My child has been a student here for the last few years. St Martin school has dedicated teachers, hard working students and a new principal! I am pleased that the school still has many many of the «old school» Catholic values that I grew up with, and teaches religion, respect and discipline. Are there higher funded and better schools in Oakland? absolutley but for working parents looking for a diverse and structured education for k-​5, St Martin is a great find.

Named after a Peruvian saint, Martin de Porres was the illegitimate son of a Spanish nobleman & a young freed black slave. (Thanks pointless classes in Catholic school!)
Perfect patron saint for this multi cultural, multi ethnic school in Oakland. They don’t drill you on the Catholicism and no one here will hit you with a ruler.
***They still need tutors for the upcoming school year so spare some time and see Sister Kathleen.***
She promised me I wouldn’t go to hell just for volunteering there. Score!
