. However the customer services could not make up for the awful food we had. It seems like we where given someone’s day old leftovers. We ordered the sample platter, and all of the meat on it was not only extremely dried put but also cold. The buffalo sauce just tasted like vinegar, and the bbq sauce was externally bitter and tangy. I was not impressed about this place and it was extremely over priced for something that was so subpar.

Yummy! We’ve been many times. Never disappointed. We actually get a few pounds of the pork for company. It’s always a hit. The desserts are to die for.

Great food, great service. I love eating at Pappy Bob’s. I make it a point to eat at Pappy Bob’s once a week. Pulled pork burritos and Cajun fries are always delicious.

Delicious. Got a brisket dip sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, cajun fries, and mac n’ cheese. Everything was awesome. The meat was tender and flavorful, the fries were perfect(soft in the middle, crispy on the outside), the mac n’ cheese was obviously homemade, with real cheese nonetheless! Come here, you will not regret it. Nothing fancy, but they do what they do well.

After driving by this place everyday to and from work I decided to stop in and give it a try. I’m so glad I did. I tried their Chicken Philly sandwich, WOW. Super friendly service, had a great sandwich, just sorry I haven’t stopped before this. Will definitely be going back in for more. I think the Pappy Sampler is next on my menu. :)

I walked into Pappy Bob’s and was greeted by the heavy smell of wood smoke, a smell you don’t often get it Cleveland-are«BBQ» joints, and it was a welcome surprise. This joint, although a bit of a drive from Cleveland-proper, has some of the best BBQ in the Cleveland area. It was a welcome surprise. My first sample was a pulled pork sandwich, which was on special for a great price. It was a very good sized portion and it came with fries. I had it with their spicy sauce. The pork was delicious. Unfortunately it came with the sauce on it, covering up a bit of the taste of the meat. I was able snatch a few pieces out from between the bun that weren’t sauced was happy to taste that good flavor. If I ordered the sandwich again I would ask for the sauce on the side, and probably wouldn’t go for the spicy. I also tried the ribs. I ordered the with the sauce on the side and was greeted with an EXCELLENT smell and full smoke flavor. The ribs meat under the smoke skin was that heavily smoked pink. They were excellent and something worth returning for, for sure. I’m glad I ordered them un-sauced with it on the side so I was able to get some of that smokey meat flavor that they have. The sides I had were their Cajun fries and Mac and Cheese. The Cajun fries were excellent, and rival those at Five Guys. In my opinion they were somehow better. The Mac was top notch as well. Not everything was perfect. My ribs were a bit over-done. Don’t get me wrong, I know a good heavily smoked rib is going to be chewy and that’s what I like, but I had a few portions that were charcoaled. It’s okay though because I got that flavor that I look for in good BBQ and know it was a small mistake, not the norm. My other issue was the sauce. It wasn’t as good as the meats were. Going back I’d make sure to have everything with sauce on the side. Somehow the sauces really didn’t complement the excellent smokey flavors in the meats. I tried the regular, honey, and spicy and all 3 were off. I would ask for my ribs to be hit with a sprinkling of dry-rub before being served to me next time just to get more of that already built in flavor and might skip the sauce. I’ll be going back for sure. This experience might have been 3.5 stars for me but I can tell this is a 4 star joint. I saw they have smoked wings on their menu, so those will be next on my menu. I hope this place only gets more popular, because they deserve it.
