This place smells like a litter box. There, I said it. It’s gross. If you can get past the smell, they have a somewhat large, but limited selection of wines, some microbrews, a boat load of liquor and some snacks including some Ethiopian varietals. Location is super convenient located right on Telegraph. The guy manning the counter was super nice. I bought a scratch off ticket as a gift and he even gave me a free card to put it in. Well, thanks. Definitely a solid neighborhood bodega, smell and all.

Great people here, and a very welcoming place. Decent beer selection, and fairly priced. Family owned, been around for a while. I like it even better after the neighborhood successfully held off infiltration attempts by BevMo. I’ll go out of my way to spend my beer money here. Thanks for being awesome!

I love supporting U and I. This is not at all like your average liquor store that you’d find cluttered with overpriced booze, cheap candy, and random drunks. U and I is clean, safe, and run by the most friendly family – their daughter is adorable – who always play great tunes over the radio(and occasionally Ethiopian standup). The vibe is great and I always feels comfortable here even late at night. I come here about every week to pick up random snacks and party provisions. Lots of spirits and wine to choose from, but I’m mostly into the beer here. The microbrew selection is impressive. The owner has a great sensibility for stocking tasty brews – you’re bound to find something you like – and nothing is priced unreasonably. On top of your standard fare, U and I features many California brewers, such as Calicraft, Anchor Steam, Speakeasy, North Coast, Sierra Nevada, 21st Amendment, Lagunitas, Lost Coast, and many more. There’s a few shelves just for different ciders, as well as a smattering of super rich Belgian ales. They even have some non-gluten beer(if you’re into that). Lots of singles if you just want something to go. I also recommend the pastries near the register – super sweet and flaky. There’s also a surprising amount of bottled kombucha, teas, and other yuppie non-alcohol libations to choose from.

Amiable storemen. Stupendous selection of spirits from more than 4 continents. Delicious wines? What’s not to like? Polite customers, wink wink… Get some Templeton Rye.

I come here regularly considering I live about half a block away. This is your standard corner/liquor store. They’ve got pretty good beer selection though considering. Variety of cheap and nicer beer. Of course they’ve got New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, and others, but also a decent selection of the tall bottles. I forget if they’re 24oz or what, but they’ve got good stuff if you’re looking for just a single beer for the evening. They’ve also got a giant selection of wine. I haven’t delved into this area too much, because I kinda doubt that what they have is that great, but you never know. They have several aisles worth of wine. What corner store would be without snacks, this place has the mother load. Pretty much everything you can imagine and a ton of ice cream too! There’s ice cream bins in the front of the place by the cash register. The guy who works there, owner or w/e is super chill and a very friendly guy. Ever since I moved to the area he’s always been a friendly guy to have a quick chat with and I always see him chatting other customers away. Love the neighborhood vibe alot. Everyone comes here I think. The beer can at times be a little overpriced for the cheap stuff. Like the upper end beer is pretty fair, but things like tecaté and pbr are def like a few dollars more than they should be. Can’t beat the people working here though it’s a good vibe and I’d rather have them than a Bevmo any day.

U & I Liguors has a large, average priced micobrew selection, slightly pricey wines, ethiopian snacks, convenience foods, exotic sodas, drinks, etc. store is organized, neat, not cluttered, not obstrusive– a plus drink: bruce cost ginger ale, unfiltered(2.5) –100% ginger with cane sugar –tangy and sweet, nice.

This is my regular liquor store — I’m not sure if any of you know what that means for a Yuppie under-35 in 2013, but it’s something like church. This is the best store — they have amazing homemade samosas, the dude at the counter is awesome(and listens to great radio), they have my favorite store-beer(nectar), and they are not nearly as sketchy as a lot of the other liquor stores in the area can get after dark(I’m looking at YOU, Oasis Market-by-the-overpass). Also, NOBEV-MOINTHENEIGHBORHOOD, LET’S KEEPITTHATWAY!

How many liquor stores are actually exceptional? U & I is family-run and has a great vibe, plus it serves Temescal’s community with a selection of Ethiopian music, food and other products worth checking out. All that and great beer selection too!

A nice family run shop with an excellent beer selection, plenty of spirits, and a decent wine selection too. Also carries a wide variety of cigarettes and Haagen Dazs. And on top of your basic corner market fare — canned beans, snapple, red vines — you can get injera here as well! The owner is super friendly — and chatty with regulars if it’s not too busy — and he will look into special ordering things for you. I live a couple of blocks from here, and I must say, he runs a clean and respectable business. I never see drunks loitering about. This isn’t a sketchy liquor store — these folks care about the neighborhood and signed a voluntary pact with the City of Oakland to close earlier than the 2 am last call. This is the kind of liquor store more neighborhoods need. You get an extra treat if his kids are in the store — they are the cutest!
