US Post Office

Poor to NO service. (1 person working the window)
A 10 – 15 minute drop off will take an hour or more at this place!

Fast service (relatively compared to other post offices) — nothing to complain.
Some of the staffs are quite friendly and funny too.

This post office is like a old folks home… the workers move very slow. I like the ppl that work there they are sweet, but they need to speed things up… Not a good place to go to when your a break… they will make u late… lol

This post office was ok. Not the best experience ever. Lines are long because of the traffic from the surrounding businesses. Once I got to the register to take care of my package I found out I had yet another form to fill to get what I needed taken care of. So I had to get out of line and fill out the form and then take care of my package. it took over an hour to finish after all was said and done. Way more time than I needed to be a the Post Office.

This was my go-​to Post Office years ago for purchasing stamps; sending letters, cards, bill payments, packages; browsing at the items they had at hand (to the left of the long line of customers) because it was conveniently located right across the street from my job at the Elihu M. Harris State Building.
No matter what time of the day, this Post Office had long lines of people waiting to be served. Sometimes I did not mind waiting and other times I would just walk over to 15^th & Franklin to the little hidden gem of a post office station, which is no longer there, to handle my business.
The postal employees here were always nice and friendly with me. They knew I worked across the street in the State Building. I never got upset with them, always telling them «I know patience is a virtue». Then, «pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.» (Quoted from Proverbs 16:24)
I left the Oakland State Building in January 2007 for the San Francisco State Building. I seldom went to the Post Office across the street at the Federal Building on Golden Gate. (Oh, the hassle of going through the security station, taking the elevator to the floor below to purchase my stamps. It was kinda creepy, too.) Thus, there were some Friday afternoons I would take the BART to Downtown Oakland just to stop in at this Post Office and purchase my stamps. Amazingly, the employees do remember me, always ask how I am doing and mention «we haven’t seen you for a while».
Today, I was at the Golden 1 Credit Union to deposit a check, so I stopped in at this Post Office to send a letter and a bill out. The line was long, but nobody was complaining. The same employees were still there, performing their civic duty by serving the public.
The only drawback in coming to this Post Office is parking in this area. It’s difficult to find street parking, even if one does not feel like parking in the garage owned by the City of Oakland. BTW, that garage gets full quick.

WORST POST OFFICE EVER!
I have a PO Box here unfortunately, I have mail sent with a 10:30am arrival time and I never have once received it on time. It’s crazy I have to bring in the tracking number and demand that the find it.
The line is always long and the workers at the counter are gossiping and rude. Needless to say I’m getting a new PO Box as far away from this place as possible.

Ok, so I’m not exactly a fan of the post office, with the generally grumpy (and too few) staff, and outmoded looks. Still, this place has never been busy, and it’s extremely handy from my work. I’ve gone here a couple of times, and the staff have been efficient, and I’ve never had to wait long.
For a post office, you could do a lot worse than this (and the Temsescal location does).

Just an FYI: this post office closes from 1:30−2 every day. Other than that, it’s great. Love the people who work here.

I don’t understand the favorable reviews. Just had the all-​time worst experience I’ve ever had at a post office.
It took about 30 minutes to get to the front of the line at 11:00 a.m. because there was only one person behind the counter. The woman working there today was unbelievably rude and inefficient, responding to certain requests by saying things like «I know how to do my job!».
I will do everything I can to avoid this post office in the future.

Short of dropping off a letter into the mail slots, going to the Post Office is not something most people look forward to. This location is located on the first floor of Oakland Federal Building.
As in many businesses, your wait time will depend when you visit. Expect lines if you go mid-​day. I’ve had no to relatively short waits in the mornings and late afternoons. Plus, the workers here are friendly and helpful. I’m glad this Post Office is so close to where I work

Time: 2:30pm
Purpose: Drop off personal and business mail.
Staff: Very efficient and understands most of the time what customers are after. Don’t get them piss because once you do lines starts to back up and slows to a crawl.
Cleanliness: Its day to day operations what else do you what?
Products: Free self pick up’s of FR envelopes and boxes. Carries a full line on packaging materials and needs. Items can also be order online and mail to you home or business. FR materials can be order online and deliver free of charge provided that you have establish an account with the USPS.
Expectations: Longer lines at around lunch time and some materials may not be on hand. Be prepare to bring all your necessary items for shipping or price quotes even recommendations with actual item on hand is easier for the clerks.
Final Thoughts: Working a block away I can just walk in do my thing out in less than 5 minutes max and I’m only saying if I don’t need to stand in line. With a line it can be around 15 – 20 minutes. I haven’t seen Sharon in a long time wonder if she retired? Hi Sharon its the guy with lambskin briefcase!

I like the post office, I really do. I like interacting with the staff, I don’t mind long lines, I even love the architecture of older post office buildings. However, based on recent events, my estimation of the local post office and the main Oakland post office has plummeted. A package of mine was lost. I’m not blaming anyone and don’t really care how it was lost. I called USPS to file a claim, so I can try to recoup my package. I received a call on Saturday from a postal worker who left a message and explained that I would receive a call from the manager of the post office on Monday. I called back and spoke with this woman, who confirmed what she had stated in her phone message. Monday comes. No call. Tuesday morning comes. My husband finds a note in the mail stating that they have tried calling and have not been able to reach me. That is untrue. I have called the number at which I reached the woman on Saturday repeatedly. It is the same number on the notice. Outside of some jerk who picked up the phone, spoke in gibberish, and hung up, no one has answered the phone. I called USPS only to find out from them that the case was allegedly cleared and that the customer had therefore been notified that the case was closed. Oh really? You know, I can understand that packages may get lost, but to be dishonest and unprofessional is unacceptable. Lame Oakland Post Office, really lame.

I agree with other reviews about the friendly workers but here are the negatives:
1) This is the main post office in downtown Oakland proper and it is in the federal building, so why are there no stamp machines?
2) Only 2 service desks open during the busiest time of the day — lunch hour. Awful!
3) After 40 minutes, I finally get up to the clerk at one of the only 2 service desks open… NO STAMPS! What the? The United States Post Office doesn’t stock stamps?
The friendly clerk agreed with me about my 3 complaints and encouraged me to formally complain, providing me a form for that purpose.

Clean, fast and friendly — great location for businesses next to City Center!

The post office is the post office. I think it’s the people behind the counters that matter and the ones here are friendly. I hate dealing with grumpy government employees — I love that I don’t have to here!
The hours aren’t that great and lines can get long, but you just have to know when to go. I generally go around 830 or 9 am and have zero problems.

The people behind the counter here are friendly and efficient. It’s always very clean, and they actually have pens on the counter for the public to use (althought they are bolted down. smart move).
The biggest plus about this location however, is the fact that every time I have dropped off something here to be mailed, it always reaches its destination in a timely and efficient manner. Sorry, all post offices aren’t the same. Ever have one of those post offices that either opens late often or seems to delay processing of outgoing mail for a day or so? This isn’t one of them.
No, they don’t have a stamp machine, but the longest i’ve ever waited in line here was 10 minutes. And majority of the clientele i’ve seen pass thru this location actually knows how to obtain and fill out the correct forms before they reach the window! They need to record them and have the tape play on a loop in the Berkeley Post Office.

I wish I got to go during the happy times everyone else goes.
The lines are incredibly long. There are no self-​service machines. The employees lock the doors before 5pm. Yes, some of the employees are nice, but some of them are downright rude, purposefully un-​helpful, and angrily aggressive. The nice ones often times are «phoning it in» and give wrong information or are unable to assist because they don’t know all the details of the mail system. When that happens they smile & shrug their shoulders. Sure, they’re nice about it, but completely ineffective.
Unfortunately I have to deal with this post office at least twice a week for work. 50% of the time I walk out scratching my head in wonder or rubbing it from banging it against the wall for so long…

The line can build up during lunchtime rush or in the afternoon, but most of the employees actually work quickly so it’s never a pain. I use this post office for all my mailing needs to avoid the sloooow Berkeley ones.
The only drawback is that they don’t have machines that sell stamps, so if you need only 1 stamp, you have to wait in line.

Yes the line was long, but when is the line at the post office never not long?
The post office attendant, an African American woman, was very friendly and even gave me different pricing options for my package that would save me money! Friendly and helpful at a US post office?! This is unheard of.
