Their wines were great, but tasting cost was a bit steep($ 40). We bought 3 bottles and asked if the tasting fee was waived, and received a quick no with no explanation. That is not the norm in Napa, and with so many other wineries there with great wines to taste and tasting fees waived, why go here.

Had read some negative reviews on Unilocal and other sites on the service, people and wine at Plumpjack. We had a great experience — savannah who was helping us was fantastic. Great Cabernets no doubt, but their merlot is very nice too. It drinks like a Cabernet — and as we were told its a Like a cab on training wheels

While I thought that the PlumpJack winery and tasting room was a delightful experience, I don’t know that I would feel the same if I hadn’t been staying at the Carneros Inn and got my tasting for free. In the land of wine where a few bottle purchases comp your tasting, the PlumpJack tasting is steeply priced($ 40!) and isn’t comped regardless of how many bottles you buy. This seems a little ridiculous to me, but it didn’t seem to stop others from coming in to try out their wines. All of their wines were delicious, and the gentleman pouring them was friendly and super knowledgeable. He also poured us a couple tastings that weren’t on the menu, including some from their sister winery, Cade. We opted to not join the club, but if you’re interested it’s definitely Cabernet-heavy(in fact, I think exclusively Cabernet). This is their bread and butter, and you can definitely tell while tasting. If you’re staying at the Carneros Inn, the is a definite must-do, but if you’re not, I might seek out some other options.

We went to this winery in 2010 and had a nice time. This is not a review of the winery, rather the customer service. We bought a few bottles during our visit and shipped them home. We recently opened one up for a special occasion with friends and it had spoiled. Although I understand a wine can spoil, when I called the winery to see what they could do, my experience was less than stellar. The gal who answered the phone grilled me on where it had been stored(a cool dark space) and then said it was probably past it’s age and that they didn’t have anymore so she couldn’t replace it. Then said«sorry, I don’t really have anything else I can say or do» and quickly got off the phone. Are you kidding me? I would not have gone to the trouble of calling and saving the bottle and bad wine and this wasn’t a $ 20 bottle of wine. Having spent $$$ plus shipping and saving it for a 4.5 years to not even offer some sort of solution or even a discount toward a future purchase or even ship me a new bottle of something else. Sadly, we like this wine and order Plumpjack when we see it on a menu and buy it in a store, but won’t anymore.

Expensive, and we only really enjoyed one of the wines that was $ 100 per bottle. The rest were, in their own words, «young». Would not recommend it.

What a great experience! We booked a private tasting for our anniversary and sat outside on the patio overlooking the vineyard. Very peaceful and great views. Now for the wine. It’s amazing!!! The Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon was our favorites. Ask for Ria, she is awesome. She made our experience there so genuine and personal. We will definitely be back!!!

Great wine to taste. The Syrah was my favorite, but they were all great. The staff was very knowledgable and personable. Great place to visit for the price. Also, only one bathroom available so drink accordingly.

PlumpJack was recommended by another winery we visited… and what a gem it was. We sampled some amazing high end wines with Tom, whose dry sense of humor kept us thoroughly entertained and while sipping our libations. He was quite knowledgeable and shared his expertise to enlighten us laymen. Cab and Syrah were excellent, but Odette was my favorite… smooth as silk!

We absolutely loved PlumpJack! It was our favorite vineyard we visited on July 4th. The service was amazing! Shout out to the history teacher /husband of the CT-native; he was amazing! And unfortunately given the number of vineyards we visited that day I do forget his name. We ended up purchasing a bottle of the Merlot. I am one for hating Merlots but we were both extremely impressed with it. Between the wines and customer service, you will have to pay a visit to PlumpJack! We are even considering their membership club.

Plumpjacks Cabs are consistently big fruit, big alcohol, big noise everything I love in a big red! Those expensive, always worth it. The Syrah is also great being about half the price we usually stock up on it & get a couple cabs. But the joy of tasting at Plumpjack is hanging with Malika(sp?) She is young, fun, cute & has made our visits enjoyable both times we’ve visited Plumpjack. My favorite winery.

Very nice location, buildings, outdoor areas and staff was great! It’s a bit pricey but worth it for the good wines — loved the«Odette» Cabernet Sauvignon and you can buy it with screw top or cork — nice to have the choice! Definitely try this winery.

Very informal tasting, no reservation required and it was quite delicious! We shared a tasting at Plumpjack and at times I wish we hadn’t… haha! I really enjoy the wines here and love the fact that you can not only taste PlumpJack but Cade as well. If you’re a fan of Cade wines, you should do your tasting here because it’s cheaper and you get to try more than you would there. The boyfriend found a very nice long sleeve shirt that was super soft for like $ 25 here and so that probably topped it off to a 5 star. Overall the tasting room was small but the wine and hosts are quite nice. We left with 6 bottles. :)

Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Thank you for your present and pleasant personality. Our group bought 4 cases of Syrah and it was Jordan that made the purchase pain free. We love you Jordan. Thank you!

Nice hidden winery, don’t need reservations, fun tasting room attendants, it was nice that you could taste both the plumpjack and the cade selections.

A great find on a recent trip to Napa. Tastings are $ 20 for 3 pours, and the service was great. Multiple people in my party walked away with a new Cab. They also have Cade wines here. There are a lot of outdoor tables and shady areas, as well as a small hilltop with a table to enjoy the view.

«Dogs not only welcome, but encouraged» — that’s what I was told when I brought my pup to PlumpJack. The staff even brought my dog a bowl of water. Dogs are allowed on the outdoor patio and also in the tasting room. PlumpJack has a really interesting history; the Lt. Governor of California and the Getty family own the winery, and the staff is happy to share the story behind the name and the vineyard. Another winery I visited recommended I try PlumpJack for their bold cabs. I did the $ 20 tasting for 3 pours. The 2011 cab really wasn’t as bold as I expected, but the winery also offers bottles of other vintages, which can be purchased and enjoyed at the outdoor tables. Due to limited production, the older vintages are not available for tasting. As much fun as I had in the tasting room, next time I’d probably get a bottle to share and enjoy on the patio. The best part of the wine tasting experience at PlumpJack is the staff. The environment is welcoming, and the attentive staff will make sure you’re served and helped timely. Even with a full bar of folks tasting, both servers behind the bar knew what wine to give me next and both were happy to help. I even got to try a merlot that was not normally available for tasting, and even through I’m not a merlot fan, I really liked the wine.

PlumpJack is a favorite. I wanted to go here solely because the name was fun to say. Turns out, it is a sweet estate and we had a great time at the tasting. I came home with a bottle of Chardonnay. The estate is small and shady. They have succulent gardens scattered around gravel paths. There is a resident winery cat. The tasting room is cool, they have a long slate countertop to stand at and taste. Afterward, we went up to a picnic table that is across the way from the tasting room, up on top of a rock outcrop. It was the perfect spot to stop and take a 360 degree view of Napa Valley. All around great wine tasting experience.

I love the adventure of driving on the narrow road, through the grape vines, followed by a short walk to reach the quaint tasting room — such peaceful surroundings. We enjoyed a relaxed tasting session($ 20); tasty wines(we went home with the Cade 2008 Howell Mountain Cab)!
