I sent an email asking where they are located and when they are open… no reply.

Anyone that finds themselves near the Legionnaire Saloon on Telegraph on the First Thurs of the month, and on a few other special occasions, will be kicking yourself if you do not stop and try one of their BBQ masterpieces. On this night they featured pull pork sliders. The aroma was a great prelude to the rich flavors and texture. It was a full flavor of a slow smoked pork shoulder the zesty contrast of the tangy colesaw. You can also indulge in two special sauces they had one a more classic vinaigrette base and the other a packed a bit more spice and kick along with a roasted smoke veggies blend. Later on in the evening they rolled out pulled pork quesadillas which did not disappoint as well.

Word has come around that BBQ has fallen off in The East Bay. I’m here to tell you that its back. Back in a big way! Whether you’re a BBQ lover or first timer you’ve come to the right place! And that right place is here with Smokin Oak BBQ. I’ve had the pleasure of munching down the crafted dishes from Pit Boss Jason and Sauce Boss Joe for years. I don’t throw a BBQ without them. I’m a chef, and it is extremely hard sometimes to find great food based on our extremely picky palates. I love BBQ, especially pulled pork. TRYTHEIRPULLEDPORK. The BEST pulled pork sandwich I ever had. EVER. This pork was so good, I got Smokin Oak to team up with me for an impromptu tailgate BBQ competition at the Oakland Coliseum last year. And let me tell you the table was surrounded with people trying to get seconds or thirds. The two questions I got throughout that day were«Where are you guys located?» and«Can I have another one?» You can find them right now on First Thursdays at Legionnaires in Oakland. GOTHERE. EAT. And then you’ll understand how phenomenal BBQ can be. Go help Smokin Oak put REALBBQ back on the map.

The best pulled pork I have ever had! Honestly these guys got me to eat pork again. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Oh! And their brisket.. amazing! They make their own array of sauces to suit every one.

I am Jason’s grandfather and he spent some time with us during his high school years, but after serving in the usmc, he relocated to Cali. We were fortunate to have him and Holly visit with us a while back and he asked me what I would like him to make for me, because he is the master chef of our house, and I told him my favorite dish was zuppa de pesche fra diavalo, so he said he would do it. I have been on this earth for 83 years and consumed many varieties of this dish in some of the best restaurants in the area, but this was by far the best ever,‘He had several types of meat in the sauce, all blending together to make a sauce for the gods. The only downside is I have to wait who knows how long to again enjoy this wonderful dish

I can attest to the supreme quality of the meats cooked up by pitboss and saucemaster Joe and Jason. I’ve had pulled pork, ribs, bacon burgers, pork belly, steak, sausages(probably more!) made by these guys and I do declare it is absolutely the best BBQ I’ve ever had! Can’t pick a favorite thing because it is all superb. Quality of the meat is top notch, preparation(marinades, sauces)=perfection. Also, you can just tell they love what they do which makes the experience so much more enjoyable. Just go get yourself some of their stuff and you’ll be hooked!

Smokin’ Oak Barbecue makes the best pulled pork I have ever had! Nobody else in Oakland is doing BBQ this good. «Pitboss» Jason and«Sauceboss» Joe set up outside The Legionnaire Saloon in Oakland on first Thursdays starting around 8pm and there’s usually a hungry crowd waiting by then. They serve pulled pork sandwiches piled high with pork, topped with crunchy tangy coleslaw and one of several different sauces.(The S.O.S. sauce is bomb, but I also love the mustard sauce.) Their motto is, «You’re gonna want a napkin.» After several first Thursdays eating BBQ at Legionnaire, I asked Smokin’ Oak to cater my Fourth of July party. They brought over smoked beef brisket, pulled pork, coleslaw, savory mac and cheese(so freaking good), cut veggies for grilling, and bread for 40 people. Everyone raved about how good it was, and the price was super reasonable.(Only $ 17 per person.) It was really nice to just sit back with a beer and eat delicious food without having to do any of the work. I will definitely call these guys again.
