This place has some of the best specialty sushi rolls! I love the Spicy 2&1, The Memphis and Tatami rolls!

I have been to this restaurant several times because of the prices and food quality. You simply cannot beat this as a great place. This week we took another couple for their first visit and they loved it.

The food is good, price is fair, and it is the only option for this area. First of all, the name is Shogun which is an absolute slap in the face to the great nation they’ve moved in to in order to receive citizenship, set up shop, and earn a wage from it’s natural born American citizens. Another slap in the face is the Mitsubishi cars and trucks driving up and down our highways. When they flew those Mitsubishis over Pearl Harbor, perhaps they didn’t realize what Americans are capable of. Japan is an imperial nation, always have been, and always will. To come here to my home town and name their business after their military warmongers is an insult to a country that has granted them rights they never had at home. Japan has invaded and occupied Korea and Manchuria, and Taiwan, Nanjing, The Philippines, and I don’t even know what all atrocities of war they have unleashed upon the planet, but with no other options, it took a special Boeing B-29 with American ingenuity from Oak Ridge to end it once and for all. I regret that caused so many casualties, but those should weigh on their consciences. They were offered the chance to step down. The Ministry of Education still continues to omit this and many other lessons from the past. I do regret FDR’s internment of American citizens for no reason other than being of Japanese descent. No American should ever be denied their freedoms ever again! By all accounts these camps were not as brutal or severe as what prisoners endured under Japanese detainment over the many centuries. Especially nothing like unit 731! Had this place simply chosen a different name for its establishment, this review might not have had the pseudo-history lesson. Ha ha. What if I were to move to Hiroshima, set up a sandwich shop called The Enola Gay, and bake sandwich bread in the shape of the Little Boy? Not very appropriate, that’s right. Not very cool either, and my business would probably not do well. The Japanese have given us some wonderful food though, and that’s why we’re here. And I love it. Here is my review for Shogun in Oakland Tennessee. The food here is actually quite good. This is the first time the wife and I have eaten here, but we’ve ordered takeout at least five times. We always find a little something extra in our bags and I’ve finally solved the mystery why. You do get a freebee for a $ 25 or $ 30 takeout order. Service: these guys are always friendly, patient, and willing to help. They are always accurate and quick. Very hard working people. Everything you see on my receipt was ordered at once so I suggested she write it down. She didn’t and I was impressed how she was able to memorize such a large order so perfectly! Menu: the menu is only one page Plus the lunch on the back. The menu has lots of choices, but not much in the description department. If you aren’t specifically skilled in the ethnic food, you have little chance figuring out what to order. The menu could use an overhaul. Multi page with pictures and descriptions. The sign out front also needs to be replaced. Sushi: not the very best in the region, but the only option around here. The sushi is good, but the menu is very lacking. Your basics are there, but not much else. Price: while this food generally costs more than other foods, they are right in line with the rest of their competition. There is a lunch menu that is easier on the pocket book. Sushi is expensive wherever you go. I drank Japanese beer for 3.50 a bottle. I think this is reasonable considering other places gouge as much as they can. Soda is $ 1.75 which is a great price these days. We spent nearly 60 plus tip, but had beer and sushi, and took a lot home. It ain’t cheap McDonald’s, but the quality does justify the price for me. I was at five stars till I finished my meal and went to the restroom. The old man who I assume cooked our food came out as I was going in and I went to the sink and found it to be completely dry! At least he’d already cooked our meal! I guarantee there was water all over that sink when I left. I might have gone down to three stars for this, but I have to average all my previous meals which were all five stars. I do not hold these particular people accountable for history, but their choice of name could have been more tasteful. The tip I left on the table was not meant to be an insult. Tipping in Japan is not nice.

This place is great. After having my baby I was really craving some asian cuisine. Shogun is the closest place to my home. We called and ordered several things off the menu. My husband went and picked it up. We had quite a few family members at our home and there was plenty for everyone and we had delicious leftovers the next day. I have gone a couple of times since then because I’m in love with their house fried rice. The staff is very friendly and very sweet to children. I will go again and again and again.

I must have come on a particularly good day, or maybe I was really in a good mood — or maybe I was craving Asian-style cuisine so much that it clouded my judgement. Either way, nearly all of my previous ratings stay the same with the exception of the food. The food quality was way, way down on subsequent visits. I strongly recommend travelling to Arlington and going to Panda China instead. New Scored: Food: 2⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Atmosphere: 3⁄5 Price: 3⁄5 Food: It just is not something I want to eat when compared to other restaurants in a reasonable distance. Though, in Oakland, this will probably be the best you will get. Price: Though the price is fair for what is ordered, the quality isn’t high enough anymore to support the cost. It is now just an average price, for decent food. Final Thoughts: As previously mentioned in this update, there is some pretty good food out at Panda China if you are looking for a quality take-out place. Good General Tso and egg rolls.

I had the four seasons dinner and beef lo mein as a takeout order. They gave me a free sweet and sour chicken with the order. The food was tasty and smelled great however the portions were much smaller than usual for chinese takeout. The pricing is on par with other chinese take out spots in the Memphis area. They also do not answer their phone, which is inconvenient when wanting to place a take out order. Overall my experience with Shoguns takeout was just average. Just normal run of the mill chinese take out. Nothing special, but good enough to pass the grade.

This place is probably not truly a 4 star but when contrasted with the other offerings in Oakland it almost ranks a 5. Think of the stereotypical Japanese Hibachi restaurant; You understand my friend. The atmosphere: Dark and smelling of steaming soy sauce, corny but amusing jokes made in halting english by the grilling«chef», etc.(I always wonder if the bad english skill is part of the act!) Those boat shaped spoons chasing chives floating in a clear based soup… iceberg lettuce and peanut ginger dressing. Menu consists of about 8 or so choices of steak, chicken, shrimp, lobster, etc. Shogun in Oakland is a little smaller than most restaurants of its kind. It is found in a strip center next to a Kroger, so not exactly the picture of a classy dining establishment. The atmosphere inside however, is far better than you might think and the staff provides courteous attention. A little overpriced for what it delivers, but all in all, Shogun delivers a pleasant experience with good food quality and better than average service.

We went to Shogun Japanese, steak, seafood, sushi and Chinese food restaurant. I ordered a dish described as tender chicken breast delicately sauteed with imported orange peels. What I got was overly breaded deep fried chicken nuggets swimming in a too sweet orange and honey sauce with imported orange peels
