They get 5 stars from me because they’re the first place in America to serve me takoyaki with the crispy outside! Friendly folks serving hot and fresh takoyaki in their front yard. Delicious! They are open Sunday mornings when the Temescal farmer’s market is happening. I hope they stick around for a long time!

A delicious, unique snack for a hot summer day(or cold, blustery winter day for that matter!) Mei and Teppei know what they are doing and you will NOT be disappointed! The takoyaki balls are made to order and practically melt in your mouth. It’s making my mouth water just thinking about them…

Takoyaki Yum is situated at 491 cavour st., across from the entrance to claremont’s dmv parking lot. a smiling octopus pic on a tree overlooks a lady standing cooking takoyaki. sampling: takoyaki(3/$ 4 or 6/$ 6) –using a cast iron pan with 12 wells, the takoyaki is essentially made to order. –poured batter in well is combined with pieces of previously frozen octopus, green onions, and red ginger –when cooked, takoyaki balls are topped with kewpie mayo, wasabi mayo, bonito flakes, and okonomiyaki sauce –takoyaki balls not totally cooked. –served with wooden stick/spatula temaki: –all ingredients store bought, none home made. –not sure if this is authentic or not, tastes slightly better than ferry building version. –octopus cost high now? not a lot in them balls. –prefer takoyaki to be cooked more. –cash only?

Delicious fried octopus balls! A traditional street food snack in Japan has finally made its way to Oakland. These kids set up shop in their yard across from the Temescal Farmer’s Market every Sunday from 10 – 1. So yummmmmmy.
