Unpretentious spot in downtown oakland to grab a beer, check out music or art, or grab some late night food. The loft upstairs serves as a space for bands to perform .It’s a little tight but you can always hang downstairs and still hear what’s going on. They also have some sweet art upstairs right now. Sometimes they have folks spinning records/djing and that’s fun too. . Also a good spot for watching warriors games

Though not many people know or reviewed, Hatch is a cozy little beer joint in Downtown Oakland. It is a great little place to gnaw on some good food as well. There are eight micro-brews on tap. I started out with the Deschutes River ale. For $ 6.00 a pint, the brew is a light and calming beer with a 4.0% ABV. This is a very drinkable brew. I like it. For dinner, I need to fill out a form and check the item and toppings that I want to zero in on. I chose a simple cheese burger for $ 5.75. I also added bacon for an additional $.50 and onions for $.25. The burger was juicy and definitely hit the spot. For $ 2.99, I also ordered a basket of French fries. The basket of fries is a hefty size and can easily be a meal. I was enjoying my meal while watching Monday night football. The bartender was a laid back dude too. As some of you have read from my «Quick tip» from here, the little spot also serve Japanese Fried Chicken for lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays. I might come back here and try that exclusive item and hopefully give an update.

Casual and unpretentious, The Hatch is an acceptable place to stop in and have a beer(or cider, in my case). Don’t expect a lot of options or a lot of attention. Also don’t expect food of the«gastropub» caliber; the chili cheese burger was passable, and I’m sure more alcohol would have made it taste good, even. Thanks to the live music played by some unseen band(upstairs in the loft, I assume), the noise level was moderate, causing me to lean close to my partner in order to take part in a conversation(though I’m not complaining about the forced proximity in this instance, it might be a bit too close for a more casual acquaintance). Overall, not awful but not any place I’d go out of my way to visit again.

This is a fantastic bar to hang out at. Strong beer selection, great diner food(chili cheese fries for days), and an overall friendly and casual vibe. This is a bar that you can go have a beer and chat it up with friendly local strangers. Close walk from all the aggro loud and super packed bars(*ahem* Make Westing). Definitely stop by for a beer, you will be glad you did.

This is the new Oakland! A young, friendly start up bar owner(named Pancho) opened this spot about a year ago(5 Stars). He pulled together his resources and created a really comfortable environment fashioned of re-used materials(10 Stars). He employs local folks, who sell local beer(15 Stars). He partners with an awesome«pop up kitchen»(Abura-Ya) who shares his spot during the day(20 Stars). This is the new Oakland, Ya’ll.

I wanted to like this place more than I did. They had a decent selection of beers and wood panels gave a nice touch to an otherwise utilitarian-looking spot. The main put off was that my friend’s and my beer glasses were empty for a while while the girl behind the bar didn’t seem to notice. I’m a patient person when it comes to getting drinks but both of us wanted to move on since she was busy doing something or other at the other end of the bar. When were packing up, she then asked if we wanted more — a bit too late for that. I’d like to come back when they have the pop-up Abruya restaurant around

No one was in there… main reason we went there was to get some bad ass hot dogs and they aren’t really serving them anymore. Super lame. The place hasn’t updated the menu online and the bartender said they have been changing shit non stop for awhile. .looks like they don’t know what kinda place they are trying to be for a «gastropub»…also bartender was fixing shit at the bar with duct tape when we walked in… got nothing against duct tape but the place looks like you would catch a disease from eating there. We drank our beers and left QUICKLY!

A spot I can call a true Godsend on a late weeknight coming back into Town. After an epic trip to the nether reaches of the Peninsula, I returned hungry and needing beery goodness. The kind folks at the closing-for-the-night Tribune pointed me up a couple blocks toward the Hi Life. But then I saw the Hatch. Looked good. Cool folks milling about outside. They called me sir and kindly produced a bacon wrapped hot dog and my favorite IPA(Wolf Among Weeds). The DJ blasted Jacko, then Prince. The upstairs ping pong pinged and ponged in accompaniment. Late Night eating Heaven. Like a good friendly friend’s rec room. Count me in for the long haul! Apparently they also host a Japanese fried chicken pop up for lunch. Oh yeah.

Dear friends. My homie owns this place and perhaps being the good friend that I am, I must rate his place. Of course, customer service is awesome. The bartender(depending on the person) normally smiles and asks if you want a drink. Yes, the place is dark but that’s the allure. If you aren’t into bright lights but chill conversation, then come on in. It feels like home in a way. Anyhow, there is a selection of brews, but I won’t rate that. I’ll rate the food because I enjoy bar food. First off, DO order avocado. It’s not advertised but sometimes there is some. Slab it on the burger with some sauce. Absolute yum-effect! Then order some chili fries. This is the life. Legit. And I order the burger again with avocado and bacon. SOMUCHHAPPINESS. Aside from the bar food, their trivia night tends to piss me off, but I have to not be a sore loser, because I actually won with the help of my friend. The thing I would improve is perhaps adding more color. That’s it. But that a girlie preference.

OK, I’m giving this place 2 stars because it is a bit of a dump. But it is a comphortable dump with good beer. It reminds me of the days of being a teenager and going to your phriends house and into their basement to chill. There’s the old miss-shapen couch, unmatched phurniture, and bare walls. There was great selection of local brews but no beer menu to describe them. And the bartender didn’t know much more than was on the tap handle. Unilocal says they have pub phood but the night we came they only had hot dogs. To order you would mark an order sheet to check ‘hot dog’ and the ingredients. But they were out of blank order sheets. So they asked us to just do the best we could with a marked up sheet from a previous order.(We used big circles and arrows). Somehow this make-do method of ordering phit in so well with the whole vibe. I will say the hot dog itself was pretty good having been deep phried but everything else about the hot dog was average. So when you go, be sure to lower your expectations appropriately regarding aesthetics and menu choices. Bring someone you enjoy and don’t need to impress, buy them a beer, and enjoy a good conversation. Little known phact: Centuries ago, native americans had domesticated ducks and created a primitive breeding pen on the land where this building sat. Other tribes would come around to trade for the new ducklings. Hencephorth, this spot was known as «The Hatch».

This is a hidden gem on 15th. I can’t believe how many times I’ve walked past here. Space is small inside but they have a great rotation of beers on tap. Great place to come catch up with folks and enjoy a beer.

New spot in Oakland. It’s a hidden gem, you might walk right past it f you’re not paying attention. They have open mic comedy and hip hop on Mondays. Cool spot to come hear some local up and coming rappers and comics. They also have a beer on tap called«the Wolf» ask for one and drink up. The vibe here is chill and so are the folks who come out. They also have good bar food here, burgers fries and such.

This place is what Oakland is all about. You can go there. Enjoy a burg with a no-nonsense menu. Actually chat with people you didn’t go there with. Have a rap battle. Have a beer. Have a legit good time. Veggis burgs, bacon cheese burgs. Just good enough to be great.

A small dark bar with wood paneled walls. They serve Linden St Lager when they can and seemed like a pretty chill place.

Hopped in here randomly this past Tuesday while coming around the corner from the Layover(they were doing women’s comedy night so I hightailed it out of there). I’m really glad we came up on this spot. Excellent service, pretty good selection of beers, but the real draw was these little cheeseburgers they make. It was $ 2.99 a burger and they were PHENOMENAL. I have no idea why they were so good. Basic burgers. Beef, cheese, ketchup. But tasted amazing. Will definitely be coming back to this jawn in the future.
